Final Fantasy XIV: Linking Accounts Brings Perks

Square Enix has announced three perks for simultaneous play of both Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV. Players who link a PlayOnline ID with an active Final Fantasy XI Content ID to a Square Enix account with an active Final Fantasy XIV service account reduce the monthly subscription for FFXI to only $7.00 in addition to a few other bonuses.
In addition to the subscription reduction, linking accounts will yield a pair of Herme's shoes in FFXIV and players will be able to reserve their FFXIV character name for FFXIV.

Interesting, but still probably not enough incentive to hold both - kudos to them for implementing such a thing though (as most other companies wouldn't think of subscription cost reductions). Also shows they are either stubborn to keep FFXI alive or people still love it (I like the later idea).

I was still going to play both FFXI and FFXIV so this is great.
Getting a discount on FFXI and bonus items in FFXIV this is great.
I wonder what the other few bonus incentives mentioned are?

Good they are recognizing the veterans of the old game who join the new one. I still don't expect the older game to survive long once the new one is released.
Sounds pretty interesting but also sounds like the greatest time-sink of all time. Imagining how time consuming playing FFXI was, how long it took me to get 7 lvl 75s when I use to play while trying to do everything else. Now adding a newer, prettier, more adventurous sequal to the equasion would probably mean that I would have to write my family letters of endearment from my private game room letting them know I will be coming out someday.... not sure when, but someday.
Finally coming out to find my kids are going off to college and my wife is a rich nurse that don't recognize me anymore and treats me like a stranger..... No thanks lol. I will only be playing FFXIV and this time around I'm sticking to only playing on weekends and late nights when everyone at home is ASLEEP, therefore no time to pay attention to 2 mmo's. I already cancelled my WoW sub and am not giving in to my friends who are asking me to reactivate..... Trying to get them to come to FFXIV too
