FPS gain from changing settings

Gabby-airGabby-air Member UncommonPosts: 3,440

So I was having some performance problems with the game so turned off all the details to lowest, running the game on the least system intensive play possible at a 1152x864 resolution windowed and I barely noticed any difference at all in my performance. Is anyone else experiencing something like this? I also checked my cpu load which wasn't even going over 70% while my GPU was on max load most of the time.

There's either a huge bug with most GPUs, or SE is doing some hardcore testing this phase. Many people with high-end machines can only run the game on low standards right now, for some reason. I would watch your GPU temps very closely. If you get anywhere near the danger zones, back away from the game until they fix whatever is going on.

(I have the same issue as you. I can run the game on whatever quality, runs fine, but then I get random lag when I'm not even moving -- no matter what settings I have it on. GPU is going insane, too.)

Yeh, seems like a big majority of the people are affected with hardware bugs in this phase so guess I'll just wait till things are ironed out...although it would be wise for SE to atleast tell their players of such things so people who are frying their hardware atleast know what's going on.

I haven't run into those problems yet, but I just got into the Beta today. So far the game is running smooth at 1920x1200 with max settings aside from Ambient Occlusion (AO is generally a massive resource hog in most games) My GPU fan hasn't kicked up higher then 22 percent yet so I don't think the 5850's are experiencing the same issue.

    What are your specs?

Haven't had any issues. Runs perfect for me on all the settings, I've tried it on most settings.

Are people's cards actually being damaged?  I thought all modern cards (in the last 10 years) had automatic temperature monitoring and shutdown when it got too hot.  Seems like a no brainer to include that in a card.

I'm a little worried about this because atm it's summer and my room is very hot compared to the rest of the house and only my gpu (gts 250 512mb) can reach a temp on near 100 degrees and it's fucking hot! but I heard this card can resist high temperatures but getting such a high temperature is not good specially since I can't afford to get anything new cause I'm broke =/

(The high degree mostly happens when a game uses a decent amount of graphics say 60% or more else it's on 80-90 degrees and 60-70 degrees while not playing)

Cards generally only shut down when they reach the "omfg turn off now or explosion" levels of temp. Otherwise, constant high temperature that doesn't reach that auto-shutdown mark does damage the card a lot.

And I'm not sure if today's patch fixed the issue, or the giant fan I bought and now have directly pointed at my GPU, but my issues seem to have stopped. Going to test it out without the fan for a bit.

Only had graphics lag on the 14th, next day it was fine.

    Running it at 1900x1200.

Well if your worried about burning it I would say don't play until open beta or whenever they announce the problems are fixed, well that's what I would be doing anyways. I also saw a thread about FF14 running your CPU like a torture test, so yeh it seems it isn't just GPU's the game is having problems with but the entire hardware.

The rest of the parts (The amount of heat from gpu makes other part's temp rise maybe to 50-60 degrees) it's not much honestly but I knew that the GTS 250 had heating problems (maybe weak fan dunno) but it's a very good card at a reasonable price and now can't afford to get a better one.

My cpu is quad core 2.66 ghz it should more then enough :P

You can click my sig for PC specs.

One thing I've found is that there is some problem with the game handling AA set higher than 2X. In most games, the performance hit for each notch up is minor. In FFXIV, 4X AA brought the frame rate to an absolute crawl. 2X, with many of the other settings turned to high, runs smooth.

Depth of Field and OA both produce some performance hit, so I just leave them off, but nothing like the hit on AA.

For people having problems, turn AA way down in the Beta Version Config  and make sure you aren't forcing higher settings via your driver or tweaking software.
