While many of the defining mechanics of necromancers in the original Guild Wars have made a return, the profession has been completely reimagined and features some incredibly cool gameplay. For example, as you use the different skills slotted on your bar, you’ll begin building up a health resource which allows you to enter a wraith-like state. In this state you gain access to a new set of potent skills, such as a powerful AoE ability. This state only lasts as long as your health resource holds out, but the cool thing here is that you can exit the wraith form at any time and doing so will return you to your original location. It’s almost like a perfect marriage of necromancers and assassin’s Shadow Step abilities in the original GW, only you get to do all sorts of damage to your enemy while in this state before returning.

Pets are also back, and this time you’ll even have some in the mix that are persistent rather than having the limited lifespans of the original. The wraith state even comes complete with a temporary (and very powerful) pet that can be summoned and used so long as the wraith state is active. And if exploding corpses and making pet bombs is your thing, fear not, as those will also be staples of the class.

Now we'll just have to wait on some jawdroping skill vids :)

Necromancer MM was always my favorite with SS being a close follow up.  Glad to see the class make a return.

It seems unlikely now that we'll see the Mesmer, but that's just my own theory. The mesmer and necro played almost symmetrical roles, they just had slightly different ways of doing it. They could probably combine the mesmer's DOT and interrupting abilities into the necro.

I'd love to see the Ritualist return, or maybe just a variant of the class with similar gameplay (a jack of all trades), but it seems really unlikely. Probably the second least likely class to return, right in front of the paragon... nobody liked the paragon and it's role was substandard compared to other classes in both PvE and especially PvP.

Well I strongly disagree with you that the necro and mes were playing symetrical roles in GW1.  Certainly the curse line of the necro is similar in some respects, but Death and Blood were very different from anything the mes had to offer.

Anyways, on a more positive note, you will see Mesmer making a return.  There is a Mesmer character in the novel.  At this point we know the classes will be:

    Soldier:

    Warrior

Unknown (Speculation is mostly on Paladin/Knight/Hvy armor variant of Paragon)

    Adventurer:

    Ranger

    Assassin (Obvious in the picture)

    Unknown Gunner Class

    Scholar:

    Elementalist

    Necromancer

    Mesmer

    Steam: Neph

Necromancer is still not reveled on the official Guild Wars 2 site.  This despite Anet saying in one of the interviews that they would releavel the 4th profession before Gamescom. They actually told the press about it at the convention, not the potential players and not before.

Mesmer is mentioned in the Ghosts of Ascalon.
