Just a simple poll, if there are any games you feel were better feel free to pick other and discuss them. I wish I could add more to the list. There were a couple toss ups, between Golden-eye and "other MK game", as well as between Unreal and Quake.
This would be my partial list of contenders for top prize. As you can see there are titles from different systems as well as a few MMO's. Feel free to also call me out on any of my retarded choices.

DAoC gave me the most memorable times killing other players, and a true sense of pride towards my realm (something I havent felt towards a faction since). So it takes my vote!

Yeah for me it was a hard choice between DAOC and MK3, well as far as virtual goes it's a toss up between SWG and DAOC actually. The only reason I picked MK3 was because of playing it as a kid with RL friends, I don't think any gaming will ever top that, there were fist fights lol (teenagers, lol). I do know what you're saying though.

I really wouldn't put Quake or Battlefield in this poll.
Although you are competing against players, most people don't think of FPS games using the term PvP. I voted for Shadowbane, because it had such a great meta game and city building system.
However, my favorite game of all time is Quake World CTF.
Also, Eve and Guild Wars should be options, both have fantastic PvP.
My 2 cents
I agree 100%

Yeah I wanted to add eve, but it was based on my experience of playing games in general. I wanted to add a few non MMO's so it made the choices for MMO's a little limited, basically down to my favorite PVP MMOs (sinister laugh).

I think my most memorable all time PvP game would be Guilty Gear X instead of MK3. I just liked the system and the higher speed fights better.
MMO wise, I'd have to go with Planetside before any of the expansions. Raw planetside was the best and craziest fun I had in a shooter PvP game. Now a days I'm playing S4 League, which is also a fun shooter(except for the hackers <.<)
'Nuff said....
probably my new favorite person ever

I voted other for Face of Mankind.
Now I know people will totally disagree with me on that, and with every right to do so, but back during it's last open beta I PvPed for 16 hours straight during a territory war with the BoS faction and EuroCore vs the LED, FDC and CMG. Travelled between at least 5-6 planets and took part in some seriously tactical firefights during New Years - where the pigs figured it was prolly the best time to hit targets for planetary conquest (when most people were out partying). My best moments were in Necar's Field, which is the only real open planet surface that doesn't have chokepoints, where I switched between the fireline held up at the mouth of one of the few buildings on the surface, and it's roof where I was sniping people left and right. I earned my colors that day for sure, and had a total blast until fatigue settled in and I *had to* get some sleep. Mind you, it was still going on when I did sign off.
That really doesn't happen so much atm though, since most people stopped playing after the fresh feeling with the game faded after OB, and while the war is still going on between the cops and BoS, they are no longer allied with Eurocore and focus solely on their own territories - which creates a bit of a stagnated stalemate. They hit it up once in a while, but then are run off. No huge battles and military tactics like I remember from my OB experience, but it really was the best PvP I ever been in during those days, and in any game really.

Vanillia WoW - pre Battle grounds (cept AV)

You can't say that this is the best pvp game of all time... although it may be the most balanced. ^^
Planetside by a long, long way

Where is Guild Wars?
Not sure about the balance, depending on your country of origin I would say there are definate advatages to picking certain sides. My eyes (coming from the UK) are probaby more adept at tracking a left to right motion. Basically, right paddle needs a nerf.

DAoC.
Diablo lulz.

"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
DAOC had phenomenal PvP... i wish we could get 50k people back into that game.

The game was certainly hard core pvp but the greifers, you know the older brothers that would push you off your beanbag chair to win, ruined it for me.
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, riddle 'em with bullets
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
Ultima Online, Mortal Kombat 2, and Counterstrike imo.
gamertag - Swaffle House
Absolutely. +1.
Also note that this is probably the first PvP that didn't have worries over ping times.
I loved being the right bat. I do better on the right.
Asheron call 1 FTW
Nope. Just...pong times...
PvP is really only an MMO term so I don't know why Mortal Kombat and Quake are on this list. I guessssssss if you are just allowing any game where you fight/kill over players then I would say Counter-strike or Starcraft take the cake for being the biggest successes. My personal favorite is Unreal Tournament 2004 (Conquest mode ftw).
In terms of strictkly MMOs, I would have to go with WoW and it's arena scene for skill and Eve and it's space battles and map domination for scope.
