AoC is in the 150k to 1 million sheet and is estimated to have around 115k subs.

My guess is that its losing significant numbers of players on the us and uk pvp servers.

The other pvp servers seem to small to have a big influence.

The pve servers should be less hurt from subscriber attrition but overal see declining numbers as well.

Also i guess the overall europe playerbase is slightly bigger than the us one and more loyal.

AoC will go down to the pre-rotgs numbers again and below that when the new aaa mmorpgs are released in the not so far future.

So as of now AoC will stay for many years to come with slowly decreasing numbers.

I am curious to see what FC will do to change this and revitalize their game...

Maybe they take AoC as testbed for the mechanics and the engine they use also in "The Secret World" while it still generates an amount of income.

Maybe even for a new businessmodel that is not based on a traditional subscription but innovative and fair f2p like model. But if they do so i wonder how it will work out bcs in its current state its not a perfect nor even a good fit for the f2p model so it may fail badly if executed in a haste and driving the loyal leftovers of its playerbase away...

AoC needs a new game director, and a new lead developer for PvP, seriously how does Didek (lead PvP DEV) still have a job after his 2+ years of shotty work?

Very interesting link Blut, thanks for providing that. I see they gave their accuracy for AoC rated as a "B". So if their data are reliable, as seems to be. AoC should be sitting at 120k or so subs.  I doubt whether this small number is enough to be financing their latest project, as AoC was apparently (according to Funcom) going to bankroll TSW development.

Tough times all around for Funcom. But they have only themselves to blame. Even though their game director Craig Morrison likes to blame the players. It really has been a catalogue of disasters from day one. Unless of course you happen to be a pve'er.

Yes it's easy to sit back and criticise. But for the love of god, what game director with an ounce of savvy would have allowed the barrel of monkey abortions that was Bori be realeased as it was. The moron killed his own game. What idiot allowed tos passive aoe to crit upwards of 3k ? What tool allowed gem stacking to remain in game for so long ? The list of failures is long and very undistinguished, and I didn't even mention sieges once.

They are cheap, amateurish and unprofessional to the core. Craig Morrison (amongst others) has made an absolute James Hunt of the game. And if you understand cockney rhyming slang you know exactly what I mean.

I believe funcom has stated for AoC to be a viable MMO they need at least 200k players.

interesting,  one thing I noticed was that at the beginning of the year looked like he had AoC at around 75K jumping up above 100K at the middle of 2010 which I suppose was supposed to be the expansion. Seems to me judging by XFire, web stats, and forum posts the xpac boost has pretty much died off. I wonder how often he updates his numbers.

Yes they did say that in one of their quarterly reports. The game is dying a slow and agonising death. PvP is already dead anyway. It's not been a proper pvp game really since 1.04. I think only F2P can save them. But if Funcom do as Funcom usually does regarding AoC and fucks it up, then who knows where it will go from there. Maybe a large Asian market will come to the recscue. AoC really does need rescuing at the moment.

I was really taken aback hearing that Nastrandir quit AoC today. That's a MASSIVE blow on Fury server. RUS corp quit because of Bori, ultimately it was Bori that caused Nastrandir to quit. Who next ? - because there aren't that many remaining.

Merge EU and US servers perhaps ? - It's certainly possible.

Nastrandir were a core guild from a previous AoC incarnation who quit then came back after  Bori was introduced. They then recruited a load of top pvp'ers from various other guilds, and when RUScorp quit (because of Bori) they took over as the dominant siege force on Fury along with Futilez. So it's really a HUGE blow for Funcom, because it appears that Nastrandir members are quitting and not joining other guilds.

With RUScorp gone and Nastrandir gone nobody will convince me that AoC is in a healthy state. Certainly not regarding pvp. If Futilez quit (and they have walked away before - just as Nastrandir did in the past) it really will be time for the fat lady to sing on Fury.

This is the consequence of having a pve monkey running the show.

Lol. Wow, the passion and determination of anti AoC/FC people is truly impressive.

Well, as much as some here want with all their heart that AoC and Funcom will wither away, I guess we have to see.

by the way though thanks for that link , that method does work and last night I counted a little over 700 players on Silverlode between 7 and 8 pm eastern time. Not bad for a summer Tuesday night at that time of day.  I meant to do a recount around 10 to 11 but got sidetracked and when I got through with my group it was midnight and I logged and went to bed

See? I told you how easy it was to count them. And I have nothing against LotrO - certainly not as much as you seem to have a grudge for AoC, a game you merely played up till L26 - I was merely, truly disgusted by the ease with which you accused me of lying just because I'm on the other side of the fence.

But no hard feelings from my side anymore, it's past me, I know that's how it works, fallacies, flaming, ad hominems, it's all part of the internet forums game.

Personally I still prefer normal debates though  where posters - fan(boi)s, haters, trolls, whatever - aren't so entrenched in their opinion with that 'no quarters, no reaching out of hands' mentality.

As for LotrO, I foresee that it'll get a good population boost after the F2P hybrid model goes live maybe even to 3,000+ PCU again per server, I think that was a good decision from Turbine. AoC, hmmm, not so much, it'll be hard to hold on to the numbers it has right now with all the new MMO's upcoming.

For the rest, heh, I actually don't care, as long as I'm having fun in the MMO games I play. Something I wish for everyone they have, that they can find the MMO or interest that will suit them for that time however long or short it may last. Bitterness, disappointment and hate are always a bad way to say goodbye to anything, even a game or its community.

First of all I am amazed that you are such a jackdog fan, I can't remember the last time I posted my old HoX's level, the last two times I tried AoC I started new toons and now  I can't even rememer whether he was a 25, 26, or 27.

Secondly I have no grudge against AoC , what I do have is a grudge for what appears to be a astroturf marketing campaign.

Thirdly when you posted that you had compared a medium to high LoTRO server to a medium AoC server and I know there is no mechanism for determining a high/low/ medium server in LoTRO what eactly was I supposed to think? You have still never posted exactly how you or whoever determined which is the high/medium/low server n LoTRO. I suppose Brandywine would be the highest but after that I have no idea of which would be second, third etc. Also every server on AoC has been "stuck" on medium since a month or two after launch including just before and after merges so ddo you really think it is a honest gauge? Log on at 3 am on a Tuesday morning and it is medium, log on Saturday at 9pm EST and it is medium...hmmmmm

Got mines too Vep. I'm staggered almost to the point of nausea. What a bunch of lying bastards. Thousands of new players they say. Good god, the game is sinking, and subs are in freefall.

Don't miss out on this chance to secure your quality time in Hyboria with the thousands of new players that have joined the fray after the critically acclaimed expansion 'Rise of the Godslayer' released.

Couldn't help but reply to their bot. Pointless, but it felt good.....

Never EVER send me emails again. You bunch of thieving lying charlatans. Now piss off.

Ah, you mentioned it in one of these threads here not so long ago, after all your posts in this section I was so stunned with disbelief and found it so hilarious that it kinda stuck, it was like someone ranting and flaming continuously about WoW when they haven't even gone past L25 or about LotrO while they've never gone further than Bree.

When I think of American Teabaggers and their initial FOX News exposure, then I think of astroturf. With game companies, not so much, although I guess most (MMO) companies to a higher or lesser degree make use of this and other kinds of sneaky advertising, false hyping and spindoctoring. Something not to condone or approve for sure, I agree. Seems like you have your company singled out to rant against, well, that's where I disagree, but in the end it's your choice.

Yeah, the AoC gauge doesn't mean a thing, it has been stuck like that since the beginning, headcounts ingame is a far more reliable tool. About that other post, I just took what the poster stated for granted, he seemed to have done his homework, so that simple trivia about LotrO having a PCU of 1000-1200 for a medium populated server stuck with me (well, now it's 700-900 for a medium and 1000-1200 for a high population that sticks, pre-F2P hybrid model), kinda like your L26 tops in AoC, or other stuff that sticks like a recent (US?) survey pointing out that currently 30% of MMO gamers is playing WoW to a 8-9% DDO, or GW's Prophecies game worldmap, when measured with actual travel times and ingame measurement standards, would result in its worldsize being more than 3 times as big as the 2 continents of WoW vanilla put together and that GW2 thus as well would have at launch a 3-4 times as large and explorable a world as WoW had, and that when measured in RL distances all of WoW's Azeroth, the 2 main continents taken together would be the size of Manhattan.

    That sort of stuff.

Looking at the recent LotrO population figures, it isn't that difficult to determine though what amounts to a high population LotrO server, a medium population and a low population server.

When I think of astroturf I think of a game forum with 5 out of 10 threads all asking "has the game improverd" and all started by posters with less than 100 posts and the same replies by the same people cmore or less copy and pasted in each.

Come on. Be honest. Your antipathy towards AoC/FC reaches way farther back than some perceived astroturf. That 5 out of 10 thread is way, WAY overexaggerated, you only have to look at the AoC threads of this year, or compare it with some other MMO's. Besides, about the same replies by the same people: it's almost as constant as clockwork to see the same AoC/FC opponents come out of the woodwork every time again to nip anything positive in the bud, even I see it while only visiting these mmorpg.com forums for half a year; it has become a predictable dance, I mean, I don't mind and I'm having fun, but if you're talking about conspicuous trends then this is certainly one.

Oh, and before some of you start to allege that I'm part of the 'astroturf' thing too or on a FC payroll, in contrast to the most persistent anti FC/AoC posters here I visit and post in other gameforums here that I'm interested, and I also vary playing AoC with other MMO games.

Anyway, well, it's your thing, your mission if you believe FC is so 'evil' compared with other MMO companies. Gl and hf  image

just checked mmo data as well as xfire. As of last week rotgs has garnered AoC 170k+ active subs and its still growing. The servers are pretty much all well populated now. Not really sure where you get your info from really just looks like you personally didn't like rotgs and are just bashing the game for the heck of it.

I almost thought about re-subbing to AoC after the last update. But not a chance after hearing how FC plans to grant extra levels in exchange for multi-month subbing. I am a full-time college student and parent. I can't/won't/don't support devs who grant an advantage for gamers over other gamers by using RL money.
