AoC Siege PvP?

nerrollusnerrollus Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 214

Can someone give me a quick run down on how the large scale pvp works in AoC?

I'm looking for a new game that has some solid PVP. I'm a huge fan of large scale/siege type PvP. Heard AoC had a good system, and just wondering how it works.

If you've got some recommendations for good videos, those are appreciated too!

Thanks all

    Video:

Defend the city, or destroy it.

Some sieges tend to crash, especially on PvP servers for some unknown reason.

  • nerrollusnerrollus Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 214

Are sieges basically for 80's only? Or can lower levels get involved as well?

  • rozenblade1rozenblade1 Member CommonPosts: 501

Well, lower level players CAN get involved...but they generaly wont be a significant factor in the siege.

I played in a siege at level 45 and basically became the target of the opposing side (all 80's)

It's best to wait until 80 to siege

    PLAYING: NOTHING!!!
PLAYED:FFXI, LotRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, Megaten, Wurm, Rohan, Mabinogi, RoM

    WAITING FOR: Dust 514

What's the leveling curve like? You able to get to 80 pretty easy, or is it one of those games you have to grind like hell for months to get up there?

  • CrashrollCrashroll Member UncommonPosts: 60

I was in my first siege around level 35. Was bloody useless, but it was still fun to distract someone long enough for guildy to come and take him/her out. And most of the players were honorable enough to spare me when I was just buffing others, what little I could. Still a fun experience, and it was chaotic. That was actually the only game where I REALLY enjoyed pvp. I always choose the pvp-servers and even better if it's free for all, although I almost never attack anyone. I just like the tension you get from it, and it pulls people together much more. Also great for roleplaying, it's fun to just stand up and take a swing at someone whose face isn't to your liking.

Not tonight dear...I have a haddock!

How are the sieges doing, did they sort out the gliches? Also the time based window, are they still using that?

Its pretty friendly, of course depending on your playtime, but 80 is not that big job for a MMO gamer. Its somewhere along WOW 1-60 Pre TBC.

Its nothing alike (Korean) Lineage games, altough the last 10 lvls can be a little long for some, but its still doable.

Age of Conan is mainly a PvE based game right now, PvP is screwed up and sieges are still glitchy and crashing, also sieges are a rarity as the game population doesn't support enough larger guilds to constantly fight over the BKs, if you are looking for a solid PvP game in it's current state AoC is not  your game.

AOC is not a good PVP game. Try darkfall instead.

Darkfall's down for undisclosed reasons for an indeterminate amount of time...

To the OP: Sieges are a lot of fun. However, there aren't sieges running continously (they are expensive as stuff gets destroyed), but you might be able to be in a few per week if you play quite a bit and join the right guild. In an evenly matched fight, in terms of amount and experience of players, it all comes down to who has the better tactics and coordination.  I've been in 10-12 of them over the last few months and never had a crash, though I know quite a few of them do crash. I'm generally not a PvP guy myself, but I do find sieges highly entertaining.

Ah, theyre probably doing the new patch then. Sieges are just more fun there. You can destroy someones actual city, not just a secondary battlekeep. Everyone you kill you can take their stuff. The seige mechanics are kind of lame, but its a bit more excitiing due to the potential of loss.

Darkfall EU is back up. There was a bug in some Third Party software that they where fixing. So the game wasn't even down 1/2 a day. They also credited all EU players with a extra free day.

The US servers haven't been down at all except for the normal morning maintance.

If your looking for PVP Darkfall is the better option out of the two.

I would agree also, go with Darkfall for PvP

I agree, Darkfall is the game to play for PvP.

Large scale PvP does not exit in AoC.

PvP is not open world, it happens in zones (everything is in a zone, and guild cities are located in multi-layered instances no one else than your guild members will ever see and they can't be attacked. Only the keeps in a special zone can be sieged).

The sieges can have max 2x48=96 players (48vs48). A guild can only have 48 of its players attacking or defending a keep together, so if your guild has more than 48 members they can't fight together.

As others have said above, I agree that Darkfall is the game you are describing above, but not AoC.

Darkfall has large scale PvP in an open world where hundreds of players can siege together. Everything is real in the world (cities, villages, player houses,...) and not located in an external instance or zones like in AoC.

Yeah....that's why Darkfall is such a huge success...:-p

I say it really depends on what risk the OP wants to take in a game.

If its all about fun & guild pride, and no risk of losing gear, mount(?) and money, then I say AoC is a nice option.

if its about as much risk as possible and alot of PvP, and almost no PvE, then for all sake, go Darkfall (if you dare)

Both games has there advantages and thir disadvantages. Its about choosing the option that fits OP the most.

I wouldnt touch Darkfall with a 30 feet pole. Simply because it is full loot PVP. 1st time someone would kill me and take all my stuff i would quit the game and never log on. Its like playing a singel player game without the possibility of saving along the way. If you die, go back to start.... Frustrating and masochistic imo.

    Not a game for me.

PVP in AoC is challenging and fun way to compete with others. (IMO) You get into a fight, someone wins and the looser is sent to the rez pad. No real consequeces, comparable to a FPS. You die and start over again at the rez pad. The best player gets a high ranking, the bad players get a low ranking. Thats it. Good clean competition.

Sieges in aoc are working only on a low populated pve servers, or generally those with low population. Whomever says they work great and as intended on non-dead pvp servers is a blatant lier.

In short - they are borked since forever, funcom doesn't know how to fix them, and they won't fix them in any near future (ps. type in google aoc siege crash, or do a search on official/testlive forums about the topic)

Thats because youre using themepark ideas to apply to a sandbox game. In Darkfall you dont run around with t10 raid year you took 2 years to get. You can get and wear great gear on day one for very little work and start pvping. If you die, getting back in the fight is pretty easy. People have a bag of gear they are willing to lose, and more bags of gear to re-equip quickly. And of course if you kill someone else, you can take their gear and wear it. You can even run around naked and contribute to a PVP fight. Ive done it.

Furthermore when you die, you dont go back to the start. You still have all your skills, which is the most important thing in the game. You still have your bank, you still have your guild and friends.

To be fair, the most enraging thing about Darkfall is the skill grind neccesary to become competitive. But the game is indeed a much higher risk gameplay than AOC. But also much higher rewards.

OP: if you have the time and money Darkfall may provide larger lpopulation fotr seige however, the way to the top is dependent upon ones ability to macro using bloodwalls/afk swim and  run. The action in AoC is more focused providing your have the right clan. Take the $1 run on DF and the freebee on AoC to confirm before you buy.

The general consensus seems to be that AoC mainly caters for the PvE-crowd.

I don't deny that the PvP-crowd is in need for some love, but still, AoC has given me some of my best PvP-moments in my MMO history.

If you get going on a PvP-server and find a good/active/large guild, you should get some nice siege-action.

Also please enjoy the four PvP mini maps the game has had to offer for the past two years. Make sure to take special notice of the pre-made pugs that dominate those said PvP Mini Games with thier level 10 PvP gear. Remember in AoC to get the best PvP gear all you need to do is find a guild that can mine some mats! (PvE Shrine of Bori Content)

Lets not forget the lopsided balance when it comes to classes, make sure to roll a Ranger so you can be OP and enjoy the latest FOTM.

I present for your entertainment a short video made by my sister (who incidentally unlike me is incapable of hate) showing some BRUTAL PVP IN SHRINES OF BORI.

The full loot is a thing that puts many players off DFO, but the thrill of going into PvP knowing you can loose your stuff give you a real risk vs reward situation AoC never will get close too. In AoC there is no risk of PvP'ing, there is no real reward either. Personally I take DFO's PVP over AoC any day.  Full loot sucks at times, but oh so rewarding it can be too :)
