I am still unsure, I just got my return email today, and I must admit that Owl bird thingy really has me tempted, seriously though the package for the return did seem pretty cool, It was like 7 items or something, If I wasn't neck deep into the wow guild im trying to build up I would take them up on it for sure.

Ill resub when they make their world seamless :P

I seriously hate loading screens in a MMO, i wanna be in a "world" not a game.

But thats just me ^^ AoC is a great game imo, but all those loading screens really pisses me off, ruins immerions sooo much.

When they get the "new engine upgrades" implemented and working smoothly and Khitai is actually playable for anyone who can run the old zones just fine, then I'll think about it.

I actually came back a few weeks ago (my sub is still running I think) but It's unplayable as red latency surges to 4880 every 5 seconds, re-cancelled immediately after giving it 2 days.

I voted "no", and as "no" I mean never again seeing as this will never improve. It's been there since launch for a huge number of people, got worse with every patch and even though they were acknowleging the problem early on and trying to fix it, they failed and aren't anymore. No reason to fix it anymore anyway, as the little remaining population obviously don't have the problem since they're playing, and people who had it/ have it undoubtebly quit.

A computer game that you literally cannot play properly, that's something lol.

    Voted 'No'.

My resons: AoC's definition of PvP does simply not appeal to me. (I like the sort of PvP where competition is on a level playing field. Gearbased games does not deliver in that department.)

    AoC "PvP" with:

    • Gearbased PvP == Time > skill == Not a level playing field.

    • Open world PvP without 1 vs. 1 balance focus == unbalanced gankers heaven == Basic game design failure == When the cannon fodder leaves, even the gankers get bored.

    • Doing PvE activities to gain massive PvP advantage == I would like a sample of what the designer(s) were smoking.

    • Having PvP'ers transferring to lowpop PvE servers to have easier access to gearbased PvP advantages... Sorry, just to sad to make fun of.

    • Minigames with a team of "plate wearing, baseball bat vielding" warriors, clubbing down a confused group of defenseless "cardboard armored and unarmed" randoms == simply not fun for either party, but hey... its "farming" or "grinding" PvP advantages for one side == Design failure.

AoC have improved a lot in the PvE area, but it is still marred by some of the things that annoyed me back from launch:

    • Archaic chat interface,

    • incredibly poor standard GUI,

    • shoddy and errorprone filecache/patching routines.

    • Community/lack of direction from GM's. When: "Turn global chat off  + Spend several mins 'ignore' marking people every gaming session" is "Standard advice" then that is a basic problem in my opinion.

The "offer" itself expands my list of reasons for saying 'No':

Anything that smells like "pay this small amount for a better chance to win" just plain stinks IMO.

The "Pay now - Become in instant veteran" line. (You will immediately receive Veteran Points for game time purchased now) is just, well... If you cant spot the sillyness here, then more power to you I guess :-D.

My  "NO" is not a big problem, neither to Funcom nor me - BUT: This kind of offers (IMO) just widens the gap between a potential new player and the remaining loyal subs.

Oh and in some weird way this offer sounded a lot like a company saying: "PLEEEEASE accept this generous offer to sign up for a lifetime sub" while forgetting to mention they go F2P in a few months. But ok, thats just me and it would never happen....  (oh wait... image)

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
    (repeat ad infinitum)

The packages look more like they would be good for existing subscribers rather than new or canceled subs, in my opinion. I don't think many people would be interested in buying blocks of time if they have never played before or already quit for one reason or another.

Looks like I'm not the only "NO" clicker... sad really.

Not a chance, not that this game was that terrible, but like I have stated in these forums with all the upcomming AAA titles comming out, one has to think that just 1 of them !!!!!!! please just one, will be fun :-p

  • mmoguy43mmoguy43 Member UncommonPosts: 2,770

I already beat the game, imo. I don't think I'd ever accept any come back campaign, ever. If I did want to check it out I'd want 3 days or more free activation. Generally if you quit a mmo its not going to be that easy to lure someone back IF they put down at least 45 bucks to do so.

  • wildtalentwildtalent Member UncommonPosts: 380

Funny enough I was unaware of a comeback campaign but I resubbed this week anyway.  But, then I remembered the problem I have with the game.  Don't get me wrong I love the action, the graphics are ok (i can only run at mid level or lower efficiently) and I love the world, but...I love alts.

In my opinion, the lack of multiple start zones hurts this game, or at least it does for me.  I think it would be better if you started in the nation of your character.  I mean how could would it be to start the game in Stygia?  I dunno, it's just a thought.

Also, if your only gonna have one start zone...why make your players stay nearly in the same spot for 20 levels?  Talk about tedium.  Again just my opinion.

Good opinions all, judging by the responses and the votes, Funcom is going to have a hard time attracting anyone back with this kind of package.

  • JohnsavantJohnsavant Member Posts: 106

How many come-back campaigns so far? Over 9000? No means "no", understand that, FC?

But then again, they're just damaging their own rep anyway. As soon as someone sees those good old gremlins (red latency bar) spiking up, I'm sure they'll see the true "colours" of AoC, if you catch my drift :D

Am I the only who thinks this proliferation of come-back campaigns in AoC is getting out of hand?

  • JackdogJackdog Member UncommonPosts: 6,321

This reeks of last ditch desperation, I have a feeling FC is in deep kim chee. XFire numbers are back to pre expansion levels so subs are probably pre expansion also.

    I miss DAoC

Not returning to AoC at all forever I think. My current account is sold, and no way I will be buying the game again and start from scratch.

  • VepgenusVepgenus Member Posts: 398

Funcom has to be pinning their future hopes on TSW now, there is no way AoC can be a flagship MMO. The revenue gained by the expac will be enough to keep Funcom chugging till the launch of TSW though most likely. When the next round of AAA MMO's release, GW2, SWTOR, Final Fantasy; I believe that AoC if not already will be F2P and there will be further server merges down to one PvE server and PvP server for NA, if they aren't merged before then.

  • AceundorAceundor Member Posts: 482

44 votes on a hostile forum like MMOPRG.com is hardly good enough to draw any conclusions. However I dont beleive in any surge of new subscriptions for AoC. That train has left the station. IMO AoC will chug along with about 100K  subs (+/- 20K) for a longer period of time  (some years)  just like AO did with about 30K players (+/- 10K) .

AoC is a good game with  plenty of fans and many of them will play for a long time while there will always be some influx of new players and re-subbers.  For Funcom its time to look forward and TSW is now the future while AoC is the past.

I don't see a lot of people coming back, only maybe to fill in the time till the new MMO's arrive. AoC is still a great game to enjoy for a while - well, if you don't have latency issues ofc, some have, some don't.

But most MMO gamers are usually looking forward to the new shiny on the horizon, not looking back.

And that's a pretty strong lineup of MMO's upcoming, the strongest I have seen since I entered the MMO genre 10 years ago.

I mean: FFXIV, Vindictus, SW:TOR, GW2, Rift, TERA, TSW, WoD, and some others, damn.

FFXIV gets already an early pickings with everyone who has fond memories of FFXI and people who're simply bored and willing to try out something new, but as soon as TOR and GW2 hit the scene, it'll shake the MMO market and then you have still the other MMO's incoming.

I'm fairly sure that as good as all current MMO's will face tough times, even a WoW despite CATA and a Chinese WotLK expansion. Will be interesting to see.

I will probably come back when they make AoC free to play.

    Still dont trust Funcom...

    and WAR = Led Zeppelin

I got that email Friday or Saturday and it reminded me that I needed to cancel my current sub before I got hit with another months charge so my answer is no.

Just recently resubbed and have to say that I am rather enjoying the game now, but I am not planning to play it seriously. Just spending few nights a week exploring Hyboria with few RL friends. The game provides solid experience for that.

I'll resub when A: Funcom stop lying like bastards or B: When Hell freezes over. Whichever happens first.

I don't recall Funcom actually lying. A lot of times they'll say a feature (that can still be cut) and people take it as a promise that must be kept. Funcom ran out of money on the production without going into real scary territory finanacially and I would say that they have done a great job in saving face with AoC.

    No.

Character levels were never an issue, but the AA & equipment grind in Rise of the Godslayer is the worst I've seen in any modern MMO. I mean, its like a week of grinding to get one item and if you are lucky a couple of points, raiding has a better return than the stupid faction system in Godslayer.

  • NephaeriusNephaerius Member UncommonPosts: 1,671

They have tried this before and I didn't come back then either.  They still haven't delievered on what they promised in the first place - a great pvp game.  In fact they appear to have moved in the exact opposite direction, loading up on PvE content while leaving pvp in the dust.
