Hey there guys, I would like some feedback from some of you hardcore PC gamers out there on my system.
Ok here are my specs and let me know if I left anything out I ran the benchmark tool for FFXIV and I get like 3990 close to 4k on 1280.720 res and only around 2400 something score on 1920.1080 res. I refuse to believe my system can't run that game on good high settings and still get good fps.
OS Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Video Card HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870 1 gig video card OCed

The benchmark is a little harsh, but you should be able to run at medium settings at high resolution just fine. That is a decent PC, but the 4870 is getting a little bit dated, to run on high you will probably need a 5870 or equivalent.
Posted this on gamefaqs, here's a copy and paste. Phenom II x4 945 @ 3.3ghz, crossfired 4870's with second card disabled, oc'd to 835/1000.
Ran a short half test just now. A little valley north of the bearded rock camp has a lot of sewer moles people grind for low levels, I was there leveling up my sword+shield.
Ingame I turned physics off, dust effects off, player shadows off and distanced drawing off. Logged out, went into the config, left it at 1920x1080 w/ resolution buffer but turned every setting there off as well. 0 AA, lowest texture quality/filtering and shadow detail. Never had AO or depth of field on.
I was running at nearly 60 capped framerate in that valley section, ranging from 55-60. Mostly 50+ on the short run back to bearded rock, was hovering right around 30 at the crystal with around 20 people there. Turned everything back to how I had it before, on/maxed other than AO or DoF, got nearly the same framerate around the crystal(around 25~ now) and up to 40 in the field and that same valley with the moles more like 35-40. Hoping crossfire does indeed work sometime, it might be even next week, as that should push me to 60 in the field. As for being around a lot of people, it's really up to SE and shutting off whatever stuff they have running in the background of beta.
Pretty easy to see my processor is limiting my framerate hard and considering I am only running one of these gpus right now, it's not an overall PC bottleneck.
It just feels very poorly optimized. I score the same as you on the benchmark with only 1 card working, like 3700 with both but while you can force the benchmark to work with crossfire you can not with the beta client. Atleast, not efficiently, as my game usually performs worse when I force it.
The 24 FPS only works in movies because they have motion blur. When you move to games your eye can pick up movement stuttering at at least 100 FPS, some people say they notice it at 120 FPS and over. Most games are playable at over 40 FPS, that is the generaly accepted minmum for games, below that they get quite choppy.
With twitch based games like COD it is good to have around 60 FPS to make the game easier to play. You can get away with lower FPS in MMO's due to their slower pace and lack of precise aiming.
I have an OCed 4870 1gig, paired with a Intel Core2 Quad 3.0 GHz processor, and 4 gigs of ram, I find myslef not worrying just yet. I've been able to run all the latest games max setting so far.
Yea thanks for all the feedback guys, I would just like to say I have my cpu oc to 3.7ghz everything is stable and whatnot, but one thing I noticed when I ran the yougamers, performance tool is my 4870 1gig oced version is literally right on the none oced gtx 460s ass performance wise,
I mean looking at the two green bars they use to display the performance of the hardware on there gameometer you can barely tell its ahead of my card lol.Thats the card they are recommending people should have for good performance so I guess I will just have to wait to test my system out in beta.
I don't really like benchmarks, cuz they usually biased towars either ati or nvidia.
Sounds like the 768mb version of the 460, which is a noticeably bit weaker than the 1gb.
I scored 355 on low benchmark and I have a really bad system, like a 3 year old 500 dollar PC and the beta is running ok at lowest graphics settings, so I'm certain you can run this game
I have the same processor, 4gb ram, and a Radeon HD 3870 and I run it at 1600 X 1200 with settings on high, sometimes get some lag in the city but normally its pretty smooth. A 4870 should be able to run it fine.
Well I am glad to see I am not the only one still using a 4870, but just incase I ordered a sapphire 1gig 5770 I did a little research on the card and it is a little better then the 4870 plus I will have D11 and won't need to upgrade for a long time since all I play is mmos mainly.
the one thing you can rest assured with with games like ff11 and 14 is the fact they come out on the playstation as well, while consoles are much easier to code for due to 100% exact matching hardware in each and every ps3 out there, the graphics horsepower of ff 14 will never climb above what its at upon release, they can patch for performance issues but theyll never require you to upgrade because there wont be any updates requireing more power to run the game! running it in the first place may be an issue for old pcs, or just some particular parts combos, but if you can run it youll always be able to run it at least.
I have a 4870 as well.. Not worried in the slightest about being able to play the game.
Should be perfectly fine.
Better power consumption, less heat, dx 11 and extra features, but no the card is weaker in performance than a 4870, slightly.
