All Points Bulletin: Some Realtime Worlds Employees Rehired

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Due to 'interest' from potential buyers, twenty three employees have been offered the opportunity to come back on board at Realtime Worlds, according to administrator Ken Pattullo. The employees approached by administrators are those who were working on the recently announced MyWorld project.

“As a smaller entity MyWorld is attracting considerable interest from potential buyers and 23 members of the team who had been working on the project clearly add value to it as a standalone business, hence the fact we have been able to offer a limited number of those jobs back.”

In addition, Pattullo confirmed that 53 positions have been retained at Realtime Worlds, with 157 made 'redundant' not including the 60 previously laid off.

“We want to offer reassurance to gamers that APB will not only continue as an online service but will be improved and supported 100 per cent during this restructuring,” he added.

The Realtime Worlds site doesn't have any updated information so we'll keep you posted as news is released.

I agree with lobo. Yes APB was a dissapointment, but it did try to do something different.

I think if the game had been made 5 years in the future it would have faired better. The system specs were just too high and the high speed internet needed made it very difficult to play even on a good system.

Still I think they did try very hard to make a great game, whatever went wrong development side is a shame.

so they rehire the people that are responsible for the game not succeeding in the first place?

    thats pretty effin retarded

  • eyeswideopeneyeswideopen Member Posts: 2,414

They rehired 23 people who worked on the MyWorld project, not APB. They rehired them because someone is looking at buying MYWorld and having the employees sweetens the deal.

They didn't rehire anyone let go from the APB team. These people rehired are not going to be working on APB.

And the money from the sale of MyWorld is going to be used by the Administrators in charge of RTW's bankruptcy to pay off creditor debts. It's called liquidation of assets. Anyone thinking this money will be spent on APB is kidding themselves. The Administrators are in control of every cent. RTW will not be getting a dime for MyWorld's sale unless there's money left over after the debts are paid ( including the fees for the Administrators ).

And if MyWorld doesn't sell for enough to cover those debts, APB will be next on the auction block.

Yeah, the developers are the ones who pushed the game out before it was ready.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Employes are not responsible for horrible buisness choices (like forcing subscription model on APB)

    Holy geeze... MMORPG.com...!!

Stop labeling "All Points Bulletin" on things that have NOTHING TO DO WITH ALL POINTS BULLETIN.

The 23 employees who were REHIRED were not apart of A.P.B. Jesus.... Why don't you guys have a section just for MMO-Developer News?! Seriously... EVOLVE.

I'm sure it exists an alliance against APB...

So many news about money and no one "omg this game pown all" (as what i say each day)

    from a happy APB player

Anyone who buys that game now and actually subs is stupid. Its going down like spellborn but without being free before shutdown

  • TerranahTerranah Member UncommonPosts: 3,575

If APB is fixed it is ready to make money today.  Any other projects are years out and could suck ass or not even see the light of day at all.

Why not fix what you started, build same rep as a serious gaming company first, then use that as leverage to attract investors.

Is it Blizzard behind all this? Can't any new game get good news? The servers are not empty, I do not crash, I'm having fun, It do look good even if I don't have super computer. I do not see much problems with it.

    So ffs stop this whine!

Agreed with Blinko. The game is really fun and has a lot to offer. After this latest upcoming patch it will be much better and more noob friendly.

Yes, it's Blizzards' fault RealTime Worlds is broke and currently under administration of a third party in order to liquidate its assets because the game they made obviously is only fun for an absurdly small amount of easily amused players.

Seems to me, you're the one whining.

This is the market at work: games that don't deliver go down, and sometimes take the companies that make them out, too.

Honestly, it is good that this happens. It might keep developers from continually releasing things too early.

And maybe gamers have started to not pay for "anything so long as it is new" anymore. We can only hope so...

As it stands right now, no it doesn't.  The game was a unique and interesting concept and attempt, but piss poor execution and service.  I also just looked up 'redundancy' in the dictionary and it referenced APB.

Hey, to each their own though.
