starcraft 2 campaign load time frustration

adam_noxadam_nox Member UncommonPosts: 2,148

I have a fairly decent rig.  I would list the specs, but as I'll explain here it's not really relevant.  My gf has a lesser computer (gts 8800 and 1gb ram).  She can play just fine btw.  Problem is on both of our computers the load times between campaign missions often is longer than two minutes.  No exagerration.  Google starcraft 2 load times.  Lots of people have this issue and all their hardware is good.  No one has a resolution other than get windows 7 ultimate, 4gb of ram, and a SSD.  LOLLERSKATES my friends.  None of those hardware upgrades are justified by anything graphics/sound-wise in SC2, and I find it to be a great game honestly.

However, it's frustrating because if you read enough search results on this, you see it's a real problem, happening to a lot of people, but apparently completely overlooked by most people who perhaps don't even play the campaign or perhaps their oversized rigs chew it up and spit it out.  I don't know, but so far I've come across no possible fixes for this.  I have no AV or anything else running, everything is defragged, other games run great.

One topic was interesting as someone surmised it had to do with internet verification, so I may try playing offline, but that seems unlikely.  If anyone has any idea why this is happening, let me know.  Please don't suggest I get a solid state drive though... because once something like that comes out of your virtual mouth, there's no putting it back in.

maybe try turning off some background procceses that are running that might be using system memory?

There's nothing.  I don't want to be one of those "i'm a pc tech" guys, but I am lol.  I'm obsessive over my machine's performance as well.

I'm trying hard to avoid a discussion on windows general troubleshooting or hardware, because I assure you, my papers are in order, and if there's a fix, it's got to be something specific to do with SC2.

I played it on an Alienware demo machine at Fry's Electronics. It was taking over 30 - 45 seconds to load each campaign. I can believe load times of over a minute easily.

i load sc2 missions in under 10 seconds, 3 ghz dual core 4 gigs ddr2 ram 2 8800 gtx 512s in sli 700 gigs between 2 7200 rpm hard drives, vista 64 bit, laptop.  run sc2 on max and only experience any form of slow down when having a 200 unit cap army fight another 200 unit cap army, ild like to see you do that and not get a little laggy hehe, wish i could fit more ram in my laptop but the mb wouldnt recognize it sight.

if the long load times are a common problem then it seems to me that the real solution is, either do not play or accept the long load times and use that time to do something else. Allowing something as trivial as game load times to be a source of frustration in your life dosnt bode well for the overall quality of life in your future, but good luck on finding a solution, btw I have a 3 yr old GF8600 and 2.5 Gigs of ram and my load times are around 30 sec of so.

I can't even allow myself to play the campaign because I can't stand the Terran race. I don't really like Protoss either. I love the hell out of my zerglings though so UP YOURS CAMPAIGN!
