Looks like the patch is getting pushed out when people log off.

What patch?  I haven't resubscribed yet.  I thought the expansion wasn't due out until next week.  If they are releasing it as an open beta, I would like that.  Detailed information about the new powersets would help me do some number-crunching to decide if I want to make a new character (and resubscribe) or not.

Depending on how long you've been gone, you may have missed what they call "Powerset Proliferation". It means sets that were originally just for heroes or just for villains were offered to comparable characters on the other side.

So for example, you sad a Tanker with a Villain Melee set. Electrical Melee was originally just for Brutes, but now Tankers can have it too. And so can Scrappers. And Stalkers. Likewise Earth control used to be just for Controllers and it went to Dominators. The only cases this hasn't happened is where they feel it would be a bad fit. Like Masterminds don't get Kinetics because the combo would be too overpowered.

But that has been true for a while. You could do it right now before i19 hits.

Pre-download, it starts after logging out of the game. They do that so the servers won't be swamped when it's actually released. You can't do anything with it yet, you're just pre-downloading.

They have just lifted the NDA on GR, I still can't access the beta forums, but people are now free to talk about their beta experience, if they liked it or not. We should see more and more info coming.

The incarnate slots looked really powerful, even if it did not come with any new content, I'm a bit surprised they pulled it off from GR release. The new zones look really nice, unfortunately it seems confirmed that most of it is for lvl 1-20.

I have another question about Going Rogue.

Suppose I make a Hero and switch my alignment to Vigilante (halfway villain).  Can I use the ancillary powers granted by heroes?  What if I go full villain?  Do I still get to keep the hero versions of ancillary powers?

I played a Dark Melee / Stone Armor Brute primarily.  It was fun being able to tank just about anything, do decent damage, hold aggro with AoEs, and not have to worry about endurance or health.  The only problem I had was the "tank just about anything" part.  There were a few situations where I wished I was a tanker so I really could tank anything.  I'm looking at the kinetic melee set and it looks like it might help boost the Tanker's DPS from pathetic levels to something a respectable Defender could do.  Maybe I'm stretching that comparison a bit, but the Tanker survivability is what I really want.

You have the option of keeping your ancillary powers OR picking up an appropriate Patron pool. So pure improvement, nothing lost.

    Original details released:

The Alpha Incarnate Slot can now be accessed and Incarnate Abilities created to place in those slots. As part of Going Rogue, the Common and Uncommon Alpha Slot abilities are accessible.
Incarnate Abilities are created using Incarnate Components, which are a new variety of special Salvage which cannot be traded but does not take up Invention Salvage inventory. Higher level Incarnate abilities not only require Components, but also lesser Incarnate Abilities to fuel their creation. There are no “recipes” to be gathered for Incarnate Abilities, they are all accessible from the Incarnate creation window.
The Alpha Incarnate Slot can be unlocked by any level 50 character with the Going Rogue expansion as a reward available from the following activities / vendors:
Statesman Task Force / Lord Recluse Strike Force
    Imperious Task Force
    Lady Grey Task Force
Dr. Kahn Task Force / Barracuda Strike Force
    Cathedral of Pain
    Hamidon
    Vanguard Merit Vendor
    Reward Merit Vendor
Alpha Incarnate Components can be earned from the above activities, with the exception of the Reward Merit Vendor, but only after the Alpha Slot is unlocked.
In addition, Alpha Incarnate Subcomponents infrequently drop off of player defeats in PVP and almost all level 50+ foes.
The Incarnate creation system includes conversions that allow you to turn Subcomponents into regular Components, as well as improve your existing Components into higher quality Components.
Incarnate Abilities can be equipped and unequipped or swapped at any time from the Incarnate UI. There is a short cooldown on swaps, and you cannot swap out an Incarnate Ability that is still recharging.

Here's what Positron has said regarding pulling it:

I know it’s been common knowledge for a while that the initial phase of the Incarnate system would be available in City of Heroes: Going Rogue. As you know, I’ve been spearheading the “End-Game” system for City of Heroes, to give players a lot of what they’ve been asking for: more powers, greater customization, more epic battles, and most of all, more content to do with their Level 50’s.

That last point was something that we got great feedback on in the GR Closed Beta. Even though it was just a sneak peak, the Alpha Slot doesn’t benefit the player in a way that we had envisioned it would. Because of this feedback we have decided to act sooner rather than later.

Since Alpha Slot Incarnate Abilities do not exemplar down (and we're not changing that), we find that players end up with Power that has limited use. We recognize that the Alpha Slot experience is something that a lot of you are eagerly awaiting for and we want to make sure that it is awesome, and most of all fun, when we bring the system on-line.

We still want to do an “Alpha Slot Sneak Peek”, but we want it to happen once more of the system and content are closer to being ready for prime time.

We want to thank everyone who tested and gave their feedback on the Alpha Slot, the drop rates, the costs, and especially how they see the Abilities interacting with their builds, math-wise. Your testing has been invaluable and we have learned a great deal in a short time thanks to you. We now feel that the Alpha Slot and Incarnate Abilities will have a much higher impact when they are ready to be rolled out.

We hope this helps you to understand why we’ve come to this decision and appreciate your patience while we continue making the Alpha Slot and the rest of the Incarnate System the best that it can be.

We were actually very happy with the beta test of the Alpha slot, as well as acquiring the powers for it. What we DO want you to have is something to do with it! Since Incarnate stuff doesn't exemplar down (by design), we needed to make sure that getting the Alpha slot and abilities wasn't considered "useless".

Oh, and I will take this opportunity to clear up some confusion. There are currently 10 slots for the Incarnate system. These will likely not all be in one single issue, but doled out over several.

And for those who were not in beta: one of the last things we did before the slot was pulled was give you a third build upon unlocking the Alpha slot, so if you wanted an "End-Game Incarnate" build separate from your "exemplaring" build and your "soloing" build, you will have access to it.

Never having played with it myself I have no opinion to offer, I'm just passing on what was said.

Sounds great.  Tankers have access to a nice patron power:  Physical Perfection.  I didn't like any of the patron powers available to my Brute and I thought Physical Perfection would be nice for the extra endurance recovery.

any news about additional char slots with gr?

i only play on virtue (since release) and i'm a altoholic so all my slots are full.

i have preordered gr since april anyway ... :)

    edit:

second question: there is no chance to visit preatoria with a existing char of any level ?

i dont care about xp or missions just to hang out there

I believe you get 2 free characters slots with it. Of course that's free instead of paying $10 for the 2, not new slots beyond the 48 the game can handle. If you purchased and filled all 48 already... (Not sure how much of an altoholic you are.)

For the second question, there will be a portal added to Pocket D that goes to Praetoria, but I think it only lets current Praetorians (that is, under-20 haven't-picked-a-side-yet new characters) through. It wouldn't surprise me if they plan to open it up eventually, but nothing concrete that I know of yet.

I do kind-of expect that the new 50+ content for i19 will tie into Praetoria somehow. I know Positron was planning it for i18, and then ended up pushing it back because it wasn't quite ready. So odds are that eventually we'll be able to explore Praetoria with our high-levels. Just not at first.

    gr is live now

i did not received any additional char slots with gr. so i just deleted on of my low lvl chars, but i'm not able to create a new char ....

it looks like something is messed up if u have more than the usual char slots  (12 i think) on a server.

made a support ticket & i hope they will fix this soon.

see you soon in Praetoria ...

Edit: if you have the same problem check this thread out:

It is never too late to play City of Heroes.  The game may as well be called City of Alts because that is what most people do when they get bored at 50.  The game is definitely fun at 50, but lacks an endgame similar to other MMOs.  With all the alts being created, there are plenty of people to group and level with.

Actually, most people don't seem to roll alts because they're bored at 50 -- they're rolling alts way ahead of that because there's alot more ways to play.

More than the various ways of leveling, the main incentive to roll alts is trying different archtype/powersets on the same content.

Nice post op I'm a former COH player and while I understood the expansion was a way to "expand" on aligment choices and blur the lins some between hero and villain I had no clue how they planned to impliment this and it was nice to see.  I've been kind of excited lately for DCUO but might consider giving COH a spin until then this sounds like it could be fun.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
