I mean, compared to Shadowbane and AC:Darktide... I dont want to hear from anyone who plays carebear pvp games such as DAoC, WoW, and the like. Thanks.
if you think that daoc's pvp system is bad then you really have no idea what the difference between pking and pvping is..
I will give you some examples:
PK Games (This means in the games listed below there are rarely ever any even matched fights)
Shadowbane (I shadowbane..its just more of a PK game then a PvP game)
AC:DT (game was great, outdated but still it was great)
MxO (Ive been playing it alot lately..this game defines PK, with the hardline camping to the massive out numbering the factions within the game have..zion has on most servers 50% of the playerbase, while merov has 40% and machinist has 10%)
Lineage 2 (good game but its PK..duh..)
NOW! on to the PvP games. (these games are mostly based on the skill of the players and how they play together)
DAoC (one of the best pvp systems ever..barely any bugs and one of the best replay values to date..even though I got bored and quit about a year ago)
Guild Wars (best pvp game ever, bar none, if your good you win if you suck you lose..enough said)
WW2Online (even though the game is a bit dated the teamplay ROCKS and I LOVE the pvp in this game!)
As far as world of warcraft goes we will have to wait and see, even though I HATE world of warcraft the current pvp system is basiclly a pk system aswell..but like I said we will have to wait to see what BG brings.
Its pking in hostile servers. but then there are also constructs. they stop the pking a bit, by making level restrictions (15-25) (20-30) (25-35) and so on. but on hostile servers pking is crazy. and i play as a machinist, so i switched to linenoise to prevent myself from getting pked over and over.
This game is going to be different than the rest of the games, cuz there won't be no hack&slash... and this might be a cool experience for us. And it might also get D&DO the title of the best PvP MMMRPG.

But it's possible, PvP was in Neverwinter Nights, but I think it was by modifying.
Dungeons and Dragons will not have PvP at release. and after that pvp status is still not being looked into by the devs ======= DDO is all about teamwork just like the pen and paper game, there is no place for PvP in DDO
MXO PVP is heavily skewed towards hackers. It's horrible at the high end. Hackers have full control of the battlefield. In terms of trying to one vs one a hacker this is the typical scenario. Bum rush his Evade Combat, it breaks, great, not really, he just code freezed you, so youre stuck there then he just unloads his entire lovely hotbar of specials until you die. Wash rinse repeat.
I love this game -- but PVP was ruined by the implementation of hackers, which was only implemented to fill a 'combat role' of traditional mmorpgs which = nuking / debuffing / buffing. None of that crap was in the movies, and I hate that it's in the game.
If your PVP is amongst free fire and interlock based opponents, it's great, barring you don't get interlocked by 4+ people and the battle turns into a gangbang. If you've got hackers in the mix, unless you get rid of them quick it just ruins the whole thing. Theres no competitive factor with an I Win button.

There you have it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually, I have to disagree that hacker layout = I WIN. Generally, absolute hacker devotion usually means that the hacker = low health, not to mention crap combat tactics. If your dying to a hacker from the scenario above, then perhaps you should make sure your capping out your virus resistance. I know only +1% per level being the cap for this may not seem enough, then you have to realize that hackers melee and ranged resistance is under the same restrictions. If you don't have any ranged abilities whatsoever, then I suggest you make damn sure your resistance to ranged, whether guns or viruses is capped. It won't mean your fixed for every battle, but you should still survive if not win 5 out of 10 encounters. If anything, I would have said Martial Arts Intiates and up were overpowered, since once your interlocked, you better be an MAI yourself or forget it. I'm a hacker and even with evade combat, guassian blur and another evade combat skill, I still find MAI's quite capable of taking me down. For one, MAI's usually have a crapload of health and do a hell of a lot more damage then I ever would nuking. Then again, I think it's all still player skill and you need to adjust your layout per situation. However, who has the luxury of using the Hardline to do that when your on a PvP server.
Youre talking low level. I'm level 43 and at the upper levels its no longerl ike this. I can have 10000 HP it doesnt matter , you get LOCKED DOWN and destroyed. To try and use an ability thats been disabled to you, to try and free fire, none of it is possible. You say make sure your resistances are set up correctly. That would be nice if the game could be set up that way without resulting in buff-whoring. Buffs (through clothes) should be a supplement not mandatory to survival. I am a Spy and I take on Martial Artists in interlock, there are ways. Hackers cannot be breached to be attacked 1v1. You are destroyed and if they decide to help determine your fate in a group conflict, you're doomed.
I know what im talking about. I'm also being crapshot by Hackers of many levels below me. Like late 20's to mid 30's. This isn't news. In beta hackers had the easiest job of surviving in PVE and hearing of hackers at level 30 soloing groups of lvl 50 mobs and XPing quick was not an uncommon occurance. It's only natural this power translates into the PVP spectrum as well. They are severely unbalanced. As a Spy -- evade combat completely nullifies my entire discipline regardless of who is using it. A single level 1, 1 memory ability, nullfies an entire discipline. Spies are based on initiative, I lose my initiative breakin the hackers shield, if he has friends they will jump me right away, if he doesnt, hes got me locked down anyways. And when get free he'll usually have the shield back up before I can re-stealth and attack him again.
Hackers just ruin the competitive feel of PVP and have become the veritable "rocket launchers" of MXO. As rocket launchers in FPS games, they have the same effect here.
Wow. 43? but, wouldnt hackers get outrolled by someone thats 5 levels higher? they dont get insta 5000 numbers on thier skills like spies do. so i mean, in beta, i would be a hacker and i would lose almost 70% of the rolls vs other people my level. did they somehow change this?
yea, i saw what you were talking about. a 25 went up against a 31 kung fu guy, and the 25 hacker won. it was really gay looking. he just sat there and used some cannon skill that took out huge chunks of his hp every time it was used, and it hit him almost every time.
Originally posted by Wharg0ul it takes some tactics. I was destroying hackers left and right last night in the Battle Of Mara, using a combination of kung-fu and smg.
Thats because everyone was lagged and it was chaos. Try 1v1 or in small group vs group.
I'm also a duelist. And actually, for myself, it wasn't that laggy...but I turned down some stuff specifically because I suspected it would be a stress area.
I think that might have save me a couple of times, since I was able to reacti quickly when I landed on teh church roof and got swarmed by Collective.
I cant decide on the hackers. today i was sitting down just chilling at mara with pvp enabled becuase a fake agent walked past me. (I SWEAR!) and a hacker tried shooting at me, a level 20 hacker, me a level 14 MA outrolled his free fire hacker ability.

Hackers dont shine until the higher levels. Theyre useless at lower levels.
I have to agree with the post saying hacker rule pve and pvp at higher levels. My group of friends are all 45+ and with tons of cash and we tried different combos to see what the best pvp loadout was. The hacker owned all other skill loadouts. Most battles the hacker did not take any damage. There is no real pvp in this game. Either your a hacker or your dead. There has to be some serious balancing or eventually every one will take the hacker skills just to be competitive.
jsut swarm hackers with 3 MAs, and gunmen attacking from a distance. They die.
It's a common tactic for The Collective to have their hackers stand on a roof-top while their operatives fight in the street below. It takes us a while, but we are uaually able to kill all of teh hackers, and level teh playing field.
Hackers have weaknesses, you just need to exploit them, It takes team-work, and a plan.

Why should hackers be any more harder to kill than any other discipline? Y ou say HOW you can do it but why should it take that much work? Why doesnt it take that much work to down a skilled Martial Artist?
That's the real issue here. Especially if you want to talk traditional systems. The Mage is always weak when he's drawn into melee. Here its not even possible most of the time to get him into melee, unless, as you said, you zerg the bastard. You dont have to zerg a spy or a martial artist, no reason you should have to do this to a hacker. Everything should have its weakness, but its weakness should not require multiple players.
Theres no real point arguing vs Hackers, this is a dead horse. Not on these boards but in the MXO community. It's been this way for over 6 months. When the first PVP dev event happened in beta we fought the GMs, the hackers just destroyed them. No one even got a hit on the hacker players. Anyone remember how Darbacour ripped Thoth a new one? If you don't she gloats pretty well about it in the FANZINE -- read it yourself.
She utterly /destroyed/ him. This was after he beat every other player (2nd gm fight)
There are a myriad of imbalances with the discipline, and like jedi it seems like the only solution would have been to get rid of them. But thats not going to happen. I'm hoping they give them a 'balance pass' down the line.
Heres some food for thought:
If it takes 3 MA's and 2 gunman to down 1 hacker, what happens when similar teams happen in the enemy court? How about 2hackers? How bout 5? You can see where THAT goes. Hackers teamed up together is just pure rape. Theres absolutely /0/ you can do about it. And I've been on the receiving end of mult hackers (I've taken on 3 at once, its not fun)
If you all trust me to be a fanboy -- trust me that I know what im talking about in this regard :P They're highly unbalanced and it ruins the PVP game a lot.

It's rather good.
But oops, this comes from a current WoW player who you not want to hear from. Close your eyes or whatever.
And what about D&D Online?
This game is going to be different than the rest of the games, cuz there won't be no hack&slash... and this might be a cool experience for us. And it might also get D&DO the title of the best PvP MMMRPG.

There are no rolls hes not interlocking me. They do it in free fire.
It's based upon Viral Transmission and possibly Ranged Combat Tactics, there are rolls but they arent 'interlock' rolls.

yeah, I guess you've got a point there. Teams should have to protect their casters, not the otehr way around.
