It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
Yes. the game really does cost you $3.50 a month, unless you love running around doing half damage (incense really is a must unless you are a true masochist).
whats the easiest way to bypass that? simple! When you go to your account page and click "fill up potatoes" to purchase in game credit, there is a list of payment options. in the middle of the payment options there are three things listed - peanut labs, super rewards, and sometrics (I think i got that right, their websites seem to be down). If you click on those, it brings up a huge pile of garbage surveys that require you to wade through multiple pages of "FREE IPOD!" type "giveaway" stuff.
Make sure you grab them from the "free" section, and always double check to see what it requires you to do to earn the points. Avoid the ones that require subscription or explicitly say "false info will get you banned." It will say on the blurb next to how much it will credit you for performing the task.
One can easily generate 40-200 gpotatoes in about 15 minutes - without the use of any scripting - with a faked email address (make one on hotmail) and a fake set of identification. I personally like using the phone number of a robotcaller that calls me daily about my septic system I don't have, and i send the free goodies i get (haha) to a strip club and a baptist church in that caller's area code. On every offer page, there is a SKIP or NO THANKS either at the bottom or sometimes in the top right of the page. When you get to a big list of things where it wants you to click "yes or no" and you MUST click yes on one thing, you do not really need to click NO anywhere. Just the YES for one thing. I use ITT for my YES since they never change where the SKIP button is for those ads. Note that you never need to enter in a cell phone number or any other info on any page past the first page - there is always a "skip" or "no thanks" option SOMEWHERE on the page.
With some cleverness and familiarity with the system, you can easily rack up the 350 points needed for your monthly allotment of incense (IE the hidden sub fee) via these stupid surveys. It will take you about 30 minutes to one hour to get all 350 (average of 110 points per survey, which is low, and 10 minutes per survey - wish i knew scripting) and it lasts you 21 days.
There is also a way to gain legitimate credit, really with amazon and not gpotato, with something called "mechanical turk" via amazon. It sounded like a strange westworld denizen to me, but it really is a way to earn a couple cents for performing some short, random and sometimes strange task for people. (One was a company asking people to identify biological markers out of a technical paragraph). Since you can use amazon marketplace money to buy potatoes, you could in theory legitimately earn your credits. If I wanted to be an honest person, because I felt like it was an honest company, I would do these - theyre honestly rather fun and some are puzzle-like. But... I'd rather stick it to the man.
I am doing it as a big F U to gpotato for having no spine and letting a developer walk all over them - because they think they can walk all over us. Sure, the easiest way to not spend any money on the game is to not play it. But it isn't a terrible game, and I rather enjoy dicking over the publisher for being idiots and scamming spammers AND spamming a telemarketer all at the same time. Until Guild Wars 2 comes out that is, in which case I'll drop this like a hot turd!

What about just to ignore the whole bullshit and to find a cheaper and better mmorpg?
