General: Jagged Alliance Making a Comeback

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Gamigo and bitComposer have announced that development has started on a tactical browser-based MMO called Jagged Alliance Online. Developers have indicated that the new online version will keep many of the features of the original game including tactics, strategy, role-play and management. The game will feature turn-based battles and real time action as well.

The player takes control of a group of soldiers, commanding them from an isometric perspective to complete tasks in order to earn cash as well as renown. If a player wants to stay on top, mercenaries will need to be trained and equipped with better weapons. If that's not quite enough, then mercenaries can be borrowed from friends or alliances can be formed with other players.

A new Jagged Alliance Online site is now up where you can sign up for beta testing.

I still keep big carton retail JA2 box somewhere along with original CDs. Loved that game, really.

Looking forward for online version. :)

    Sorry for my eanglish.

This is just sad. After over a decade of being chewed and spit out by several subpar developers, we get this? Why couldn't Sir-Tech form a new studio and revive this classic of a series? Instead we get this half assed crap.

I agree. Why in God's name butcher the JA franchise when most of your players won't even know what it's all about? Should've either revived it with a proper sequel or leave it to rest in peace.

    I'd rather a Wizardry MMO.  :(

From my point of view, I want to have a tremendous offline JA too. The speciality about JA always were the mercs. With their character and comments (i.e. when Fidel refused to do anything).

Please don't let JA end with a browser game!

It's quite simple. Dollar signs. The new breed of developers today would sell out their own mothers if they thought they could get a subscription fee every month, regardless if their mother was entertaining or not.

Yup, I thought news about a new Jagged Alliance game would be good. Unfortunately it's about a browser based online game with Jagged Alliance on the name.

Y'all can figure out where my forum name came from. I intended it to be my login name and my forum name was going to be GusTarball. Then again I'm not as agreeable as either of them are.

IF they replicate similar game play it may not be as miserable as it most browser games are. But I'm not convinced.

Edit: Attempting to register at their site using different versions of the U.S.A.'s name in the country text box, that can only be typed in, causes the registration to fail. Not a good beginning for me.

Edit 2: Using the one word, America worked though.

Indeed JA and JA2 were totally awesome ... and it's a pity that there were no proper sequels :/

Sad that JA is going to browser.

I thought there was a JA3 PC game in the works as well... I have no idea if is continuing or not or was canceled somewhere along the way....

    come on guys!

Who told you browser games can't be good??

You all are saying JA and JA2 were great.. and what made them great was the gameplay, not graphics.

Complaining about JAO being browser game means you expect full 3D art and other shit that sells crap games today.

The original Jagged Alliance gameplay can be replicated fully in today's browsers, so please stop complaining and start cheering: we'll get Jagged Alliance Online.. multiplayer.. what else can you ask for?!
