It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
Look at your desktop.
See that right mouse button, press it somewhere.
Its time to PERSONALIZE! Aww yeah!
What now?
You see the section titled "Aero Themes"? Well we hate them.
Instead, scroll down to Basic and High Contrast Themes.
Pick one, tahdah, your videocard is done rendering tacky see-through title bars.
Its that easy.
As an added bonus, I will reveal how to suddenly make the game playable on an 8800GT or similar video card.
Inside the game, find the magical button "Extended Drawing"
Turn that off. Your skippy terrible gameplay is suddenly beautiful and smooth!
Next week I reveal the secret to time travel!

EDIT 100th post FTW
Thumbs up! I'll remember this at release if I have any framerate problems.
Would you like to provide a link to a test that shows that disabling Aero actually increases performance during games?
It does if you have a low supply of RAM. However, if you have an issue with aero in games, your PC won't be able to run XIV at any extent.
Going to msconfig and disabling unneeded services can also speed up performance, especially a lot of the network services that are enabled by default that are rarely used.
Run the benchmark yourself with Aero on, then turn it off and run it again. More points.
My points didn't increase at all with it off. Actually went up by 4 with Aero on.
Good to know then. I can't say it worked like that for win 7, but I saw a large increase when I turned Aero off in Vista.
I do a lot of benchmarking for windows and hardware and some stuff definitely gives higher scores with Aero off.
For potential OB folks - Turn off Ambient Occlusion in the FFXIV Config. (it is turned off by default..with good reason)
You know you don't have to turn Aero off right? Just click the compatibility tab and disable visual themes and desktop composition right? Does the same thing when your running a specific program. A few other nifty things you could do to speedup performance but those are really lame and a pain, like turn of explore.exe.

Let the program end them for you when you start gaming and the restore them after...for FREE!
(I've used this program for about a year now, works like a charm, can also quick defrag a game directory)
No, don't, if you tell us how to time travel, some idiot will travel back in time and post this before you!!!
There is no knowledge that is no power.
Ahhh I remember turning this on for fun adn god it was awful
