You can either be rezzed, or return to the last aetheryte crystal you touched for free. You'll be saddled with a debuff that makes it tough to kill anything but weak mobs for about 3 mins. That's all.

Cool, I'm sort of glad they chose not to have EXP loss. But it kinda sucks cuz it used to be a pretty good deterent not to die. So now, I guess we'll see a lot more people dying.

I see alot of suicide runs in this game now. I dident like the Deleveling of the Old game. But the Harsh EXP hit was a good reason to fight as a team and win. Haveing everyone poping 2 hours to finnish the push and make the fight end was one of the best parts of the game To me.

Because unlike WoW, monsters aren't organized in cute little subsets with obvious "recommended levels" for each battle. You never know when a monster is going to be obscenely powerful or relatively weak until you fight it, and punishing people simply for exploring is just unfair to the player.
Personally I think the entire concept of punishing people for dying in an MMO is completely pointless, as you lose enough having failed the mission or having to travel all the way back to where you got killed. I don't need my stats reduced to realize the need to "sharpen up". This archaic exp-penalty crap shouldn't have been included in FF XI and doesn't belong in any modern MMOs.

The thing I didn't like about FFXI DP was it took 10% of your XP if you returned to your Mog house... plus you could delevel. Even getting a rez the xp lost was too great.
I'd rather have a 3% SP(Class Skill Points, not XP) debt placed on me for returning and a 1% if I get a rez.. instead of a 3 minute annoying debuff.
As for the dude that said you should lose your some of your loot, that is a big no go for me... wouldn't play a game with that.

We need dropable loot, but the WoW generation has pretty but nixed the idea of a real death penalty.
