Open beta with or without keys, who knows? :-)
If anyone still have an old key sitting around I would love one, espec. if it's the only way to try open beta. But this issue seems very unclear as just about any issue regarding this game..

edit. sry just read that the old keys will work in next phase, not registred keys will expire.

Beta Keys Update from Square Enix
Square Enix emailed us to let us know how the beta keys you won here at FFXIVCore.com (and other community sites) will work when Open Beta starts. Basically, the keys will change when the open beta goes live. Everyone that is already registered and playing in the beta will be sent an e-mail to their registered Square Enix Account with a new key that can be redeemed in the same fashion as previous keys.
However, if you did not register your key yet, please do so right now! Because once phase 3 ends, they will no longer work. Therefore we want to make sure everyone at least registers them now, so that you'll get the updated key when they’re automatically sent out.
Again, if you got a beta key from us, please go register it to your Square Enix Account right now!

Basically, the thread starter is saying - if you want to have guaranteed access to OB, then register your existing closed beta account before the expiry deadline, since those already in CB will have guaranteed access to OB.
I personally suspect that Open Beta will not be completely 'Open', and at least intially, will be invite only. (except with larger amounts of keys availiable).
