The C store for Star Trek Online is a little bigger than I realized. It really is shaping up to be an item mall as there are over 50 items in it to purchase. I didn't think there were that many things there yet, and there is more to come soon... such as the tier 5 Excelsior refit that has been added today (8/26/10) which costs 1200 cryptic points. How do the amount of items in the C store compare to other item shops in other games that you have seen?
Granted, there is nothing in the store that will give you an advangate in the game, or make it so if you buy something it will alter my play expierence if you use said item around me. If you consider the Gal X an ingame advantage... well... I see it as more of a money waster as the perks of owning it are most likely wasted on not knowing how to use said perks to be any more affective than you already were.
In the STO C store there are:
-12 bridge packs which cover both federation and Klingon ships
-12 ships. This includes retrofits, extra ship "costumes", as well as the Constitution class ship and Dreadnaught.
-7 playable species.
-6 uniform packs, including the most recent off duty formal wear (the 21st century stuff)
-6 account services (rename, retrain, character slots, bridge officer slots, ship slots, costume slots)
-4 Emotes
-2 borg bridge officer options (klingon/fed liberated borg)
-2 pets (tribble and a targ)
-1 NX designation for your ship
and a partridge in a pear tree? heh heh just kidding.
To have one of everything, you need to spend approximatley 16,540 cryptic points if you only want the extra 2 character slots. For the extra 4, you need to spend approximatley 16,890 cryptic points, which translates to 215 bucks.
How much more do you think the C store will grow and should the store have this stuff in it anyway? What other types of items do you predict being put into the store?
Oh.. to all that just want to come in here and make comments like..... "Oh geez... more complaining about the C store", or "qq more", and "More crying about the C store" the thread has no intention of doing that. I am merely listing all of whats available and reading feedback reguarding items in the store. So if all you want to do is just critisize without reading the whole post, well.... dont make yourself look stupid by doing that.

donate cryptic points to save atari from going bankrupt- unlimited points, give as many as you can

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
UCG tool access will by a C-Store item , if not directly , then in some round about manner. Yes, you heard it here first. My prediction. I dare someone to start that thread on the STO boards. Any new faction material or access to it. They will of course claim they need to finish Klingons. Claim they finished Klingons and then introduce the new faction through the C-Store and everything that goes with that faction. New zones will probably be introduced also once they term the game complete. They will take the Turbine model and tweak it to milk money from the playerbase. Any content outside of Federation/Klingon gameplay will be in the C-Store.
You shouldn't brag about STO's store being so full of stuff. It isn't good game design, it's just greed, pure and simple.
Cryptic's C-Store model has very little resemblance to Turbines cash shop. With Turbine if you pay a monthly subscription you receive turbine points. You can save these point to purchase items out of the store, including paid expansions. This means if you have a subscription you can 'purchase' cash shop items and not cost you a cent over your monthly fee.
Cryptic wants the best of all worlds. Put out a second rate game, charge a premium like it was a AAA tittle PLUS extract even more cash out of the already paying customers for c-store items.
Suckers.
Brag? Who is bragging? Im just putting it out there for people to see the things that cryptic is putting in the store. It is greed, and im hoping that is the message people will see when they realize whats in the darn store. A bunch of extra un needed crap that they hope to sucker people into buying.... like emotes? Holy geez lol. You should know by now that Im not one to brag about this game heh heh.
STO is so cheap and shallow that its not worty of a monthly sub. Having the C-store on top of that is just them trying to squeze as much money out of Star trek fans as possible.
Its disgusting.
Cryptic is the only company I would never buy a game from.
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Gotta love a company that has the nearve to put out what they admit themselfs as being a sub standered product already lite on content that plays like a single player game, that not only chargers for a sub for said single player game with chat box but also makes you buy content from there ever growing cash shop which sees more updates than the game itself, best thing is people are eating this shit up and buying this crap?.
Now thats greed for you.
Like someone else posted on some other site.
Cryptic has their players on farm mode.
Ah, I see. I thought you were bragging about how great the cash shop is.
Never spent a buck on C Store except for the free points that i got with game purchase. i am still playing the game and in no way feel that other players have advantage over me in some way. Maybe because i don't have 'i want it all' mentality'. I enjoy my game and don't care what others are spending their money on.

I suppose thats a risk I took when I made the thread. It was more for people to know whats in it if they have not been to the STO site to see. Also, for people to see whats in it now in lite of some of Emmerts recent comments, and you can find a discussion about it here http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=177070, will show the true nature of cryptic, and that is one of greed.
I sort of feel similar to what you said. Personally... I dont see a need for the store at all.
Doesn't it make you mad that you pay $15 a month for the developers to continue to develop stuff for the game, and then they make stuff they want you to pay for?
I can understand having a few items in the store, a costume pack every once in a while, but there is a glut of stuff that they pile into the C-Store. There should not be almost $200 worth of stuff in a store for a game 7 months old. You're paying for them to develop this stuff, they're trying to double dip into your pocket.
To be honest, Cryptic's c-store isn't the worst that I've seen, that title goes to Rule the Seas!. Rts is a text-based pirates game which has 25 "items" in it's c-store, the top package deal costs $412.50. More than a few of the things you can buy will set you back $150-$250. And unlike STO, a lot of what players buy in the c-store do give an unfair advantage. Unlike STO, Rts players aren't forced to pay for a sub, but many do and then buy c-shop packages as well.
And you can't really compare Cryptic's business model to Turbine's. As someone already pointed out subscribers get free TP. On top of that, all players get free TP by completeing quests (and in DDO by beating quests on Epic level). Turbine wins - no contest.
its common courtesy, you just don't double dip
They are not MAKING me pay for anything. Thats why i didn't spend even a single buck on it. So why would i get mad over it? when i am not forced to pay for anything?

They're not making a complete bug-free game with content availability comparable to other titles at the same price points, either.
RELAX!@!! BREATHE!!!
Look at it in this context . Most MMO's have exponetial leveling. So it takes a great deal longer to level to max . So if they add content every 3 months , you're paying them for two months of stale content. The new content perhaps takes you a week or two to do ? Yet they pump more and more content into the C-Store at a faster rate then they do the new content.
Thats what $oE are doing on the live servers right now. They took mounts that were always there off the merchant and made them only buyable through their market. Not to mention they NgE'd EQ2 last week and reduced great animations to garbage animations. It is not the way of the new mmo's, but some people seem to think it is. EQ2 has $25 mounts and $17 appearance armor, but told everyone they would never put anything on the market that would give an ingame advantage, and would never have rmt on the live servers, LOL.
I would have to agree with you Kaltoum. I only purchased things in the cstore I got from buying the game and from people subbing to the free trial keys I sent out. I don't think there is a single thing in the cstore I feel I "need" to have in order for me to enjoy STO.

If you want the stuff you spend $15 a month for them to develop, then yes, you do HAVE to pay for it.
Then if someone wants the mount they pay Blizzard $15 a month for to develop then they HAVE to pay for it. If someone wants the dog companion they pay $15 month to devs of Fallen Earth then they HAVE to pay for it. Same goes for the mounts offered in EQ/EQ2. Lets all go make evil greedy posts in those forums how those companies are bad for doing this.
I don't like the cstore at all. I don't wish it was there. Cryptic offers more in their store sure, do we need it? No. Want? That's up to you, but by WANTING it then the cstore is not alone in this business.

I am getting plenty of content in game for my 15 bucks a month. C-Store is not essential for my gameplay. That is why i don't consider it as content.

Its not that they have a c store its how much goes into it, emotes really? they should be ingame thats just stupid, ships that when they did get put up there did give an advantage.
It's really sad that they charge people extra for those things. Most AAA games include those things as part of your paid subscription. The MMO world is really going down the dumps...
