I am looking forward for a MMO which is not based on questing, meaning thousands of unmeaningful quests over and over for character achievement (ie WAR, WoW, EQ2).
Please your recommendations and I will be making a list of games for those who prefer games without such questing system (EQ, EVE...)
current:
EQ(project1999)/Half Elf/Bard/Lvl 7
EQ/Human/Shadowknight/14(retired)
EQ/Erudite/Wizard/22(retired)
WoW/Dwarf/Warrior/Jari/Lvl 44(retired)
EQ2/Ogre/Bruiser/Ashur/Lvl 31
EvE/Rads Atreid
EQ2/Antonia Bayle/High Elf/Fury/Loreleia/70
MMOs played:EQ,WoW,EQ2
MMOs tried:SWG,ATitD,Vanguard,Eve

I'm no longer playing WAR but i reached level 32 without doing any quests (only open rvr and scenarios) on my alt.
I like how you're taking potshots at "unmeaningfull" quest based MMOs when your own sig is dominated by your characters from those exact types of games.

Er, even games which are based on questing - you don't have to quest? So you can level to 80 on wow without ever doing a quest and the like?
Just seems like a bit of a strange thing to do - create a list of games where you can't quest... begs the question, and the point is?
simple, now I am looking for different kind of games
current:
EQ(project1999)/Half Elf/Bard/Lvl 7
EQ/Human/Shadowknight/14(retired)
EQ/Erudite/Wizard/22(retired)
WoW/Dwarf/Warrior/Jari/Lvl 44(retired)
EQ2/Ogre/Bruiser/Ashur/Lvl 31
EvE/Rads Atreid
EQ2/Antonia Bayle/High Elf/Fury/Loreleia/70
MMOs played:EQ,WoW,EQ2
MMOs tried:SWG,ATitD,Vanguard,Eve
point is having a list for those who are looking for a game that is not quest oriented
current:
EQ(project1999)/Half Elf/Bard/Lvl 7
EQ/Human/Shadowknight/14(retired)
EQ/Erudite/Wizard/22(retired)
WoW/Dwarf/Warrior/Jari/Lvl 44(retired)
EQ2/Ogre/Bruiser/Ashur/Lvl 31
EvE/Rads Atreid
EQ2/Antonia Bayle/High Elf/Fury/Loreleia/70
MMOs played:EQ,WoW,EQ2
MMOs tried:SWG,ATitD,Vanguard,Eve
My personal favorites for MMOs not dependent on questing would be Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, and Lineage 2. You advance the fastest by just killing mobs until you can move on to another area. I guess you could play those games nowadays just by questing, but they really weren't designed for it. They're still my favorite to go back to whenever I get burnt out on the quest-heavy MMOs like EQ2, WoW, Lotro, etc.
Wrong forum, that's what LFGame is for.
Also, you appear to be suffering from acute burnout complemented with a side-order of disillusion that quests are somehow the key problem with MMO longevity.
That said, anything with "sandbox" bandying around somewhere probably doesn't rely on quests, although even DarkFall and EVE have them in some form so...
It's a choice between doing quests or gaining skils (either by doing them or waiting on them) so consider what you really want.
RIFT was a *crushing* disappointment; a shallow, loveless, generic MMO the likes of which hasn't been seen in a P2P format since, well, forever.
Eagerly awaiting: World of Darkness, ArcheAge.
Pretty much all Asian F2P games are *not* based on questing.... So you have a great variety to choose from
Dude... "games", "asian" and "variety" do not belong in the same sentence!
Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...
I am surprised no one mentioned Darkfall and Mortal Online. I would try DF first and after half a year MO ( it still needs a lot of work, but it is getting better ).
Some MMOs that are not basedon questing
Lineage 2
EVE Online
Ultima Online
Battle Swarm
2029 Online
GoGo Racer
Project Torque
Hello Kitty Online
Navy Field
any MMOFPS
most PBBG MMOs
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I would say EVE, ATITD or Lineage2 but then those are they only ones I have played that fall in that direction.
Lineage 2 does have quests but the rewards are pretty incidental so they are rarely done. You do need to do quests for your class changes though so they can't be entirely avoided
EVE does have missions which are basically random quests but they don't drive the story in anyway. I fact, there really is no story to be driven. Very sandbox, very undirected.
A Tale in the Desert does have tests which are a little like quests that you need for leveling but it is still a very undirected, open ended game. No combat though. a straight up builder game.
So if you like building and crafting, go Tale. If you want combat and pvp but still completely open ended go EVE. And if you wanto something that is more level based and fantasy just without the emphasis on quest grinding go with Lineage 2.
I am sure there are more but I can only speak to what I have played.
All die, so die well.
Everquest Online Adventures had almost no quests in it, we use to joke and say how it should be called "Neverquest". and the quests it did have you actually wanted to do for the rewards and gave almost no exp. the rewards for most quests was an actual class ability, and starting at 20 every 10 levels you did your "epic" quest wich you'd pick one of 2 class defining abilities. and you had to pick wisely because you wanted to keep picking the same one every 10 levels because if you did the end level version of the spell would be 50% more powerful than if you had mixed your choices. and i can't think of a single class that the choice was easy or obvious cept maybe a ranger and you knew you wanted use bows primarily in wich case you'd HAVE to pick the bow buff epic ability instead of the melee weapon proc epic ability.
I was going to say this as well. Most Asian games are dependent on grind, if that is what you are looking for. The Game List has several of these listed.
Some of the games listed...L2, EvE, Darkfall, and DAoC have quests. They may not be dependent upon them, but they are there.
I played it recently through a 10 day trial. It's no longer the game it used to be. They fell in with the WoW me too crowd and changed all of there stuff to add in quests. They even went as far as to change the default layout to how WoW's works (WSAD).
Not many games offer an alternative to questing anymore and at the same time I think a lot of people are getting burned out on meaningless quests (I think it maybe be true only if you played non questing games first).
I'd say if you have EQ you should look into Project 1999.
LotrO F2P will be the best for you people who dont like questing!
After about level 25 you will get no more quests so you just have to grind mobs and you dont even have to pay for it!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
That really depends on what you mean by 'quest oriented'. Personally I do not qualify WoW as 'quest oriented' but simply a game with a lot of quests. There are few quests that you have to do to progress and you can pick and choose which of the rest you want to do or whether you want to do any of them at all.
Ryzom, lineage 2 and almost every older f2p mmo. The newer ones tend to add hundreds of useless kill x quests.
wurm, haven and hearth
Not exactly true, but close enough. You can still do the epic quest line.
Fair enough. Best of luck then.

Mortal Online dosent have any quests. Pretty awesome game, but its still abit buggy and maybe abit on the downside content wise, but they are patching very often adding new features and bug fixing. It should be a great game to play once it gets abit more polish, so unless you can play through a few bugs and server problems i would suggest waiting 6 months before trying out MO (if you havent allrdy)
Thats the only game i personally have played that isnt quest based, im sure there is alot more of them out there tough.
What about darkfall? I think it has some quests but its not _THAT_ quest heavy like wow etc, if im not completley mistaken? i havent played it so not 100% sure on this one.
