Gender Switching

Why do people switch gender when playing WoW? Anyone who does switch gender and who might be interested in taking an anonymous survey I'm doing for my college thesis, it would help so much! Here's the link. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/genderresearchwow

I'm a man playing as a woman. I never really thought about why I play as a woman, I just chose that character from the beginning for the hell of it.. I suppose it let's you really escape into the game, like you can just be a different person. It's interesting playing like that, it's not like in something like Street Fighter where you pick a woman cause they're good at fighting, in wow you really become the character. I don't know if it has anything to do with playing as a woman, but other players seem to be really friendly towards me, you know, really helpful..

Hope this helps anyway, I'll fill out your survey now..

I play as a male, and I'm a girl. Generally I do this cos' the avatar design is ridiculously offensive, and are obviously designed for the male market! Also, I kinda enjoy being a bit more agressive as a male in the game..I think you might be able to get away with it more when you're a man. I think you're taken seriously a bit more as a man. I'll do your survey too! Good luck with your thesis!

I will usually play a male main and roll a female or 2 alt characters. To me it really doesnt matter in game what avatar you play. I dont " become" my character.

Some avatars look better as female models vs males. When I did play WoW my main for many years was a NE male rogue, I had an UD female Warlock who I ended up playing full time for several years who started off as an alt.

I think the female UD warlock looked pretty badass, and thats the reason I picked that model at the time.

I play an orc, yeah, an orc. Does it matter what gender it is?

I'm a man and i play as a female with my main. Honestly i think it's easier to get help with quests as a female and people give you more gifts and stuff. Maybe it's just my imagination but it sure seems that way

I only do these "surveys" for friends, or people with at least more than 1 post. If I knew you were a legitimate MMORPG player (and thus have some sort of interest in your research, I would gladly help, but you clearly signed up just to post this.

These topics do get old don't they? Why did Anthony Hopkins play a cannibal 3 times? We all asume he doesn't actually like to eat people, right? sure he got paid well, but he didn't HAVE to play a cannibal.

Hey, maybe you should do your research on how most MMO players are total a holes!

I play as a guy, generally its cos I think you get a bit more respect, and are taken a bit more seriously cos nobody is thinking your a guy playing as a girl, they just leave you alone. I think, with all the help thats given to girls, you get a greater sense of achievment when you play as a man. I dunno, thats why i do it anyway.

Yeah I'd kinda agree with you there. Ha to be honest I suppose one of reasons that I play as a chick is because she's kinda hot.. I mean that's probably one of the reasons I was drawn to it at first..
