  If I remember correctly, When I did the beta, the launch icon on my desktop took me to a web page where you had to launch from.

  You log into the game from the website. It has a launcher that starts the game through that website link it installs.

  Yes, when you double-click the icon it starts up their secure website. You log into there, twice, then it launches the game.

  Currently it uses the secure site for log-in and playing.  A batch file can be created to bypass it, but will need to patch to update your files.
