just seen an interesting story on massively.com http://www.massively.com/2010/08/28/waging-war-rvr-packs-the-wait-and-see-edition/
I think maybe we will see Warhammer become the next free to play game by early next year .All conjecture at this point of course but its unlikly a company would allow a game to go under when theres another option that may make it a success . (Unless of course your Ncsoft with Tabula Rasa) to me this looks like theres plans afoot . ( cunning ones as Baldrick would say ) :P

Id play it if it was free, might even spend money in a shop if it had anything half decent looking.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
I don't think you would be alone . I had a lot of fun on the two week welcome back . Just not 15 dollars a months worth of fun .
I am in the same boat Warmaster...if it were free I would play the game...I had fun playin it back in the days but only for short periods of time

Well, WAR has regained a few subscriptions in the last few months, so my guess is that they'll stick to the model they have set in place at least until one of the new MMOs that appeals to the PVP crowds is released.
I don't really care what happens with this game either way. I wouldn't pay the monthly fee regardless, but here's where I stand in general: If I pay a box price and the industry standard $15 monthly fee to play an MMOG, I absolutely will not pay extra money for "content" like what would be in these "RvR Packs". Silly little pets, mounts, flair, extra little things are fine for a standard subscription based MMOG, but not what I would consider actual content. That should come with the monthly fee unless it's a full blown expansion pack. I feel like a lot of the people that play MMOGs have a similar mindset to myself with regard to this issue, and I don't think that you are going to convince people otherwise...

This is the part that baffles me.... I don't see a pvp crowd spending a whole lot of money on pets, dyes, and general "fluff". I also don't see them "selling" armor sets/weapons as this would bring a lot of balance issues about. They certainly won't allow you to buy new content (zones) as all this would do is split up the war fronts even farther than they already are...
I've said it before, what exactly are these shops suppose to sell?
If it goes f2p I'll be re-installing it tomorrow.
I nearly did resubbed myself but at the end of two weeks (well in fact it was closer to three because for some reason i got longer than i expected) of play I found myself getting a little bored . Which is the main problem I have with WAR I can play it for short periods and really enjoy it but not for extended stays . In a way I wish they would offer two week subs as thats about as long as I can play it and enjoy it . My gut instinct is it they proberbly will try free to play sometime in 2011 .
Itemshops in PvP games is a horribly bad idea.
WARS problem is crappy endgame and screwing over the original lore. As long as they don't fix the endgame it doesn't matter how people pay. Fix the endgame and they will get some players back.
It coudl be going free to play like lotro, but frankly I think it looks more like the adventure packs for EQ 2.

For me this is its biggest issue as well, and I pretty much thought this right from the get-go.
Obviously not all, but i think a lot of people will let the levelling process go, for green patures at end game. Sadly, the best part of War at times is the levelling process.
I play it, mainly because i like PvP, the end game however is seriously lacking. Its much, much better than it was as far as the city sieges go, but still not even close to what i was expecting.
What was I expecting? Not sure, but this wasn't it.
If it had more pve content i'd sub. my problem is the end game is pure pvp nothing more and why would i pay for JUST pvp when i get it free from other games.if it does go f2p i might play it off and on but still wouldnt get heavy into it until they added more variety at end game.
Exactly what I'd say, so quoted.

WAR is already a F2P. Just download the "endless trial". Tier 1 is where the fun is. And it's for free. I am loving it while I wait for GW2 lol
Very true and like a lot of people I will play t1 now and again . It does'nt however make much profit . Where as the DDO style free to play does as it allows players to get further into the game and thus they feel a more vested interest in it . I prefer the hyrbid model to the cash shop one . So far f2p has been applied mostly to pve orientated games it would be interesting to see how it would work in a pvp one as people don't as a rule like buy to win .
I remember reading that when DDO went F2P it cashed in 500% profit than when it waas P2P.
I hope Bioware/EA understands that and make it F2P and do lots of advertisement about it and trust me people are going to flood the game.

I currently pay the monthly sub and enjoy it. Right now, there just isn't any other pvp game that comes close imo. I wouldn't mind it going F2P as long as there weren't balance issues, but I don't see how in a pvp game you could sell things in a cs and not make it p2w.
I suppose you could sell things like cosmetic armor sets that have no stats, maybe some xp/inf/rr potions that boost those or some cosmetic mounts, but other than that, everything else would give an unfair advantage.
I just don't see it.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
WAR has some dedicated fans but i dont think thats enough for the game to survive in the long term. Eventually they will leave the game as well, as soon as a new challenge appears. Many games are going to launch soon and i predict that the WAR population will drop drastically. I think most players play it to pass the time until something new that they are waiting comes out.
My brain has 2 sides;Left and right. My left side has nothing right and my right side has nothing left...
Everyone seems to say that if a game went F2P that they would start playing it again. I used to think that way. . until I was given free time for a game .. . logged in and logged out again within the hour for the same reason I left the first time.
There is certainly a psychological reason for not subbing to a game that you don't play. . but if it wasn't worth $15 a month before is it worth playing at all? There are a lot of other options out there. I guess if the $15 is something you don't want to waste I can understand that. I just don't think MMOs are something you (or I at least) typically play once or twice a month. . free or not.
They did state last week in another article that Warhammer would not be going free to play though.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
But to be honest, I play on Karak-Norn with my rank 22 Chosen, I ranked him up exclusively through RvR and it was hell lots of fun (especially world RvR from Capturing Keeps and Battle Objects, to smashing the puny order faces hard).
So I hope the game doesn't die soon.

I've been playing WAR since release and still currently playing. I still have plunty of fun in "endgame". They have made it a bit better over the last few patches. As Carrie stated in Aug.2010's Producers letter
"WAR is not going Free 2 Play: We’re not considering this option right now. We’re learning lessons from micro-transaction driven games; however we’re not interested in directly selling things like armor progression or other piecemeal power options. What we do plan on introducing is paid services such as server transfers, character renames and other commonly found services. We are committed to implementing these services in a responsible manner and won’t flip that switch until we’re satisfied that it will not compromise your in game experience. Additionally, we will continue to offer that buffet of services by offering the entire RVR pack purchasable in three segments. Each player can get what the features they want without committing to the whole thing (though we do think all three packs will be pretty great"
Oh but I think maby your wrong, cuz Warhammer wont be f2p ( as Carrie stated in the august Producers letter ). If they even will consider it to be f2p I will instantly stop playing the game. F2p lowers the standard and the quality for a game. In my opinion if you go from p2p to f2p you have lost all you honor and dignity as a game developer, to go from the finer elements of the gaming industry to degrate oneself to the lower caste is just epic fail.
If you ruin the core mechanism in a decent p2p game with f2p ( item mall where you can buy amor, weapon and upgrades or even quests in new areas, new races etc and cheat your way to the top ) just for the sake of earning more cash and getting more players, you have lost your passion for gamemaking hence you lowered yourselfe to a lower, greedy caste of game makers. One of whose games I wouldnt play even if I got payed for it.
WAR + f2p = NO thx
