Right before the beta ended a high level Thaumaturge in my linkshell said he was able to kill a Goobbue (the toughest monster in the entire closed beta) by simply using the Punishing Barbs ability to reflect 100% of the damage from one of it's attacks. Can anyone confirm if this is possible? It just feels extremely overpowered to me. I don't think a group of level 10 spellcasters should be able to wander around and kill off endgame content like that, even if they die in the process.

I don't think there was any "endgame content" in the beta. Just a guess.
If it is true I am sure it has been reported and will be fixed with the multitude of other things that players would have reported during the latter end of Beta 3. And there was only lower level content in the beta from my experience... and you were constricted to LL and surrounding areas.
Considering the current level of stat growth and how Square specifically inflated the stats of monsters to represent a wide range of levels, I can say with pretty good certainty that nobody but a max level character would last a chance against that creature. That's all I mean by "endgame", when you simply can't raise your EXP anymore.
Never heard anything like that, he's the description for the spell your talking about though: http://www.eorzeapedia.com/wiki/en/Punishing_Barbs
Punishing Barbs - Channel your pain to an enemy, redirecting a portion of damage dealt to you back to its source.
Initial observation indicates that Punishing Barbs returns 100% of damage back to its source. Appears to have an eventual cap. Dealt back 380 damage from a 1980 damage attack.
Decent spell, but if it has a cap to the damage it can reflect it won't be quite that useful.
Edit: Sounds like it only reflects a single attack as well? Not sure..if it does and it's on a 3 min cooldown it's not as good as i thought unless timed properly.
No, it's like a buff that lasts like...20 seconds maybe. Directs all damage back to its source for the duration, no cap that I noticed. I didn't like it that much to be honest, the cooldown is long while soloing and in a group you shouldn't be getting hit. And I'm not 100% sure but I think the cooldown when used on a different class goes to like 5-6 minutes. At least at my level, there were better spells to put in. A DD spell would do around 170 and you'd get hit for around 100 by some mobs.
yeah I doubt we have end game mobs wandering near the newbie zones. They are just tough.
A.K.A. VirgoThree
Goobbue actually wasn't the toughest monster in beta. There is a named toad (and all the monsters in that area were hitting for far more than a Goobbue) in an area with loads of Ahriman (beholder type creatures) and other high level monsters that attack on sight that hit for far more. There are also higher level versions of the Goobbue in different areas of beta.
I seriously doubt he killed the Goobbue with Punishing Barbs. Even a few of us at ~20 weren't able to bring it's health down a significant amount. I'd hate to be childish, but "screenshot or it didn't happen".
I actually remember getting hit and "reflecting" SOME damage, not 100%...

I actually thought your avatar resembles male's private part.
Sure, you have an amazing imagination or you just have to stop thinking in sex.

avatar trolling failed, unless he changed to that white background porno avatar thing later.....
tsk.
I actually changed it, if someone think it is offensive to their poor eyes I have no problem on it, but if you think I am a 5 year old account troll, you are very very wrong.
You should stick to the topic here, not making offtopics about somebodys' avatar... the site has an option for this, PM feature.
