Excellent find! So what are Riftblade and Void Knight? are those the yet to be announced classes? or a talent spec title? Food for thought.
Oh, and jumping and swimming. Not that it matters to me(FFXIV will still be my NEXT mmo)
but for those who care about this sort of thing. There it is.
There are no "talent specs" in Rift:PoT. Riftblade and Void Knight are Warrior Souls (class). Both have not been officially announced but both have been seen in recent of videos from cons.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Awesome. So the "skill" tree is basically just a class tree but you can mix and match up to 3?
Between this game and GW2...I'm actually glad GW2 is non subscription. So I can play GW2 and Rift without feeling guilty heheh. NOw if only I can fit in SWTOR and FFXIV....so much to juggle. I really hope these games don't come out right on top of each other and are kind of spread out this way I can take a break from one to see the other and so forth. Then go back and repeat the process.

Nailed it! Spot on!
You (at level 30) can mix and match the abilites from 3 different classes via that screen. At max level you'll have either 50 or 51 points with which to do that. The only real restriction is that the classes have to fall within the same archtype (Warriors, Rogues, Cleric and Mages). So you can't have a Warrior soul in slot 1, a Cleric in slot 2 and a Mage in slot 3. You could have Reaver, Warlord and Riftblade slotted in your 3 slots as they are all Warrior archtype souls.
Oh, and when you create your character at first you have to pick an Archtype and that is locked (i.e., you pick Warrior and that character can only ever choose Warrior archtype souls). If you want to try out the other archtype's souls you have to roll another character. 4 characters and you can try out every soul(class) and the combinations thereof in the game.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
also it's worth to remember, that skills don't unlock in the same way they do in other games... as in you level up and then get them or buy them or something...
the only thing you get from leveling up is your skillpoints for the trees. You spend those points in the upper part of the tree which is basically like a talent or alternate advancement tree... as you spend points on things like "increases the damage caused by fiery buttwhoop by 5%" you unlock the roots of the tree in the following fashion: free - free - 1 - 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 12 - 14 - 16 - 18 -20 - 22 - 24 - 26 - 32 - 36 - 40 - 44 - 51. These roots represent the skill set of every class... and it's a total of 21 abilities (sometimes also just passives like shield mastery).
That means you can not only freely combine 3 souls of your calling and invest points in their respective talent sets, you ALSO get the skills of those 3 respective classes by spending points in their trees.... (also there are more active skills in the branches...)
I've done some test builds for fun and came up with 47 abilities on a Purifier/inqui/Sentinel ^^

well, good luck with the fatigue stuff then... hope it turns out better than it reads
Riftblade sounds neat... the Wiki also has Beastmaster listed as a Warrior soul.... really interesting stuff i have to say
Read more about the "fatigue" system. It won't affect me at all because I have no problem playing at LEAST 2 classes, just like in FFXI. But anyway...
I hope respecs are a part of building your character. I assume they are but you never know. Also, is it possible to not gimp yourself by fully speccing every single part of just 1 tree? Say I make a Ranger and just put points in everything in the Ranger tree, like focusing on one class only instead of mixing from 3. Will this be an option? Hopefully someone knows.
Beastmaster...hmmm. Doesn anyone have a window of release for this game? Like First quarter 2011? or 4th quarter?
On a side note. I'm loving the look of the mounts in this game. Very different. Another point in favor of Rift.

You can put all your points into one tree it just makse you more specialized. You'll also get abilities that only people who invest all their points in the tree will get. In the video for instance Rus mentions that the the guy playing the character during the Fire Rift stage has put almost all his points into the champion soul for more DPS.
You can also swap out your points anytime you want as well as souls and the trainer (i think), and save soul builds in up to four slots that you can change on the fly when out of combat.
Edit:
The release is rumored at Q1 2011 but nothing official yet.
hope you didn't take my FF remark personally.... honestly wasn't intended to be offending...
and I dunno about the trees... I guess you could mostly just spec one tree and maybe just grab some low stuff from the others or just ignore them... no idea really... the stuff in the higher branches !looks! a bit more powerful than the lower stuff, same for the deep roots stuff... but without being able to actually playtest and spill the beans it's hard to tell i guess...
My guess is though that the system will work better for hybrid builds... that's kind of what the System is built for anyway I figure...
But who knows?

It is not rumored to launch in Q! 2011. It has been a stated fact (at this past E3 and other recent cons) that Q1 2011 is their launch current window. Obviously if something horrific happens that will slide back but at current no such thing has happened to back them off the stated Q1 2011 release.
As for the hybrid comments mentioned I'd tend to agree from watching/reading all of the developer interviews. Trion really wants you to go hybrid and experiment but leave the door open for you to specialize all the way deep into a soul. THey have been adamant that specializing isn't "better" and that they intend for players to be able to accomplish roles using different combinations with no real one being a blown out "best way". If people get into the minutia of trying to find one way that is 1% more efficient, well, that's on them. Players who don't subscribe to "flavor of the month" builds will still be able to accomplish just as much and have just as much fun doing it "their own way".
