I know very little about this game, and the website doesn't really help me. I need your opinions to help me figure out if I should buy the game or not.

Honestly, I think you should go for it.
The way I see it, since there is no monthly fee, you dont have all that much to loose. People dont usally remember all of the crappy mario games they have bought because they didnt have to dump a ton of money paying monthly to play it. The worse thing that happens is you get it and hate it. If that happens, its not all that big of a deal being that you dont have a subscription.
You can play in the beta and see for yourself by either pre-ordering or just buying one of the keys from EB or Best buy. Another way to get one is to go around to different GW fansite forums and see if anyone has a spare pass.

You could also try to buy a pre order package from ebay. This way you can try the game in the coming beta weekend for $5 or something like that.
All you need to do is ask yourself a few questions before you really decide whether or not to play the game.
1.) Am I addicted to any other MMORPG at the moment? (World Of Warcraft doesn't count as it is crap)
2.) Are you willing to see the most well put together graphics known to any previous MMORPG? The thing about the graphics in this game is that they may not look very well with lower-end graphic cards, but if you've got a 256mb any-brand-card you will be able to tell how well put together, and how the DEVs put in a pretty fine line between quality and performance.
Already participating in 4 BWE, I should tell you that not once have I experienced any lag, graphical tear, render splashings, etc. If any game could be near perfection it is this game. I give it 5/5 on rating list and highly recommend all to play it.
It is also a game for very eclectic people, for instance; PvE is so awesome you can't even begin to understand until you experience it first hand. Solo'n is one the best way to explore the map in my honest opinion, until you start get further along in the mission based part. PvP; One of the greatest elements of this game. Not only will you be able to do tournaments, and have a ladder specifically ran by the GW team, you will be able to have MASSIVE Guild-Hall-Takedowns, as where two guilds will be fighting for the Guild Hall.
Hopefully that was enough information to get you convinced to buy the game, and I hope to see you ingame!

Amazon has the preorder disk for $1, problem is, this weekend may be the last beta weekend event. May not get to you in time.
