They must be expecting a massive flood of players. I only expected 2 servers, tops. I just hope when things settle down eventually we don't end up with even more lonely zones than we have now.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was in some way a reaction to EQ2X's huge influx of players. Never seen EQ2 so packed that it required 15+ mirrored zones (Halas 1, Halas 2, Halas 3, etc.) of every major area to support the population. There is only 1 EQ2X server, and the game is designed to create additional instanced mirrors when an area is full, so 4 new servers for Lotro F2P is probably a little conservative. The other thing to consider though is the update is for all servers - not a separate ruleset like EQ2X, so the original servers will help sustain the new population also.

this is a post from the lotro forum
"The existing servers being expanded via hardware and software updates. They are going to introduce a tech that they have used in limited fashion previously. They call it layering. Places like Thorin's Call can have multiple public instances called layers. When I tested layer tech in Beta there were 150 - 200 characters in each layer.
It takes a little getting used to. You can talk to people in region chat. They are in a different layer. You can not see them. Or interact with them. You can make groups. Not everyone is in your layer. You get a button to allow you to switch to the leader's layer. You want to trade with someone. You may have to form a fellowship. Switch layers. This tech is a more user friendly version of the tech that was used for Wall of Moria and the Mirkwood Landing.
There are two improvements.:
1) There were 150 of us in Thorin's Hall. We could move around without facing the running through shoulder height water issue in 21st Hall. The servers can handle more people in one area.
2) Too many people, Turbine layers the area to improve performance."
Well seeing no matter how many times I clicked I couldnt get the typing curser out of the quote box I will post a new reply.
I just thought i would add that tidbit because your post made me wonder if it was just current subs or past ones too that got early access.
I wish that they would go back to the 9.99 sub price they had before SoM tho.
They still do if you buy bulk months so 3-6-12
yea but thats most any mmo now the bulk discount,I usually pay for a month or 2 til i get bored and do something else and come back and pay for another month, that was one thing I loved about lotro was the 9.99 monthly sub they had.

Don't sub in that case, buy 10-20$ worth of TPs, and play as a premium player. You can buy between 3-6 zones for that and easily see tons of content. And best of all you can keep playing if you dont get bored.

I have the game up to and including SoM therefore from my understanding I already get to play as a "premium" and that is still not the same seeing that the only difference is you get 2 more character slots.

Not sure what you mean, but owning the expansions makes a hell of a lot more differences for a premium than 2 more characterslots. You own the content in the expansions, everything from zones to higher levelcap, Warder/RK class to Legendary items etc. Even a VIP would have to buy that.

Bring it on, I hope my EU Server 'Gilrain' will become more active. It was always a quiet server and lotro really does need grouping to get the some of the nice content done.

US servers? What about EU?
Any signals on how they will handle servers after first wave of f2p? Hate to roll and find my server dead in 2 months....
Sorry forgot to add that...they are the NA servers.
If DDO is anything to go then dead servers will be the least of their worries.

Seems abit optimistic to me but we will see. DDO only had 1 new server announced before launch and then later added another one.
Will be interesting to see how many new EU servers they will add. Im thinking 1 new for each language, maybe 2 german.
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

The new EU servers will be
• [DE] Anduin
• [DE] Gwaihir
• [EN] Withywindle
• [FR] Celduin
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Thank you, I will post them up on the OP.

Interesting that they expect more German players than english. It does make sense if you look at populations but it rarely translates to a game.
Edit: Talking EU servers here.
Not really, EU servers usually have more DE based severs then ENG or equal amounts.

I'm somewhat confused. If I play on a current server. Will that server be open early? Or only the 4 new servers.
8 new servers?! Holy crap!

Ahh, good. Now we can pick the server to start on this way I can roll my toon 2 days before my friends can play
All servers will go live with updates on the 8th...old and new.

I'd be willing to bet that they are going to get such a monumental rush of people that they will be adding servers within the first two weeks.
Hedonismbot: Your latest performance was as delectable as dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.
Landroval is the recommended rp friendly server and Crickhollow may be a 2nd one Unofficial of course.
There is speculation of anywhere from several hundreds of thousands to possibly 2 million Coming to Lotro in the next few months.

I wont be touching any of the new servers xD
