Unless you wanted to test 100,000 people trying to log into and register thier account on day 1..... Not that your system crapping out would be helpful in advance....
You realize that 100,000 people is still trying to get in and crashing the beta registration? They wouldn't be getting all on day one if it was guaranteed to get in at another date. I know I wouldn't be trying to get one right now if they would be giving as many slots as people wanted.

NA preorders alone are almost 200,000. Add in EU and Japan and you don't think at least 1 out of 4 people who bought the game are going to want to play as soon as they get thier box?
I was being conservative and you still missed the mark.
Point is, thier system sucks, point is its beta so a good time to test and fix it. Open beta, stress test here we come.

The sensible thing to do would have been to send invites and codes to the beta applicants, then open it up to everyone. It would have spread the traffic out a little bit while rewarding their fans.
Of course, nothing like a little free buzz by having your servers crashed by rabid fans. Seems almost deliberate.

And I'd say they've failed at that already.

Meh, if I didn't want to stress test my servers I wouldn't announce an open beta date. I would just say, hey its up!
