Where do you 'request' this key?
I got into my account once and I couldn't for the life of me see where to get it. Of course I clicked one of the options, and then it timed out again. 
Comments
1. go here: http://entry.ffxiv.com/
2. select your region.
3. scroll to the bottom of the page.
4. click the button called "Apply for open beta test"
5. profit?
To get the code:
go to http://entry.ffxiv.com/na/index.html
click apply for beta
a screen will pop-up for square enix username and password
click login
after this a screen will show up with terms, accept them and submit
then you will get an email with your beta code
between each section you might have to refresh your browser many times due to timeouts

Heh, got my key, was able to actually log into my account, tried to apply key.... and timed out! XD

How long did it take for you guys to get the email with the key?
i got a partial log in screen once to activate it.. but the button to login never loaded... and enter does not work =/
Like 5 seconds.

scrolled to bottom ..hit the button over and over ...logged into my account then accepted terms hit button even if it hangs it should accept you...got my email after asking it to resend
if any one has an extra key, please, please, can you help me out?
i got mine setup and ready... servers are still down though
when i finally got through fighting the web page timeouts the email came instantly... then more fighting to register code.... keep at it!

This is to the same for me, instantly. IE, FF and Chrome. Doesn't matter. Are people just refreshing the 'busy' page or are they going back to the entry page and hitting the apply again?
nah everytime i click the apply button at the bottom i just get this http://entry.ffxiv.com/busy/
This is lamesauce, client takes forever to download and I can't get my darn key. Oh well i should be able to get in tomorrow when everyone else it at work.
Well, was able to get into my SE acct again, got the key entered.... and timed out again! Getting closer though...
I had this too but I used a mouse with a key to go backwards and just click the apply button again. Takes just as long as pressing the F5 key and I got my key just now

what page do you refresh on fire fox
i still havent got in to the agree page still on apply and it leads to busy
To those of you who got to the "agreement" page and can't get any further cuz everything seems "shut down". You can browse your history and find that page and resubmit. I just got my key after some diligent retrying.
