Not necessarily because with today's troubles EVERYONE was trying to get in at 7pm PST.  First day of preordered box sales, logins will be spaced out a lot more than this mad race of everybody trying to get on and the exact same time.  Also, everyone that's trying to get on right now and crying about not being able too more than likely DOES NOT have a copy preordered.  A would say that a large percentage are wanting to try and get in to see if they will preorder...

But it is the same folks planning capacity for release day apparently didn't anticipate this kind of load for today at the announced go-live time. In the end, it all indicates bad planning. Why didn't they implement some kind of a login queue? And if it needed to be spread out why didn't they start issuing codes a week ago and then start registering them a few days ago and then start accepting logins to the beta servers today? Why turn on all three at the same time? Unless they though their servers could handle it.

And I am not upset about not getting to play tonight. I still have 5 1/2 hours left on the download so I wasn't expecting to play it soon anyway.  I am simply surprised that they planned this part of it so poorly. Open Betas are, after all, a very public thing. An opportunity to put across a first impression. So I am just saying that I am not as confident as I was just 24 hours ago.

    All die, so die well.

It's soo sad, every new MMO that launches (or Open Beta day) goes through the same shit.

10 years along - well more but... Can't they figure this stuff out? Don't give me any "but its beta but its testing but its expected" crap because in 2010 there is no excuse for this kind of crap. There are ways to address load.

Is there no one doing damage control or scenario analysis for possible issues? Hope every Square employee feels so proud of their "beautiful" texture work. Since the network/web service guys must have been kept in the dungeon after Alpha.

I am not really ranting in vent mode or anything. No key for me either, but come on! It's damn frustrating to witness every MMO repeat the same stuff every single time. Guess Tanaka really did only play FF11 (in a closet) for the last 8 years. Sure seems oblivious to the perils of a OB or launch day.

heh and all consumers will get is a "we apologize for any inconvenience". It's ok Square *pats on head* launching a MMO is a tough job into uncharted territory it takes planning, professionalism, foresight... oh.

Can anyone explain why   http://account-gate.square-enix.com/obtentry/en.html   takes you to http://entry.ffxiv.com/busy/ , yet   http://account.square-enix.com/obtentry/en.html   takes you to a maintenence screen. Yes, before you say it, I know that the first link says, "account-gate.square" and the second one says, "account.square", however if the first one is specifically for the OB signup, then why would the second link have need for the "obentry/en.html" page? Why would it even exist to take you to a maintenence page?

I believe they just put in a redirect until "congestion" calms down. Or until they figure out how to handle traffic.

I suspect it's a manual (intentional) redirect too not a automatic fail over, they are just displaying that page instead of allowing users to time out and hit "page cannot be displayed" window or something.
