Very Disappointed

Flame me if you want but this is now getting me down quite a bit

Im a huge FF fan, played all the games

Im just so disappointed how SquareEnix has handled everything

First off, VERY LITTLE news on matters. I feel more left in the dark  than I do when im home with my wife at the dinner table

Everything seems to be failing (here atleast, heard some people have had little to no issues, lucky I guess)

The downloader for the OB client is really bad so i had to get it off a friend (god knows how he got it)

I stayed up (yes thats how excited I was) until 4am to try get a OB key but the servers failed so hard I couldnt even get that right

Woke up and tryed some more, still fail

Tryed about 20 mins ago and they tell me they arnt giving out keys atm

I heard you dont even get a key even if you pre-orderd the game, thats completely horrifying tbh

The whole way this game has been handled has made me really frustrated and disappointed

I really hope the gameplay makes up for it

I really want this game to be good, to keep me busy and for me to get all the enjoyment out of it im sure SquareEnix intended for

Very new poster here,so im sorry to make my second post a rant QQ Whatever you guys name any kind of constructive complaint

Thanks for reading

Played a very short amount. Graphically absolutely gorgeous. The bit that gets me is just how damn bad the mouse lag is, its actually unplayable. Next time I jump in i'll try with my 360 pad, i've heard that it plays alot better that way.

It's just open beta.  Kind of what beta is for..  these things are usually nightmares.  SE has posted news throughout though I am not sure why you are in the dark.

    - Sep 1st ob starts

    - Aug 29th early ob start

    - Critical bug OB postponed

    - Critical bug fixed Sep 1st ob starts

    - Servers slammed making it hard to get a key

There are still keys.  This is largely I think why many devs just let Fileplant host their OB and let them do it for subscribers first.  I wouldn't judge the game because of some day 1 open beta hiccups.

If in the next day you don't get a key send me a message and i'll let you jump on my account.  I know how frustrating launches and day 1's of OB's can be.  I have put myself through them with almost every MMO to come out and I am addicted like a war junky.  No reason to get all down about it though.

I totally agree with you, Square Enix has handled his Open Beta start quite bad. What happens here, they didnt expect that many people trying to go in? Don't make me laught, an Open Beta is an Open Beta

Take it easy, take a walk, go to the mall, don't be an overhyped marketing product. :)

Betas are always a nightmare, as well as game releases. Cut yourself off the medias or websites for few days, and try to avoid betas or release days and you'll save yourself a ton of frustration. That's what I do, and I'm alright.

Tell me about one AAA mmorpg open beta launch or regular launch day that didn't get plagued by server congestion, server issues, and the like.  You can't because there isn't one.  It is the nature of MMORPG's.  You have 90% of the playerbase slamming the servers at the same time, but after a week the players will be spread out.  You can overcompensate and waste money for the launch day when there won't be that much stress on the servers again probably ever, or you can let players be patient.

On most of your...complaint I concur, say one; open beta for pre-orders. Did they assure you of a key if you pre-ordered? If so then yes, that is some serious planning on their part.

They still haven't fixed the mouse lag!?!?

I tried the closed beta, and it was the same way...completely unplayable with the keyboard and mouse. It does indeed play much better with the gamepad, but they should fix the mouse issue. Crazy.

I stay away from pre-orders (learnt the hard way) so im not 100% sure myself.

Its just something my friend mentioned to me (he pre-orderd) that sounded horrible.

Personally the only reason i would ever want to pre-order a game was to get into the beta's (garenteed) so if they dont offer it then im really glad i didnt pre-order

    LOTRO?

Patchers are rather hard to program, I been in many betas with patcher problems (AoCs were worst but even Lotros had to be restarted a few times). They should have fixed it for the open beta but in many cases it takes several months after the game is released until it really works as it should.

Heck, EQ2s patcher still messes up at times (and the Station launcher too even if it is better).

Only really great patcher I seen is Guildwars, that is a masterpiece.

I hope you get it working :)

LOTRO was good, but it did have it's problems, even with server lag, disconnects, and random crashing.

Turbine worked hard to get the problems resolved as they came up though.

I guess my major problem is the fact that players can no longer register for a key.  At the very least, we should be able to register for open beta at any time, giving SE the ability to just pick from a list of potential testers.  Does that sound more like a closed beta to you? Yes, it sounds like a closed beta to me too, but by limiting the number of keys, it's pretty much a closed beta anyway.

The problem with the current system is that I don't understand how players will know when/if more keys will become available.  I would assume we will see at least one more round of beta key distribution before launch, but will it be at random or will SE announce it ahead of time.  If they do announce it ahead of time, how do they hope to avoid the mess that was last night?

Yeah man ArenaNet knows how to program some patching and streaming.  They really created a unique game and system backing it.  I will always go back to Guild Wars and will be playing Guild Wars 2 because of their pricing model and the great hybrid game they created.  I think it is really going to pay off with GW2.

Anyways yeah patchers can be rough.  There are alternatives to using their patcher.  You can simply dl the patches in any torrent program and be done with it.  The info is all over the place, but I can dig it up if you ask me nicely.  =D

Who are "we"? Every player interested in the game? If you are speaking of the pre-orders than I must ask again...did they assure you a key when you pre-ordered? Did they somehow indicate that you would be allowed to participate in the OB?

Not that it was that great at launch (its better now some), but APB had almost no server problems.. dont remember LOTRO having much either.

Why be disappointed when we knew it was going to be a flop from the start?

so you disapointed because open beta fails?

like it always have done since the rise of wow:P

  • djcincydjcincy Member UncommonPosts: 146

Unfortunatly I think you will find yourself even more disapointed when you actually get to play.  The game was not developed for the mmo community, It is made more for eastern cultures who may enjoy playing this on a console.  While all can agree the graphics look good and if you enjoy cutscenes you will have that, it does not make up for the complete lack of any successful mmo mechanics.  The entire system is clunky, there is no key binding, and mouse angles are just really bad.  I have played beta for the last couple of months and I find it to be a slap in the face.  Others may disagree but I only see minimal success.

suspected as much but i was hoping for it not to be true

Final Fantasy has given me endless hours of pleasure and the idea of one being online was really attractive for me

Their games where always polished and made me think "wow these japaneese are dam awesome and really know how to make a good game"

I think it was that kind of quality i was expecting for 14 online

I know, its beta and thats what beta's are for but surely they have had 1 beta already and should have ironed out at least the most common issues (like client installer, proper server load capacity for beta registration etc etc).

I just thought Square would be alot more jacked up and ready to handle even stuff they didnt see coming

FFXI has maintained 500k subs for years and years now with an even less intuitive system and on a console where you had to buy 100$ worth of periferals just to play it.

FFXIV will be hitting consoles in a time when they can fully support the game, and almost every console out there is online.  It is perfect timing.  MMO's on consoles are a lot of fun, and it isn't that bad at all if you just grab a controller or use the keyboard without the mouse.  It is just a bit of a learning curve.  I don't see any reason to take it so personally.

AWW, so  "we" is every gamer who wants to try this game from all the hype. Got it. I think they have done well in the OB process anyways by not opening the game to every player who wants to play the game. By offering keys they have control over problems that/have turned up thus, allowing them fixes along the way so that more people can get in.

Game was meant to be played on the PS3 just as FFXI was meant to be played on the PS2.

If you played FFXI, you probably should have figured out that the PC versions are just console ports, but "ZOMG TEH HIGHER RESOLUTIONS!!!!1!"
