I guess my major problem is the fact that players can no longer register for a key. At the very least, we should be able to register for open beta at any time, giving SE the ability to just pick from a list of potential testers. Does that sound more like a closed beta to you? Yes, it sounds like a closed beta to me too, but by limiting the number of keys, it's pretty much a closed beta anyway.
The problem with the current system is that I don't understand how players will know when/if more keys will become available. I would assume we will see at least one more round of beta key distribution before launch, but will it be at random or will SE announce it ahead of time. If they do announce it ahead of time, how do they hope to avoid the mess that was last night?
Who are "we"? Every player interested in the game? If you are speaking of the pre-orders than I must ask again...did they assure you a key when you pre-ordered? Did they somehow indicate that you would be allowed to participate in the OB?
"players who can no longer register for a key?"
AWW, so "we" is every gamer who wants to try this game from all the hype. Got it. I think they have done well in the OB process anyways by not opening the game to every player who wants to play the game. By offering keys they have control over problems that/have turned up thus, allowing them fixes along the way so that more people can get in.
If you're going to quote my post, comprehend what you're quoting. All I said was players should be allowed to register all any time in order to avoid a mass number of players flooding the beta site all at once.
I was lucky enough to get a key, but I can't get the game to download. After almost TWENTY hours of letting the crappy downloader run, I have 6% of the thing downloaded.
I really wish if they were going to take the torrent approach to patch distribution that they would have used an existing and completely functional torrent client. As it is I have no way of limiting my upload speed. So I can't let it run all day. I can only let it run at night when nobody else is using the network connection.
Definitely one of the more poorly executed open betas that I've seen. The biggest issue is that there is no way to even report these problems. Square Enix could apparently care less that these problems exist, as there is no way to communicate with them.
Played a very short amount. Graphically absolutely gorgeous. The bit that gets me is just how damn bad the mouse lag is, its actually unplayable. Next time I jump in i'll try with my 360 pad, i've heard that it plays alot better that way.
They still haven't fixed the mouse lag!?!?
I tried the closed beta, and it was the same way...completely unplayable with the keyboard and mouse. It does indeed play much better with the gamepad, but they should fix the mouse issue. Crazy.
They've actually said they won't be either. At least not before launch.
There's going to be a hell of a lot more "very disappointed" threads, once they actually get playing. For those saying its just beta, there's been nothing but problems throughout all testing stages, which SE has done very little to address. They even pulled testing numerious times. Its only a few weeks to go until launch, so there's zero chance they are going to fix the issues with this so called game.
Seriously, if you haven't got into open beta wait until there's official reviews. This is not a good game, or even close.
Unfortunatly I think you will find yourself even more disapointed when you actually get to play. The game was not developed for the mmo community, It is made more for eastern cultures who may enjoy playing this on a console. While all can agree the graphics look good and if you enjoy cutscenes you will have that, it does not make up for the complete lack of any successful mmo mechanics. The entire system is clunky, there is no key binding, and mouse angles are just really bad. I have played beta for the last couple of months and I find it to be a slap in the face. Others may disagree but I only see minimal success.
If you want to play WoW by all means keep doing it. Instead of being scared because something is difrent..
That would be nice to do, But i am not settling for second rate products anymore. but nice cookie cutter response. Like i said, others may feel differently, but honestly if you think this game will be a huge market success in the states, I think you will be disappointed in the end of the day.

FFXI has maintained 500k subs for years and years now with an even less intuitive system and on a console where you had to buy 100$ worth of periferals just to play it.
FFXIV will be hitting consoles in a time when they can fully support the game, and almost every console out there is online. It is perfect timing. MMO's on consoles are a lot of fun, and it isn't that bad at all if you just grab a controller or use the keyboard without the mouse. It is just a bit of a learning curve. I don't see any reason to take it so personally.
Its my opinion, as someone who has played MMO's for 14 years, that the genre was not made to be played on a console. Key word is my opinion. As far as your subscription numbers, thats a beautiful thing, if they have success and those numbers are correct, I am happy they are doing well. But for us mainstream MMO players, this is a niche that I do not fit into.

Search around a little. The patch torrent files are in your My docs->My Games->ffxiv folder. Dig around and you will find a folder called metainfo or metadata and the torrent files are in there. Load them up in any other torrent client. Then when dl'ed copy them into the patch folder that is in the same folder as the meta and run the patcher. You can completely bypass their patcher if it is going too slowly for you.
Love to see all the newly registered trolls with 1-3 posts. It is sad what happens at mmorpg.com with any game heading towards launch.
Sure you guys aren't alts...
I totally agree with you !! And the crap they write makes me sick to my stomach not only the ignorance shining thru the posts but also the lack of thinking behind it. Did they make new accounts because they got anger issues and wanna let out steam towards other people or are they just simply insecure?
They should try and help people insted of just blocking the entrance and throwing shit at them.

M8 have you played EQoa wich was on PS2. yes the first MMO on a console. I think alot of people did not seeing our playerbase in europe was a 1000 players at max. It worked extremely well ive enjoyed my time there very very much and unless you have you should withdraw that statement because you are missing out.

Just expressed my opinion on the game (or beta's of the game) thusfar and im not very happy
Iv never tried to force my opinions down peoples throats, just saying what I feel

I personally never post on here because I find it to be mostly a waste of time. Which this only proves my point. If someone has an opinion on a game, it is their opinion. By throwing a fit and calling people trolls isn't going to change the fact that for me this game was unsuccessful on every front. For you, it may be the best thing since ice cream, but some people don't like ice cream.

You would never know if you like icecream if you havent tried it, and maybe you never had the chance to try it because some moron would stand just beside the icecream man screaming " DONT BUY ICECREAM ITS REALLY CRAP!" cold and everything!!
Apparently Maintenance has been going on forever, I got the patch done, but whenever I log on it just says maintenance is currently going on, try again later... Is this happening to everyone?

I played the beta for 2 months ? I think my perspective is stronger than most.

I played the beta as well the game lacks alot but if you like 11 you should enjoy this one for a month or so.
No one has anything against a new user who posts legitimate info and opinions. The problem is in the past around every launch at MMORPG.com there are certain trolls that create numerous alts and troll the forums bumping their own posts with their alts. You may have registered here to slam the game and that is fine. No game is for everyone. Some will hate, some will love. The problem is you will get balled up in that group of obvious troll alts. It is just association and no way to avoid it.
This site used to be about discussing MMORPG's, and it was full of a lot of really cool people. Now it is dark, dreary, full of hate, trolls, and evil things. People barely even talk about the games in their respective forums anymore they just troll or promote. There are some great forums and forum goers here but they are overshadowed these days. It is sad.
Final Fantasy XIV has been in "Stress Testing" Mode since Mid-July.. But you kno what, they can stress test all they want, I don't think it's going to really do any good. Their primary business model is to have all nations - Asia, EU, US, etc - Under a single set of servers. Everyone shares a space, and people aren't broken up into respective countries. In the end, they'll probably establish about 20 to 30 servers - maybe. I dunno, that's just a guess.
But even I've played the old flute of 'Oh it's just stress test, stop your whining'. Indeed, I barked up that tree when I couldn't get in and play myself. Yet, my tune changed when I actually played the game, and saw what it really was - and I have to say that it's not all that good. Much of it is a vastly useless set of things that ultimately do not make the game better.
One of my biggest problems?
The Cut Scenes!
Sure the oceaning scene with you on the ship is great! It's voice acted out and everything, and has lots of pretty effects to. Yet all the following Cut Scenes are vastly "Eh" in scale. While they do feature some very nice looking models, camera work, and mouth movements that appear very cinematic.. It becomes very tedious because it makes you want to watch them.
Why is that bad? Because you need to be reading them instead. You must divert your eyes from the wonderful camera work to read the tiny little chat-window-text box which is so off to the side and small - you'll never see any of the cut scene. And if you don't read, you won't know what the hell is going on. It's very confusing... I mean.. do you want me to watch this? Or do you want me to read it? You give me MOUNDS of text to read and great cinematics.. I"M SO CONFUSED!!!
Seriously, you can't do both. It'll drive you crazy.

Things are not as centralized as they used to be. Every game has their own forum, guildsite, fansite, or community site where most of the true discussions and theorycrafting takes place. The general medium is inevitably saturated with uselessness and people out to do nothing but hate. Sure it sucks, but you have to know that it will going in, when deviating from ones own close knit community. It's just the way things are now with the huge influx of people to the genre.

This is an open beta, a stress test and it clearly hasn't worked. As a company they will address this and fix it.
People need to grow up!
