Silly Klingons, Content is for Feds!

Kingons are starting to get a little antsy:

They are just now (slow learners arent' they) figuring out that they are second rate citizens to Cryptic.  Some are finally waking up to the fact that it's federation or the welfare line.

    1. No Klingon Content

    2. Constant nerfing of Klingon vessels

    3. Stagnant PvP

    4. Lack of  Klingon PvE

    5. Poor Game mechanics

    6. No Interest in playing Feddy

    7. Cryptic constant catering to Feddy

    8. Recognition that this game had become a cheap money grab.

These are the reasons I left STO, I'll just hope that it fails miseribly at this point. I'd rather not wait 10 years for another attempt at a Star Trek MMO. I'd be happy if Blizzard ( owns Activision ) at least attempted another variation of SFC series. For all the issues SFC 3 had it was at least fun.

They seem a tad touchy over at Cryptic at the moment .

    Notice "Closed "

To my first post I should add , STO wasn't an MMO it was a single player , with everyone playing in one instance.

I don't understand why they don't just allow Federation and Klingon ships on both sides, I mean there were some Klingons that were loyal to the federation still, and there were also hijacked federation ships. I mean that way both sides can benefit from new ships they release- I mean if we have to pay for it, might as bloody well allow both sides to have it.

And then give each side its own Quest content so that they are unique in some way. I just think the way it is now is too cookie cutter- so eventually everyone will just be flying the "Best" ship they can get. Cryptic are so full of shit when they talk about Customization.. If I want to be flying a Miranda class against the Federation like Kahn.. I should be able to! /Rant

In other news, I bet Klingon content will suck just as much as Fed content. UGC might be the only thing going for the game.

    1. It does fit in with Lore, the Terrans use Federation ships :P they could join the Klingon Alliance.. this would make sense since the Terrans joined with the Klingons in SFC- whilst not true GR canon its still a form of ST canon.. and If I see any Hydrans or Lyrans in the game then why not Terrans joining the Klingons. I think you could get away with it by saying they were Terrans. Perfectly valid IMO.

    2. Since when did Lore even apply to this game anyway, they pretty much screwed with Canon by turning the Klingons into enemies again, it contradicts the years of peace that they had with the federation.. essentially saying a big fuck you to the efforts of Kirk and Picard in Klingon diplomacy.

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Terran_Empire

would be interesting to be a pimp like Archer lol- no need for Orions when you've got skimpy clothed Earth women ;)

    --

Unfortunately, Spock's reforms left the Empire unprepared to defend itself against the emerging threat of a united Klingon-Cardassian Alliance, which managed to conquer the entire Terran Empire, turning the Terrans themselves into a slave race.

    --

The actual canon version states that they are infact slaves to the "mirror" Klingon empire- would be interesting to see them in game.

I don't why anyone that's not a lifer would even still be playing Klingons with the total disrespect they've been shown.  Cryptic has time to make frickin formal wear for Feds and the Klingons still get crapped on.  I'm waiting for meager Klingon content they come up with to be in the c-store and watching the forums melt.  It does give me a warm fuzzy to see the lifers with the anti-Cryptic avatars.

It still cracks me up to every now and then see a CDF member say the Klingons were never meant to be a full faction, despite numerous youtube links of a video of Jack saying both factions would have full content, and them justifying the lack of Klingon content.

    from dstahl:

While I haven't had a chance to sit down with the character art team yet (been a busy week) ... here's what I have.

So after looking back through the April/May schedules - the earlier reference I can find for when we started working on the 200 day veteran rewards was around May 14 (this is all fuzzy to me because I was out on paternity leave near this time). Season 1.1 had just launched, and Season 1.2 development was in full swing and plans for Season 3 were well underway.

At that time - I can find no reference to a Klingon version of these rewards in any schedules so I can only assume that there was either a technical or scheduling reason for why there weren't included (plus the fact that a small percentage of the player base were playing their Klingons at that time).

This is the best data I have on why there is no Klingon 200 day veteran jacket.

Does that mean we can't make one? No - we can. But it means that we'll need to postpone some other updates from the schedule in order to get these in and it could take a few months (the character art team is for the most part working in a branch that isn't scheduled to go live until Novemberish)

So even though this was never planned, if (as these threads show) Klingon faction players are interested in wearing these jackets, then we are not against listening to feedback and making the decision to add them in.

Now that i have more details, next step is to sit down with the character art team producer and find out when this can be added to the schedule that makes sense. My guess is - you'll see it sometime this year, but not soon (so long as the reason we didn't make them was some crazy tech reason like- Klingons don't have the right kind of costume data configs)

Just promise me this - if we make them - you'll wear them and you'll love them.

And it looks like it will just be a coat.  The Klingons on the o-boards are begging for a single coat for a veteran reward.  One freaking coat and  they are looking at -maybe- 3 months IF they get it.

    un-freaking-believable.

I'll say it again.  STO is a third rate game made by a second rate development house.

It's a glowing example of whaqt Cryptic thinks of it's game . They consider it a single faction , single player game .  They wonder why no one plays the Klingon faction . Really ? Hey , at least they have the C-store for all the Feds ?

from dstahl (lin is in previious post)

Just to add a different perspective to this...

read- just to give cryptics excuse

Despite what was said pre-launch of the game, due to player feedback regarding the KDF being PVP only, we have added the following KDF PVE content

read- we would like you to ignore that we said klingons would be a fully fleshed out faction, and only listen to what we said aftter the story changed

    Star Cluster Missions

    Patrol missions

    Fleet Actions

    Equal Access to Borg/Unding content

    Equal Access to SFTs

A special enemy (Fek'ihri) and unique Episodes involving them

    Equal Access to weekly series

Plus I've even personally made daily patrols to help add more KDF content

So from my perspective - since launch - nearly every single bit of content has been made so that it can be both Fed and KDF PVE content. We've spent the extra dollars and manpower to do this because we listened and understand that some players want a PVE experience for KDF.

read- our dev team has been gutted and we cant finish the game to a release ready state

It has been said all along (and primarily by me) that it will be quite some time (if ever) before we could ever achieve the number of episodes the Feds have. And instead, using the limited resources I have at my disposal, I'm dumping all content efforts around new episodes into the Featured Series which everyone can play at any level.

So asking me to stop doing that and spend the next year making KDF content is extremely unrealistic. It isn't going to happen, even if I asked.

read- we dont plan on ever finishing the klingons to a release ready status

And even though we've added all the PVE content above, you'd think it would have moved the needle and more people would play Klingons, but they don't. The statistic are the same as they were to our pre-launch assumptions. Klingon fans are a small, very vocal and Star Trek loving minority amongst all Star Trek fans. They are possibly the most loving and the most caring about trek... but far more people want to play Federation than they want to play KDF, because for the majority of people - that is what they identified with.

read- because the klingons are only one quarter finished no one wants to play them, therefore there is no reason to finish them

Does that mean I'm going to stop making KDF content? Nope. I want to, but instead of working with me, I feel like people would rather flame away and say I'm not doing a thing about it. Really? Do you really think?

read- its not my fault i dont have the resources to finish the game (this is true, its not dstahls fault they didnt finish the game prior to launch, but that excuses dstahl... not cryptic as a company)

From my perspective - in my shoes - my content team has bent over backwards for the KDF and at this point - I'm starting to question if its worth it because people don't seem to care that we've done what we've done.

read- I accepted a job thats really hard and now i dont like it, i wish i could "take my ball and go home"

Nevertheless - we're going to keep on making Featured Episodes that will be playable by ALL factions and hopefuly in time, people will either embrace it, or they won't. It is the most effecient (and really - the only) way for me to get PVE content for the KDF without shutting down the updates for a year to make an equal amount of episodes.

read- this is what your getting, take it or leave it

Wish i could paint a happy Klingon picture for you.. i'm trying but I don't feel like I'm getting through....

read- i dont understand why people wont just accept us not fulfilling our promises.

my opinions of this garbage in red.

dstahl may not be to blame for the state of the klingon faction. but its laughable that he accepted the executive producer position and expects people to accept cryptic not fulfilling its promise's. its not realistic for the klingon faction to be finished, and as dstahl says.. its just not going to happen. but the klingongs not being finished is due to lack of manpower to do it. saying its because there is no interest is laughable. the reason there is no interest is because the faction has no content.

is this all dstahls fault-no, not personally

    is this cryptics fault-yes, absolutely

last time i checked that means its dstahl job to answer for it, and his whining that its not his fault just doesnt fly. hes the ep for the game and he accepted taking it over in the state it was in, and answering for all the unfulfilled promises cryptic had made.

saying that he doesnt have the manpower means cryptic never had any intention of finishing this game to release state and does not intend too any time soon.

long story short- dont worry guys they plan on getting it right on the next game.

I think I am going to stop following this game all together and just go play other games.  It is clear that this will never be the Star Trek game I had hoped for, and it is just a waste of time for me to care anymore about it.  To bad that this happened to one of my most favorite IP's, but it's happened and there is nothing to do about it.  All I have cared to say I have said.  To all of you that enjoy the game... Im glad you do.  To the ones that don't.... I feel your pain... but theres nothing for it now.

lol about the jacket, I could have had it done in 30 mins. Cryptic are so full of shit. Why the fuck would it take 3 months to develop a low poly jacket that will just be a texture change anyway. These guys completely suck at game development. God damn it.

Same here. FIrst it was wait until season one, then wait until season two. Now it's wait until season 3?  I don't know how much longer they can keep dangling carrots for people, then pulling them away at the last second and still have people hang around for the next go around. I don't know if Im more upset about STO or the fact that they're due to fuck up NWN in about 12 months.

Funny thing is that the majority of the cdf , don't know shit about computers or game design . It's funny the more they try to calm stuff the louder and more boisterious the forums get. It's true people like a good fight . They are beating up on Cryptic ( mainly because they deserve it ) now because the game is unfinished in their view. The difference between now and release is, the cdf has run out/bored of Fed content and want to do Klingon content, and there is none.  They've got 4 to 2 maxed out Feds, and want some other reason to be there.

Those douches at Cryptic have absolutely no intent to make the Klingon faction up to par with the rest of the game.

A quote from Stormshade who closed the thread of concern in the official forums:

"I definitely would love to see some great ideas of what we can do to continue to improve the Klingon Faction.

I am also in agreement with Sir James that this thread needs to end before any other accidents occur. Post your Ideas in the Klingon Forum, and I'll make sure they get seen tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Stormshade"

Good ideas have been put up in their forum since we first realized (at least when STO went live) exactly how lacking the KDF faction was.  Many others, including myself, put up ideas of things to add to the KDF as well as the overall game.

Improving PvP with controllable maps & locations.  Uniform items from Star Trek canon as well as references with show screenshots.  New Klingon ships and variants that other companies have done for Star Trek games, to give some inspiration of variety.

On and on.  The ideas have been posted.  Cryptic lackeys / employees have even dared to post on the old Klingon forum about how much they love the Klingons.  Sorry MOFOs, your actions (or more exactly, LACK of action) speak louder than your words.

We had LONG complained about how lacking the faction was at the beginning when this game came out, and the sad fact remains is that the same complaints are still valid.  The complaints, ideas for improvement, are all there in the forums, some even pretty well organized.  But Cryptic absolutely refuses to do anything with it.  Because all their efforts are either 1 of 3 things:

    A) Continue to pile attention on the Federation

    B) Continue to milk people via the C-Store

    C) Both A & B - Put Federation specific content into the C-Store.  Win-Win for Cryptic!

The distressing fact is that now that STO is around (still), my hopes of seeing a better company take a stab at a proper Star Trek MMORPG are dashed for years and years to come.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold."
