Where I stand ( an alpha testers view)

First off yes I know this is a beta still.
However it is an " open " beta, and I do use that term loosely as apprently SE does not understand the concept of " open " .
There are reasons you stages of beta test and test certain aspects of the game design and specific points in those stages.
SE has done many things with this entire beta process bassackwards.
Many of the launcher bugs and a few of the client bugs are bugs we saw as far back as Alpha. Some of them bugs we thought had been addressed in CB.
Hence why you test the OB client in CB before pushing it into OB stress. Sadly SE chose not to test the lastest client version so many of the non load related bugs are back to compound the load issues.
Next many viral marketers are repeating over and over its only a beta give them a chance. OK thats fine, however there are now 19 days left until the retail servers go live. This means that the client has to go Gold by the end of this week if it hasnt already. Burning, Packaging, Distribution and Shipping take a good deal of time. Therefore the client in your hands now is most likely the client you will be installing come the 22nd sans patches.. lots and lots and lots of patches... untested ( house tested ) patches. That is ok though don't worry the players that have paid the most money to have the CE will be in there on the 22nd screaming pulling thier hair out and testing these patches for them. Yeaaaaa
Lastly, the game looks amazing I agree the artwork that went into the game is beautiful and stunning, but there is so much more to a good mmo than the scenery. On most of these other parts of a good MMO SE has come up way short.
Now to be fair, at this time, come the 22nd I will still be one of those people that paid the top dollar to be in there testing that pile of patches I know is coming, however I sure am not happy about it considering many of the issues I bug reported in Alpha are still here in " Open " Beta.

Good to know that when my eyes go bad, I'll still be able to read some original posts.
In summary of what the original poster wrote:
He's not happy about some of the decisions Square-Enix has made during the beta process, including not fixing some bugs he reported and not releasing very much of the finished product to external beta testers.
He suspects the release version will be a buggy mess.
The game is pretty.
So there you have it.
But can you make cheese on toast in game thats all that really matters right.

If this is the case, why do you think they made the decision to launch it so soon? They could have waited a little longer in order to fix a few of these issues.
