So closed beta testers can't play open beta without registering for a new code?

I thought closed beta testers were included in this new phase. This is entirely strange. I registered my closed beta code and it said my account should stay active until September 19th, but then it says I'm not currently registered for an FFXIV account. I talked with tech support and they said they can't assist with beta support since beta is an unfinished product. I feel like this is a horrible way to reward testers who beta tested for several weeks and gave lots ( and i mean LOTS) of feedback.

Originally they said you wouldn't need to register again and then they came back and said sorry we meant to say you would need to. I suspect what really happened is they had way more people than they were expecting and they're trying anything they can to slow down the entry of new players into the beta while they upgrade their equipment.
It is what it is buddy. Go attempt to grab a key like everyone else. I was CB too and had to get a key.
*shrug* no sweat...I didn't feel offended.
Grab a key when you can and jump back in the fray!!

Yeah i'm a tad confused why SE did not give direct access to open beta not going to throw my toys out of the pram,but in the umpteen beta's i've done i can not remember haveing to apply for a CB i've already tested.
Usually it's common curtesy also gives the open beta their community back and any noob's would get help from a well established pool of CB testers,Also now trying to get a key but server is battered no doubt by former testers like me ironic is it not.
Still this has great potential so has a Vet Alpha/Beta tester and former Dark and Light player i definitely have the capacity to wait until the log-in/application servers have recovered from their meltdown

It wouldn't be so bad if I could actually get a key. I'm still getting the 'server busy' message whenever I attempt to login.
did you try the by pass link? it worked for me strait of the official link still down and played some last already.

They shut it down after they found out people were using it last night. The problem isn't with the beta application server. It's with the load handling of the game server. SE's announcement on the SEM site in the account management system says they are intentionlally restricting new keys until they handle issues with the game server.
That sucks sorry did not know or els would not have suggested it.
Yes actually, I finally got through only to find out they're not handing out any more keys. Oh well, guess I have to wait.
Yeah, but closed beta testers, unlike open beta tester wannabes, can actually log in through their closed beta tester site to fill out the app to get their key, so they're acutally at an advantage, or so I'd think.
