i ment fanbois really have no right to be hateful, because you are in fact, lesser fans than those of us who have played them since the very first one.
secondly, if they allowed so many applications per day, the servers wouldnt be bogged and everyone would be able to get in, just not all at once. you didnt understand my point, or didnt exert enough brainpower to try to understand what i was saying.
let 300 people in per hour, problem solved, it might take a while, but better than 50 people getting in and the rest stuck on error pages.
ah fair enough. probably misread your initial post during my frenzy of f5ing!!
agree that account management could have been sorted pre OB launch!

Despite how many they let in, the server would have been clogged up anyways. This happens on every anticipated game beta and will continue to happen. The MMO fan base is gigantic, and when you have thousands of people clamoring at once to get into the website for a key, there are bound to be hiccups.
The application process has nothing to do with this, you release new goody tidbits to the public, and you will get swarmed. The same thing happened when SWTOR released a bunch of info during E3. The website seemingly exploded, and they had to bring the forums down. It happens and it's not a big deal.
Also I don't get what having played Final Fantasy for a long time has to do with anyone wanting a beta key. I have played them since I was a kid, and I own nearly all of them in one form or another, but that does not make me any more entitled to get into the beta.

no, they would have no bandwidth clogging problems if they allowed a set number in at once. it would run smooth.
You can't keep people off a website unless you start blocking IP ranges. Any news of the open beta would have people flooding the site regardless seeing if they could possibly have a chance at getting in. If they sent out invites, then it would just be a continuation of the closed beta.
Theres really no way around this sort of thing, it happens, its the internet. You can't overly control the flow of people, not very well or for very long.

sigh i shouldnt have to explain this to you, you dont have to block ip ranges or anything
people are logging in to get their keys, so take 300 people that registered, send them the URL and then when they get their key, let 300 more in, its not that complicated, what are you 8.
And what is to stop 30000 people from attempting to log in to register? Nothing. As long as the notion of a possible key exist, people will try to log in en masse in an attempt (no matter how futile it may be) in order to obtain a key. It's the way the interwebz works. Unless Square physically blocked people from even going to the site in the first place, it would and will get flooded.
The same thing has happened countless times with countless games, and I can gurantee we will see similar results with SWTOR and Guild Wars 2. I figured most gamers would be used to this by now.
"Applications for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test have been temporarily suspended. Please wait until we are ready to accept new applications and then try again."
you just dont get it, they can keep everyone from trying to get a key by limiting access to the page by only sending a limited number of people the URL to get the keys from. i cant be any more clear, just trust me.
contest websites do it all the time, they trickle limited quantities of people to a secret website, and then if they have too many people try to access the page they have automated systems to change the URL then an automated system to send out new emails to the new site, you dont know what you are talking about.

it really doesnt matter if you got your key, i got mine and ran the game and its just suck downloading version file updates even though i have the latest, this is the worst front end loader app i've ever seen..
Man, did I ever screw the pooch. I thought when it said on the top I had to "log in" that htey wanted me to get my key through the account server, so spent the first hour (when keys may have actualy been available) trying to wrestle with the account system.
Oh well, maybe the beta application would have failed for me anyway. Plus, they're giving every indication that they intend to hand out more keys later.

Got my Key finally had to switch to Chrome and worked first time. Now actually getting to my account page to apply it is my next Quest in my Journal.

keep trying guys, I finally was able to log in and register my key, so that's one person down at least.
i got through and it says "check for an email" type message
Email has not yet come. I figure this is due to the madness, but just wondering if anyone else is in that boat.
Get all the way through, but no email.
Im stuck at the Server Error page now, can't seem to get past it...only one thing left to do more refreshing!
