For all of you in denial disagreeing with me I was also playing with 2 of my other friends. We rarely agree on anything and we were excited to play it but the game was just bad.
The controls and interface alone is gonna screw this game over. Maybe it will be better on PS3 but PC version is a joke. Also when my first quest I do is "kill 5 mushrooms" or whatever I get turned off. Been there, done that.
The big excuse around here seems to be that "its beta". Which is absurd. Its an open beta which means a release is soon and it will most likely be exactly as is.

To be honest ppl like you are just wasting beta keys when theres actually geniune people out there that would love to give it a dam good shot and not give up after a few hours.
As for the controls and interface i suggest you take a look at urself as yea its a bit tedious at first but once you get the hang of it its fine theres no issues with it what so ever.
With this hole "beta" crap its got nothing do to with it, its actually well polished for recent betas, the only 1 i think i can honeslty say that was a little better was "Aion" but that game just lacked in every possible way once you got into it.
To be honest summing the whole thing up all i can say is good riddance as FF14 really dosent need ppl like you.

HOLY FANBOI BATMAN!!!
Did you really just unload on that guy for "wasting" an open beta key????
Hey let me pose a question for you there, Mr. "FF14 really dosent need ppl like you"...
If there was "no issues with it what so ever", then why are so many people having an issue with it?

Face it, this game was not designed for the PC.
The reason we are posting in defense of the UI is not because we are uber fanbois it is becasue some of us like it and if we didn't post how we like it everyone who hadn't tried it will automatically assume it sucks to them. They won't know unless they try and they wont try it if they only see negative posts on it. I for one like the UI and don't have problems with it but i can see why others hate it.

I didn't call him a fanboi because he was defending the UI.
I'm pretty sure that most people can see obviously why I said that he was being a fanboi. He just basically unloaded on that guy for "wasting" an open beta key, and then told him that "FF14 really dosent need ppl like you". If that doesn't smack of fanboi, I don't know what does.
As far as defending the UI goes. You like the console control scheme... That's great. Wonderful for you.
What you seem to not understand is that the reason it sucks is that it is being forced on everyone else who wants to play the game, when it would be so easy for SE to have implemented a UI that catered to all.
There is no reason at all to force console-based controls on PC users, or vice-versa.
I prefer grinding to questing but there are so many damn people playing that it is nearly impossible to find anything that isnt already dead Not a complaint, glad so many people are enjoying the game.
The mouse works fine on my mid range PC. Dont know exactly what my graphics are set at, but the visuals are stunning!
Good amount of challenge. Not too much hand holding. Quest NPCs arent marked, although objectives are on the map. Plenty of things that can easily kill a whole group in the newbie areas.
Overall having a great time playing, and that's what its all about.
I will be pre-ordering CE when I get paid.
Whenever I see someone talking about hand-holding, I have to wonder...
Not that I see it as being much of a problem, but I don't see how this game holds anyone's hands less than any other. Every levequest I've had so far tells me exactly where to go, and even marks it on the map. This game even goes so far as to tell me which mob I have to kill. If I get a quest to kill 3x Fungi, then I can't just go and kill one of the Fungi I come across, I have to kill the one that is specifically marked for me. How that can be considered NOT to be hand-holding is beyond me.
On top of that, the themepark ratio of this game is very high. The paths to levequest goals are very tight and reminds me a lot of the way AoC ran on rails. So many invisible walls. When you have to look at the minimap to see if you can go somewhere, as opposed to simply looking at the environment, there is a problem.
Don't get me wrong. I'm still playing this game, despite my criticisms of it. It's an absolutely beautiful game, and has a lot going for it. But, right now, I see certain intentional parts of game design that are simply deal-breakers for me. I like the overall game enough to try to get past them, but I have doubts that I will.
You'll notice I said not "too much" hand holding The quest guidance system definitely does fall under hand holding, but there are plenty of other things that this game does not hold your hand with. For example:
Quest NPCs are not marked.
The turorial minimal.
The map is not overly detailed.
There are "dangerous" creatures in the newbie areas.
This leaves a fair amount for the player to learn on their own. You have to figure out how to do many things on your own, where to go, what you can and cant kill etc.
I have died several times and I am level 8. I have played full pvp games where I died less this far in.
I just started playing yesterday and I have to say that I'm highly impressed with the quality of the game to date. The cut scenes, the quest, the story.. all very good so far. The visuals are simply AMAZING. I have never seen an mmo that looked this damn good. The textures, the bump mapping, it's all outstanding. I'm getting used to the combat and must say that I enjoy it far better then 10 y/o's jumping around me in circles.
you can change keybinds easy took me awhile as well but u cant change a key to something already in use so wat i did i changed the keys to something that wasnt already binded like for camera left was J i changed it to F8 to free the J and placed it where i wanted it lol only way i could do it and it worked

A) im far from a FANBOI as i actually couldnt stand most of the FF series.
Most people having issues are either the client download or there rigs are not capable of running it.
C) This is perfectly fine for a PC.
Yeah... ya know... I think I will just let your previous statements speak for themselves... lol
