If you Alt+Tab away from FFXIV in fullscreen mode, the client will throw a shit fit and force you to quit.
I believe it's a bug. In FFXI, you can't even Alt+Tab and there's no window mode. It seems like they have not finished their virtual containment cell. :P
have account, have beta key, applied key to account, still cant download client from anywhere, even with utorrent, ports open, upload limited to be less then my cap so i can download, still cant break 10k download speed. ports are open..... lots of seeds, thousands of peers, wtf.

got a steady 200kb/s download from the SE patcher - still took a while but i couldn't get torrent to work (think it is a windows 7 thing) so i was happy enough
need to add - be patient - the patcher will slowly add seeds

This happend to me also but its because I got spitscreen with my LCD tv, and that I chosed wrong display. After I changed it worked fine.
Click "Select Service" from "Services and Options" on the left menu. Select "FINAL FANTASY XIV" from the services available and then "Add a service account." Enter the registration code you've been issued and proceed to the end of registration.
3. Log in to the FINAL FANTASY XIV tester site.

i have a beta test account i used my op key i evan made another account and it doesnt let u on that page cause says you arent subed to this game so clearly i have beta acess but it keeps giving me this crap i also re done another account with beta key incase my account was nerfd or sumit still get same is it just me or is this an actual fault? btw in my account management it says ff registerd ect

Got exact same issue here. Let's hope this will get resolved soon. Might be just that they are being overwhelmed with new registrations. So the registration system might be a bit swamped. Just give it some time.
I'll let you know when and if I get in in a little while.

I have been downloading for 8 hours and I am at 7.2% of the first of seven files. The upload is going much faster than the download, surprise surprise.... This is brutle, I hope by tomorrow morning I have better results.

Found the Fix for this they gave me the nother american link wich is https://dev-na.ffxiv.com when i should have been useing the EU link wich is https://dev-eu.ffxiv.com

1. Install a Bittorrent client such as uTorrent.
2. Start up the Beta client and see which patch file it's trying to download, exit out of the patcher.
3. Go to My Documents\My GamesFINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Versiondownloadsffxiv-betad96437e6metainfo
4. Double click on the .torrent patch file with the same name as the one the Square-Enix updater was trying to download.
5. Save that .patch file to DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Versiondownloadsffxiv-betad96437e6patch
6. After the torrent download finishes start up the beta client again.
7. ???
8. Play!
