So... I've put some 5 hours into the game by now. Started in Ul'dhan (I believe it was spelled).
Took me about 30 mins to get used to the control using mouse for direction and wasd + plus arrows for menu accession fast. The game hit me spot on having been avid FF player for ages including FFXI. I was very pleased with the graphics and the new class system (compared to FFXI) and the combat system is awesome, in my opinion.
One thing that struck me though in this game that I find highly gamebreaking is the LeviQuest system. The system itself is amazing in the way it works. The quests you get and the phasing done + own choice of difficulty depeding on party size is absolutely great, BUT...
At rank 1-9 you get 5 LeviQuests total. (I'm sticking to War & Discipline here, not talking crafting or harvesting)
Now these LeviQuests + the introduction Quest line took me from rank 1-7 and in skill from 1-4½, yielded 2 pieces of armor and totally I scored 35k gil.
At this point I thought to myself. Excellent concept, I'll look up more guilds (NPC guilds) and see what they can offer. Gladiator guild (my chosen class) told me I was a sprat and I should come back later. Go figure. Adventurer guild only had quests for lvl 10+ and even so - only 4 available as well. I began to question the concept and googled like mad.
To my great disappointment I found threads and guides stating that these LeviQuests, which already is few, have a 48 hour cooldown before they can be repeated, and all these guides shared a similar view on the games progression.
Grind mobs or start crafting to gain Physical ranks.
Now I ain't exactly the type that enjoy crafting, I avoid it at all costs. I think crafting is a great concept for those who love spending time on it, but for me - I want to be able to level up in game purely from questing/combat.
Sadly this ain't 1999 anymore where I could grind for 14 hours in Everquest without a single squeek. These days however I can't grind for 10 minutes without wanting to slit my wrist out of boredom. So...
My greatest concern with this jewel of a game (my opinion again), is that the progression system they have in place simply ain't going to work out unless they fix it up. I don't care if I have to do 20000 LeviQuests to level up, but don't make me kill 20000 mobs aimlessly.
Now - There are tons of players out there, and I've searched these forums and others too, and found no one with my problem. Am I the only experiencing this issue? Or have I overlooked some insane broader perspective of the game's progression system?
Anyone?

they something about friction quest and story line quest as well they havent put the whole thing in OB there save some stuff for retail
There are a lot of people who really want to play all aspects of this game arent in a rush. If you shoose to not play all of the game elements its not really anyone elses problem just yours.
This game is not about endgame an PvP , its about longevity variety and fun.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
Pardon me, but "my problem"? Not once did I mention any need to rush, nor did I mention endgame or pvp (which I hate for that matter, as much as I hate crafting).
All I said was that I can't believe the game design would REQUIRE that I do both to progress my character. It should be a choice whether you wanted to craft or not. Similar if people want to level a character purely from harvesting and crafting they should be able to do that without ever having to engage in combat. That is the concept of the Multiclass system.
I urge you to reread my post and actually try to use some of those braincells of yours (I assume you have some) to actually understand what I'm writing.
I'll repeat myself in case you don't want to reread my post and will probably just turn this into another typical MMORPG.com bashfest, "I never mentioned PvP or Endgame, nor did I state I wanted to rush the game. All I want is to be able to play a character to max level through one aspect, in this case for me Combat / Quests and not Crafting / Harvesting".
Dude,
You have described my experience exactly. And my thoughts.
I would love to play this game more but I can't figure out how! I've been wandering around aimlessly talking to every random NPC I find to hopes of getting some more Leves or even another story quest thing, and I found... nothing. -_- Trying to avoid the mob grind at all costs, and I too have zero interest in crafting at the moment.
I feel like this game has just a few "simple" design flaws that are holding it back from being way better. imo. So close, yet, so far.
Exactly. Glad someone else feels the same way as me. Cheers mate
This is kind of stupid of me, but I just thought of something. I've been playing the beta alone as none of my friends got in, so it never really dawned on me to try it...
Does anyone know if your 42hr cooldown timer would prevent you from joining your friends on their LeveQuests?
For example. A friend could join you for your LeveQuests, and then when you complete those you turn around and start doing your friends LeveQuests. Obviously it would cut XP but you could set it to a higher difficulty to offset that a little and you'd basically be getting in more LeveQuesting to fill in the void some.
I can't see it using your levequest up if you help a friend, that would be annoying.
Timer is seperate for all characters, so it shouldn't start your timer if you help a friend with theirs.
OB seems like they haven't implemented the timer anyways though, done 4 leves so far myself.
