Another Friday night playing mmorpg.com instead of gaming *sigh*

I remember back in the day, I would look forward all week to friday night and the epic battles that would rage in the frontiers for realm control. I remember staying up til sunrise just incase the hibs would try and launch 5 am assault (sneaky bastards)!

Fighting, dying, regrouping... rage quiting, and then logging back in 5 minutes later, lol!

Great times.

Sadly, I think they are also a lost time. This new generation of gamers will never know how epic it was to game like that. I'm sure they have their own epic moments, but I think they pale in comparison to the Golden Age of DAoC.

Go Mids!

Maybe he/she makes his/her posts early, right before heading out for the night?

Here I am, helping some random person gank someone else over their post count on the MMORPG forum on a Friday night.

Sigh.  Yeah, I kinda miss the days when a game could rev me up.  I don't think it's just the games that have changed, though.  And I'm oh so sick of questing!  It's like a freaking to-do list breathing down the back of my neck.

We still do all that in EVE, epic battles every night, round the clock.  Alliances have to be vigilent at all hours of the day or night.

I too am really just sick of the questing games. Unfortunately that doesn't leave you with many options for games to play.

Even though it's only a shadow of what it used to be, Daoc is still fun to play. The thing that keeps me away now is the lag issue. Not everyone seems to have them though , so it's not like it's ever gonna get looked at or fixed. Those of us who do have the lag, all have it at the same time though. The game runs fine for a few weeks then out of the blue you constantly have 2-3 second delay on everything you do. making RvR impossible. Maybe it's because of where we live or maybe it's how our connection gets routed to the game server. I dont know but it makes the game unplayable.

So rather than waiting in anticipation for the 5am assault. I am here bored, reading the boards.

    Go Hibs!

I remember late night gaming sessions trying so hard to get that 1 more level before passing out. Not many games now a days drive me to do that. I get tired i just sigh and log off then goto bed.

At least you guys are still managing to stay awake.  It's only 10 pm here and I'm already tired and want to sleep.  I guess that's what happens when you try and have a future....

I too used to stay up for DAoC stuff.  Sadly the game is just not what it used to be, and no other game has come close to recreating it.  I should go give EvE a try but I hardly have the time to play anything anymore, and the little time I have I spend out of the house.  Maybe my gaming days are just over.....image

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I've decided that my plea to developers and my battlecry from now on will be:  No required quests!  And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts.

Now that's enough to keep me off these forums on a Friday night.

Yeah i remember this also. Camping the AC in EQ1 for 40+ straight hours til i fell asleep in at my PC for the first time. Just to wake up a few hours later to see a mage killing him. "Noooooo!" Then the next weekend doing it all over again.

This was back when online gaming was new to me though and Madi kinda hinted that not only the games have changed. Those of us who have being playing these games for many years have a tendency to miss that nostalgia feeling. Devs are coming up with new ideas and systems for games but the overall feeling of the game remains somewhat the same. It's got a different feel and maybe a better feel to it, but not a new feel to it.

I think it would take something insanely innovative to bring back that nostalgia feeling. Like virtual goggles that make you think you are inside the game yourself! Of course by the time anything that innovative comes along , i probably wont beable to use it because it will interfere with my pacemaker. =p

Oh, to have a game good enough, capturing that initial DAOC magic enough, and with a playerbase enough for me to willingly occur wife aggro.

There's just nothing worth it right now. So I behave, saving my wife-aggro meter, for when I really need it.

Hopefully, May I use it before I forget what it is....

*was* - that's just it unfortunately.

It was great then (imo, the best mmorpg for the time it was launched) - played it a little recently and I was thinking to myself, "I enjoyed...this??"

But yes sir, I did at the time, many many hours worth!

If only... at least then we'd all have a game to play.
