Wheather you like the game or not, you should give them credit for holding a real OB where you dont have to go through all the mess to pre-order to get a key, like most games do now a days. I dont think SE is trying to swindle peoples money unlike I have seen with other developers recently, which show flashy action packed trailer, promise everything and deliver a 1/3rd of it.
If you dont like ffxiv thats fine and dandy everybody likes different things, just be happy that a nich crowd finally got their game. you wont see us over in another board complaining about everything being a wow clone with a different skin. We finally have something really different here.
The developers came straight out and said ffxiv's target audience was FFXI fans. That should have been a big ole warning sign to try this game with extreme caution if you didnt like XI. Theres no reason to hate on this game you knew what to expect. I just feel sorry for the XI fans who feel let down. I just have one thing to say to them, just try to stick with it maybe youll warm up to it. Its still early tho I need to spend some serious quality time with FFXIV to know if its the game that I will play for years like i did with ffxi.

a. I agree with your first part.
b. I haven't read a word of what the devs have said regarding the game. I didn't know they ever communicated anything other than 'here you go'.
Open beta to me means open to everyone, not just those lucky enough to get an "Open Beta" key o_0
yeah man. Right on. Everything you said is pretty damn accurate.
Anyone who hates on this, is obviously a fool, who wanted something entirely different then we all knew it was going to be. My biggest problem with the game, is the menus are slow to navigate (or so it seems.) Other than that, its FFXI, with necer graphics, smoother gameplay, and a whole new system of advancement and some classes.
PS. My GPU is a PoS, so I'm sort-of mad. I can't play this game on high like I do with most others. I won't have the money to upgrade this PC anytime soon either, so I'm waiting for GW2/TERA and we'll see how that goes.
I was going to preorder this game until I found out about the fatigue system. I do not want to play on servers with restricted game play, or a game which limits my game play in any way. Is this cheap type of system still going to be adding to the new final fantasy because I did play 11, and it was good for quite awhile until it got really boring, and this is a really big disappointment. I guess players can no longer loose xp on death in the new one to make up for the fatigue system?
Maybe check back in 3-5 months? I personally suspect the fatigue system is in place to cover up for lack of end-game content. and down the road when they patch it in i would be willing to bet the fatigue system dissapears.

I can see your point, but in most cases you only put down 5 bucks max to place a pre-order. With all the time spent trying to get the key, and now the slow download, I'd really rather have just paid the 5 bucks. Then I'd have my key, and either a pre-order box with a DVD, or they'd have paid a server to host a fast download.
STO was the last one I tested and it was only 1 dollar to pre-order, and avoid all the hassle.
I dunno toddze. People say that its integral to game design. I wouldnt know.

You are right, Luthor. This wasn't a real OB. I was in closed beta, but I still had to compete with everyone else for an open beta key and of course I was never able to get one as the system was always down when I had time to attemp to get one. Well, at least I was able to put in some time during CB.
Thats because most input they are giving is to the east not the western countries. Most game developers from that region do not usually communicate with us western folks. Heck, allot of the times they dont offer betas to the west.
On the support page on the North American alpha tasting and beta forums, not the open beta forums, it said any issues that needed to be solved (client, hardware issues, etc) would have to be solved through the beta tester community and that the developers were not going to be giving any feedback other then updates for beta schedule. I think the North American beta was mostly for stress testing servers and client.
My cousin and a long time friend from ffxi got a key today sometime. so there not done giving them out.

Thx for the info. I keep trying, but if I'm lucky enough to get past the server congestion message, it then tells me they suspended given out beta keys.
