Well the post also asked what i would like to see implimented. So i am going off topic of open rvr. My idea isn't really something needed right away. It has to do with how new players will experience the game once it ages a year or two.
From what i understand this game has 80 levels. So once this game is say a year old, you'll expect most players to be up in that range. This leaves all the lower zones sparsely populated. Meaning new players will have to do these dynamic events alone for the most part. If they even can be done alone. I find it hard to believe one person could kill that dragon from the demo that was in the 40's. Even if you could i just dont think you'd get the full experience of the event as it was intended. With no one manning the canons or protecting the envoy if they get destroyed.
A lot of games i have played have had this problem where the content was great fun at release when the zones were full of players. Then when the zones begin to empty the content isn't fun anymore and sometimes just ignored altogether. Things that devs have done to make this easier to new players are usually just upping the xp so you can just fly right up to the high levels. Other games put in a mentor system but they dont scale well and the person mentoring is so over powered they just zip the new player right through everything. So they get to see the content but again dont really get to experience it as intended. This can lead to new players get bored with the game rather quickly.
So i'd like to see a system put in that helps enhance a new players experience , rather than one that just speeds them through it. My idea is a bit rough but hey it's all i could come up with. Have the option of spawning a few npc's that emulate the classes in the game in some of the dynamic events. So long as you are the only one in the area. Implimenting something like this may be difficult i'm not sure. You can't really have the event area constantly scanning to see if only one person is there. Maybe put some kind of object that can be activated in the event area that then scans to see that yes only one person is there. If another person enters the event the object will then deactivate and the npcs will despawn.
Another way this might help is if you fall in battle. I really liked the fact that all players can revive you , but what if there are no other players there? Do you eventually get up? Do you respawn and have to run back? Maybe giving one of the npc's the ability to revive you could be a good idea.
Well thats my idea , although it could probably use a lot of professional polish to it. Maybe they can come up with a better one or maybe they have and just haven't announced it yet. I'd really like to see something though that lets new players experience the entire game and not just rushes them through, once the game ages a bit. I think you'll keep new players more interested that way.
One last thing i'd like to mention is the reward system. I dont know anything about the one in this game but in other games when you were the only one doing events you were only ever given a chance to get the minimum reward. This is something that can put new players off as well. Not having a chance to get decent rewards because your playing in a zone with no other people. I'm really hoping the system isn't like that in this game. Giving them a small random chance at the good stuff isn't a bad idea.
Ugh! Every time a new game comes down the pike, the "Open World PvP" lobby winds itself up. From what I've seen "Open World PvP" translates into a couple of bored high levels rolling into low level areas and killing everything in sight or large groups of the same players, often with lower level tagalongs, making a general nuisance of themselves in the same areas trying to provoke a response. Usually, the situation is the former.
What gets me is these people have servers (and in some cases, entire games) designed for this type of behavior, but there is something so needy in them that they must spread their "gospel" to the disinterested. What developers need to get hold of is that a game will survive quite well without PvP and the sociopathic, competitive culture that comes along with it. The trouble is, that without using other players as your content, developers have to come up with more things for people to do.
Guild Wars 2, with its focus on story, has wisely contained the mindset which can quickly ruin the game for most players into designated areas. If all you live for is a shallow experience of non-stop steamrolling other players, it shouldn't make any difference how much variation there is in PvP areas. Open World PvP? No thanks, I've seen enough.

It's not completely impossible what you think, but there are some things about the dynamic event system that you're forgetting. The world is constantly changing because of all the chained events, so the "newbie zones" (a funny way to call it xD ) are different from the other games in 3 aspects:
1- All the zones are always updating because of the chained events in order to call the interest from the players whatever their lvl is, because the chainned events will lead to big and epic fights wherever the zone is. IMO and idea: Probably that can even create "home citys" for the guilds to have their "Guild Hall".
2- There is one thing they called "sidekick system", which allow players the freedom to play together even if their friends are at a much higher (or lower) level, giving them a balance in stats (the only thing different is the diversity of skills you're capable of chosing, since higher lvls get more skills of course). But lower lvl can only join high lvl zones if they have been in that zone with another character of high lvl (to avoid spoillers they said).
3- The rewards of doing the events, whether they are in low lvl zones or high lvl zones, is the same in terms of progressing for the players that participate actively in it. The EXP might be different because of their lvls, but don't forget that the difference is really low since you spend almost the same time lvling 10-11 lvls as you do 79-80 lvls.
All this will fight HARD that little problem that previous mmorpgs have, don't you think??
Another way this might help is if you fall in battle. I really liked the fact that all players can revive you , but what if there are no other players there? Do you eventually get up? Do you respawn and have to run back? Maybe giving one of the npc's the ability to revive you could be a good idea.
You don't "fall in battle" like "im dead", you are "downed", or "defeated" in other words. You can't move but you're still able of beeing active, like attacking the one that is attacking you on the ground or use some special skills like Necro does. With this said, you're not revived, you are somewhat saved from that condition from other players. But that "downed state" has a little bar that decreases while time goes, specially if you're beeing attacked, and once that bar ends than you really are dead and will respawn at the last "save point" (don't know what to call it) you were.
Well thats my idea , although it could probably use a lot of professional polish to it. Maybe they can come up with a better one or maybe they have and just haven't announced it yet. I'd really like to see something though that lets new players experience the entire game and not just rushes them through, once the game ages a bit. Read what I said before. And there is more: you only get the reward from the quantity of actions you had in the even, so the ones that only kill steal (there is no "kill steal" in this game actually) or don't act that much in the event will be less rewarded; and I think there won't exist loot (like different gear with different stats) for the players, although I'm not shure about that.
1- Having different places in the world to have ou "Guild Hall", giving us the chance to chose a city for our "home".
2- While a player goes up in the hierarchy of the Guild, he is able to have his life easier in helping the Guild reputation (whether it needs rep points, guild lvl exp, or whatever), instead of giving nothing or reward the player himself like we see in other mmorpgs. This idea helps the guild look for someone that goes for the higher position in order to help the guild in all it's ways, instead of having a Guild Leader that just wants the in-game money and the best items and doesn't care for the guild members at all.

Thats a very stereotypical anti-pvp post. The reason we see a lot of pro-pvp posts on this website is because......
1. These are ONLINE games containing HUMAN BEINGS so its the perfect place for pvp
2. A lot of people like to compete with other human beings. Contrary to your stereotypical comment about all pvpers being "sociopaths" (which is really daft by the way), its actually competition and the desire to effect others that draws people. Ya know? Competition and interaction? That experience that drives people all around the world to excel at things in many areas of life? I love playing Dawn of War 2 against PEOPLE. Even on a limited selection of maps, its fun every time. Does that make me a sociopath?
3. Its generally more interesting than playing against the computer, as we have had many years of that from single player games. Why focus on repeating that experience so heavily in multiplayer games?
4. Contrary to what you seem to think, there are very few well made games that provide a decent pvp experience. The fact that your own experience of pvp in mmos is so incredibly negative is a testament to that. People make posts about wanting pvp in games because they want to see one that does it well and there really isnt much around to satisfy that craving. I would love to play a proper decent multiplayer mmo where I can log into a game and get involved in some great conflict in a fantasy world......where I can adventure and fight for my realm and make a difference. What options do I have? Darkfall? EvE? Ermm.....yeah great. I'm spoilt for choice.
Those "nasty evil horrible mean sociopathic" people that like to compete with others are not preaching to the disnterested. They are simply saying what they want. Whats wrong with having some more mmos that focus more on pvp? You wouldnt have to play them. There are plenty of non pvp options available for you to choose from.
So.. I didn't intend to make this thread am open world pvp discussion, so please stop commenting on that. The idea was to implement open world pvp for the purpose of having dynamic events where you can chose side and play against other players. This was the main focus of my idea and what I would really find interesting. But yeah, try to stay on topic and not go too much into details with fractions of an idea.
and why would you try to destoy your own alliance?
For fun. I like pvp.
that sounds like a very griefer thing to do :P
and they already plan to implement a similar feature into W v W, instead of centaurs attacking your base, other players are, and when your defending that supply caravan you dont get attacked by centaurs, you get attacked by other players. its basically a two sided event system. So when one play gets notified to defend a supply caravan, the other world player is asked to attack it
There's nothing practical I want that they are not already giving us. Crazy shit I can think of, but why bother mentioning stuff I know they are not doing. But my roommmate wants truly randomized loot, like Diablo....Sword of Fiery Awesomeness, or Sword of Chilly Awesomeness, with random stats, for example.
I personally HATE open world PvP. It makes no sense outside arena or any type of instanced PvP.
settle down, there is no open world pvp. No one is coming for your loots, however this gonna be a big sand box for pvp, but you don't have to go there.
I would like to see a system of having mobs in the WvWvW thing so I can level there just like if I was in PvE. I would also like if the mobs could be scaled down the more PC come in. Obvisouly, I want all my traits to be accessible in the mysts as well.
They've said you can level in WvW if you want (I think) - though it'll likely be off things like killing other players and completing pvp objectives.
I like open world pvp if it's done right, but I'm kind of glad they chose not to include it in GW2. It's either create a lot of potential for griefing with the dynamic event system or they'd have to take precautions against that - which might mean cordoning off events while they happen or something equally immersion-breaking.
also it doesnt follow with the lore; when several races enter a truce you dont see them killing each other off out side their capitol citys
I understand. But at the same time, it sounds like what they are trying to do will be a lot of fun. Some of my favorite PvP games had little to no lore and it was ok in that context. Games like Planetside and Team Fortress 2 come to mind. I am very excited about another MMO title coming out with more than two "factions". It's been a good while.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

many of the items seen in the lvl 40+ gameplay seem to have multiple stats(like 4 or 6 other than damage) (specifically wepons) Im not sure if these are randomly generated but if seems like a sure bet
What I would really like to see first of all is open world pvp (not sure if this is being implemented or not?). That means no safe spots other than major cities. Another thing I would like to see is pvp implemented in the dynamic events system so that for example if some players decide to defend a city against a horde of attacking npc's other players can then decide to team up with the npc's and attack the city. That would really be awesome and at the same time add some incentive to the open world pvp I suggested.
Thankfully, there will be no open-world PvP. I can't think of anything that would detract more from the game immersion than attempting to take part in a dynamic event, only to have a bunch of adolescent ganksters show up with the express purpose of causing a failure of said event.
On the other hand, I would like to see dynamic events taking place within the Mists so that everyytime you enter the fight, there could be some brand new objective or event taking place. Shaking up the WvW stuff with some unexpected chaotic event would be a great addition to the standard, linear PvP action. It sounds like there's going to be a whole lot going on at any one time, so I'm expecting something new and interesting from GW2's take on PvP.
I have a great idea, turn this game into a p2p game, then people will get serious.
I hope they don't do this (also I don't think they will). The main reason I want this game is because I can buy it once and play it as much as I like. Subs make it feel as though I'm renting the game, it's not really mine. Also, being P2P doesn't mean you getting a better game, there are other threads here about that topic though.
I have a great idea, turn this game into a p2p game, then people will get serious.
What do you mean "people will get serious?". Loads of people are more serious about and interested in this game than any other shitty rip-off P2P game.
That has to be the most retarded thing said in this thread. MMOs shouldnt have subs attached to them. They should be treated like any other game. Like another person above me said, it will be great to simply buy a game and then play it at my leisure. Players should not have to rent a game they have already purchased.
ArenaNet are going to prove this by not having a subscription fee attached to their game. This will highlight the greed of other companies and cause people to ask the question "Where is my sub fee going? ArenaNet doesnt need one so why do you?".
Subscriptions do NOT guarantee quality. Take a look at all the other mmos that have been released for a long time. Where are these super high quality games that subscription fees have brought about? Companies should make their money through expansions like ArenaNet do. Players pay for content when they are ready to experience it. Its fair, its simple and it makes sense.
Oh and before anyone says "well subscriptions arent very expensive.....its the price of renting a bunch of movies each month blah blah blah", well that works both ways. If they arent a lot of money then those companies can do fine without them.
One feature I would love to see in gw2 is the "appearance slots" feature. They have it in EQ2 and that way noone ever have to look like anyone else.. It gives u so many ways to costumize your characters appearance it should be a given in any mmorpg imo...

I've been waiting and hoping for them to introduce this game feature since i started following this game. I want this in the game VERY badly.
And yes, you'd think that most MMORPG's would do this by now, but many mainstream ones don't even try it. It would have kept me playing WoW alot longer. Look at all of the gear options WoW gives you, and now imagine it with the appearance slot feature. Millions upon millions of combinations. You'd finally be able to be unique and still look cool at the same time. Many of the WoW players have been wining for that since the game launched, and they still won't give it to them. Not even in Cataclysm. Shame.
Either way, something tells me that Arenanet is going to have a feature in this game that is somewhat similar to the idea. I just hope that it doesn't involve squeezing me dry in the online shop...that will really piss me off.

I am too lazy to look up the video - I think it's in that 50 minute ranger one, but they've already show characters experimenting with armor dyes. It looks like you can customize up to 3 colors on any piece of clothing/armor freely (it looked like they didn't even have to actually buy any dye, just went into the window and changed colors - but who knows how it'll be at launch).
I could have sworn I heard something about appearance slots too, but I can't say anything for sure on that.
Like EQ2 had /pizza? And WoW had /panda for a short time I think, where a little baby panda came up to you and took your Panda Express (Chinese fast food) order.

I say /Chipotle for GW2....
no, nonononnonononononononononono
it should be pizza, cuz gamers eat pizza and they deliver pizza,
it would be a GW2 delivery van that give you their Charironi pizza

Doing so would frustrate the entire Guild Wars fanbase who were told it would be b2p. And Anet is all about the players.

I could have sworn I heard something about appearance slots too, but I can't say anything for sure on that.
this game... it needs.... a order pizza button.
