In lieu of the few posts that have been made in which people clearly dont understand the point of beta, I will give my positive outlook of the game:
Graphics:
Freaking awesome. Game looks so real in terms of grass, rocks, the way the clous look, sun hits buildings (bloom is nice), etc. I probably spent a good portion of my fishing (in between bites) looking and enjoying the scenery.
Character customization:
This was really good in my books. I loved how I was able to make my lalafell look happy or serious by simple changes to his face. The hair looks great and overall im pleased in how much more customization there is say.. vs ffxi. Class customization is great too, being able to put your stats into the one ya want as well as put abilities from other classes you have learned into your current skill set up really makes for a unique character.
Crafting/gathering:
In my humble opinion its the best crafting ive seen. Not only is it fun and interactive but it seems to have that interactive element so people can't simply bot thier way through the game. And that's a plus in my book. Fishing was fun as I had to wait for the bite then hook, then reel it in the right direction. Awesome. And a sidenote, I love how your armor has durability. It makes it better for the crafters and the player economy in the long run. I know friends who were crafters in ffxi and got bored becuase the market was simply way too flooded with thier item becuase it never decayed. Good job se.
Combat:
Loving it. I like the fact i can now spam a couple of moves and then use another when i have enough tp. Much more active than ffxi was imho and pretty fast. I also like the fact that abilities ya learn can be used as you play another class. Overall great combat. Ha, and i know some of you out there that played ffxi will agree to this. I LOVE how you can keep your weapons out. You dont have to kill something, wait for the ability to take them out again then go at it again. Nope! not here... keep them out and keep on kickin some.
EXP:
I also like the fact that you can get regular exp in addition to that classes exp when you craft. It keeps you progressing even though your not a combat class. And imho, is an awesome idea as some may simply be a pure crafter gatherer type. Heck, the non combat classes even get some combat moves (check the abilities).
Anyway, Thats my take on the game so far. I can play and switch between crafting/gathering/fighting and still have a good time. Sure the game has a few issues, but i can easily see square enix fixing these in the next couple of weeks.

WOOT WOOT....+10000000 Lol. I'm right there with ya man. I haven't tried my hand at crafting yet but I plan on it today. I was worried about the combat reading everything about how slow paced it is.....uh no it isn't. If you don't know what you're doing it can be slow paced. You don't have to wait for your endurance bar to be full( it's a constant refill during battle) to use abilities, just try not to use it up before it refreshes. LOVE making new characters. You choose their birthday, their astrological sign.
I'm enjoying it so far, I haven't bothered much with the main quest yet, but combat leveling and crafting seem enjoyable so far at 10
Same here man! This mmo is great! And a good reason to upgrade to a core i7 gtx 460 sli rig so I can take advantage fo the physx etc. It runs ok on my Q9300 Single GTX 260 216 rig.
Yeah. the astrological sign is pretty cool(especially when you play a lalafell dunesfolk :P as that symbol is on your head). And i can't shake the feeling SE put something cool in the game to go along with them. You know... like how they made crafting a certian direction in ffxi mean something (as facing the proper elemental star had different effects). But who knows.
But yeah definately try the crafting out. Or the gathering.
