So much of the issues I see being QQ'd all over FF14 forums I see being resolved by tweeking which is required in any new MMO. Others, like the player driven economy and the transportation system are integral to game design and cannot be fully understood in a beta. Also experience provided from mobs, mob strength and the amount of mobs available at any given time would logically be something they decide based on the info they are going to get from this OB and stress testing, not to mention something they would continue to tweek as time goes on. I understand how these things could be gamebreaking if this were sometime after release, but you are playing a beta so its "beta-breaking" and the idea is to tell SE whats making the beta a deal breaker.
Im apprehensive about many of the things that people are talking about, expressly lag and mob quantities which is something they need to balance with guildleves, as the whole idea of instanced mob guildleves(from someone who has read every press release from SE) was to combat mob camping and fighting over mobs that was prevalent in ff11. Thats why they went with guildleves. So what they are going to decide to do now is; decrease the 48 hour restart for guildleves, increase the amount of guildeves you can do per 48 hours, or increase the amount of mobs that roam. I think the info they get from OB will play into their decisions.
I do think that like so many of these beta testers; mechanics are not being fullly understood in a beta product and their issues are being QQ'd all over forums and bugsand lag are not being given the benefit of the doubt, all of which happens apparently to every new game. But I hardly think such preemptive disapointment is mature or deserving of "kudos". I think apprehension makes sense, and that can be resolved upon playing of a release of a full version.
But hey don't let me stop you from deciding based on a beta. Its your wallet/life.
So what I am saying is; I think for people who say they were "really looking forward to this game" and then talk about things that can logically be resolved by release or even afterwards, it really does not make sense for them to say the beta has disapointed them in these areas and they are no longer going to play. Ultimately this is a troll. A person who actually wanted to play would not be discouraged by lag, bugs, mob population issues, experience gain, amounts of quests, confusion with quest dialogue and command delays. These are things that are expected to be worked on and tweeked in any new game but the beta-trolls will come out in full force and critique them anyways and make statements about the game.

You could consider it unfair that just released games are compared to games that have been on the market for a long time, but today not many will stick around a game, waiting several months for certain issues to be fixed. So that's why so many complain about stuff like "lag, bugs, mob population issues, experience gain, amounts of quests, confusion with quest dialogue and command delays". Some could say they expect better quality than they did in the old days.
That might explain why people who actually wanted to play this game are disappointed.
You missed my last sentence. Its a beta, all thoe things are expected to be worked on before release. And yet we are hearing complaints about them over and over.
You don't hear people taking on the games lore, graphics, crafting system and the rest of the plethera of depth. Its mostly things that are expected to be resolved before release. There is no benefit of the doubt from this open beta from people who have made decisions based on it, which is interesting, but ultimately their loss.

My biggest deterrent and what will probably stop me short of buying this is the amount of technical issues it still has only 3 weeks away from release. Game won't stay running for more then 30 minutes when it does run its beautiful i love the graphics and setting. And all the issues with the patching system what happened to the good ol days of the game companies having a patching server rather then this p2p crap.
Think they don't put much faith in their concerns being resolved until it goes live, because it's like 3 weeks from release and probably have been burnt before by such promises from other MMO devs. Talking about the ones that actually are interested in the game of course, not the "game sux because I say so" type.
I would point out that the control system is purposefully implemented, as is, and I don't see them even attempting to try to change it prior to release. This is NOT a beta issue. They've developed a game on the PC with the clear intent to force a console control scheme, while borking traditional PC controls to the point of frustration.
NEEDLESSLY.
The console controls could easily remain as they are without borking the PC control functionality.
If I wanted to play a console game, I could simply buy a console.
My thoughts? Isn't interesting that people who disagree with your assessment are considered trolls (whether they are actually trolling or not), and those that agree with your assessment are "reality based" or some equivalent?
Just a thought... :-)
Troll
This complaint is uber valid. :P People hated ff11's controlls and people will hate his games. No worries, fume away, you have a right.
Of course, some people will give'er a try with the keyboard only- and let me tell you, it works really great. Drop the mouse. Or try a controller if you like.
But if you dont want to thats cool. But, I never did say UI in my thread.

I don't think that today's mmorpg gamer cares about the hows and whys of "alpha/beta/release" related issues. They for the most part are not willing to wait, especially for certain issues such as lag. Why should they wait for the problems to be fixed? As good consumers, they certainly should be choosey of whatever products they are considering.
Remember, you only have one chance to make a first impression. Excuses are not a good way to make a first impression. Companies need to significantly raise the bar if they expect to do well in this business.
/sigh
I really dont think SE thinks of this open beta they way that NA gamers do, not the exact same way at least.

My thoughts? You don't seem to know what trolling is.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
/sigh As I am constantly being told on these forums. Such things are relative, and therefore open to debate on these forums where free speech reigns supreme.

The concept of trolling is not really relative. A troll is not someone who disagrees with you. It's someone who makes posts with a sole reason of invoking an emotional response, mostly negative.
Someone critical of a game is not trolling. On the other hand, if someone is being offensive, derogatory and disruptive, chances are that they are trolling.
In other words, if I say "the controls and the UI need a lot of work," I'm not being a troll.
Now, if I say "everyone who is critical of this game is a troll..." well you get the point.
Everything will be fixed with that miracle patch.
That the miracle patch will take six years to materialize is however another story.
All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
Heh...it's not even North American's (although we're the worst of the bunch) The majority of gamers these days think an Open beta is synonymous with a free trial - and have come to feel it's their RIGHT to be able to participate in it - and then spout drivel about anything they don't like as if their opinion is the ONLY one that matters
Exactly Elian, well said.

And it is the continual use of "open betas" as marketing tools by developers that caused that feeling, not the players.
-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.-
-And on the 8th day, man created God.-
This.
In the last few years Open Beta has become more of a marketing ploy than an actual beta phase. It is used to sell pre orders, Collectors Editions, Life Time subscriptions, etc and usually ends up only lasting less than 2 weeks in most cases with next to no actual fixes being applied (almost always being the point in developement when we start hearing the ever famous "Sometime after launch" line...)
There have even been developers who have stated that Open Beta is really just a preview of the game with the added benefit of having people slamming the servers.
So you can't really blame the current perception gamers have on the gamers themselves. Blame the developers and marketing people.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
The miracle patch will be released when issues have been identified.
Issues will be identified after the miracle patch is released.
