Has anyone been able to get a group yet?

It feels like I'm playing a Single Player game and the world has tons of invisible walls  and if you look at the map it's just loads of corridors. Even when it's trying to give you the impression of a wide open world because the map looks wide, because you're stuck to the ground it's just hidden corridors. So I can't find any quests, I did some guild things but they were just more grinding and then having to run back to a person and the problem is they run out so fast. Then you're left running around for ages wondering what to do and where to go because there is no indication on any of the NPCs and the maps make no sense. I have yet to work out how to zoom out on the map to see where I want to go.

So there is nothing to do but grind, only problem is there are so many other people about that all the mob spots are taken. So I'm asking to group up but no one ever talks and I can't find any system in the game to make forming a group easy. The problem is I can't see any reason to group and there isn't any quests and I can't find any group dungeons or anything.

Frigging nothing makes any sense!

If you play any other MMO things are intuitive and make perfect sense of where things are and what to do. I'm not saying a sense of mystery and exploration arn't important because the first times I played SWG or WoW I felt lost in giant worlds. However the UI made sense and the maps displayed everything properly and you could get into groups easy.

FF14 just feels like a linear single player game with no content and a UI made for console, maybe this is why no one is grouping.

I feel exactly the same way. I shout a question, not a single response. I don't think you can manipulate the map. And the UI is everyones biggest gripe.

For a suposed next gen MMO it lacks a lot of features which were established in the previous generations of MMOs. I would like to give SE credit because it's not easy making a game but it still feels like everyone who helped make this game did it blindfolded. What I mean is im surprised they didn't do researche in what makes MMOs streamlined. I applaud the innovation, the MMO market definitely needs it, but they overlooked some general things that make an MMO easy to play, and when I say play I mean Controls and UI, im not talking about difficulty so don't accuse me of wanting a WoW clone.

In the end it feels like they forgot to ask people how they like to manipulate their game.

Yeah this isn't about difficulty because the game isn't hard from what I've seen so far. It's just about being intuitive and things making sense, not making things annoying to use because there are things that came since which work so much better.

Actually XIV is very non linear. The problem with OB is that people just tend to dip their toes in and as a result very little player interaction occurs. When the actual game launches players will start to really play, and then you will see grouping starting to occur.

Welcome to almost every single MMO released in the last 5 years.

I agree with the above poster.  There's a pretty good chance that most of the people in the game right now aren't in to play the game so much as they're in it to test the waters, learn the controls and get a basic feel for things.  I've said this in another post but I'll do a quick repeat here.

If you went into this game expecting it to be easy and free of the "grind" then you're in the wrong place.  FFXIV, like XI before it will be a steep learning curve that caters to people who don't mind exp farming with people and trying to figure out the ins and outs of EVERYTHING by themselves first.  There's a million games out there with lovely golden ! and ? and GPS maps with convenient x, y, coordinates so that you can locate precisely what you need and return it and repeat.  In ffxiv it's more like grab a leve or two, do them alone or with friends (I reccomend friends it's more fun) then find a good spot or wander about with said friends and hunt down some beasties and enjoy some conversation and learn things about the game as you go.

Grouping IS possible in the beta, it's definitely there.  However because it is open beta the vast majority of people in it aren't interested in showing you just how much of a noob they are (because they don't really realize how much of a noob we all are) and so are doing much the same as you, trying to experience the feel of the game as best they can, by themselves.

Release will be a horse of a different color.  Same game, more groups.

I got a group with a few others to test out the difficulty's on leves, but not really for grinding afterwards.

Most people aren't really taking their characters progression seriously right now, characters are going to be wiped once beta ends. Mainly just testing out classes/crafting/harvesting, etc.
