As Lord of the Rings sits on the edge of its free to play iteration, developers have released a retrospective look at the Lone Lands in the form of several new screenshots. Turbine has also sent out a few new screens from the Defense of the Prancing Pony, Necromancer's Gate, Survival in the Barrow Downs and Stand at Amon Sul instances. Check them out in our Lord of the Rings gallery.

I've been playing LotRO since 2007, there's been ups and downs but the game keeps getting better!  If you haven't played it before I hope you'll give it a try.

I agree with UndeadKing. While Lotro has had it's ups and downs I'm really hoping to see some new life in the game with launch of f2p.

The wife and I are lifetime members and have been since the game came out in 2007. We're looking forward to seeing old friends come back because of this change.

Its in an "open/closed" kind of beta right now, while its still invite only but there have been a number of competitions on various sites where you could win a beta key. I got mine of this site a few weeks ago.

I have been a life time subscriber with 2 accounts since it came out, TBH it’s the same game as its always been with the LOTRO store plugged in now. There have been some upgrades with regards to instancing and making a lot of those instances scalable, a new zone and loot. I hope that the F2P will bring more players in and boosting the social/grouping aspect of the game more alive which is where LOTRO's strong point is.
