Or you could be in my situation where the mid-range computer your built last year can't run FFXIV at an acceptable level in crowded areas (and not very well even in less dense areas, despite the settings), even though the benchmark test proved otherwise. I'm really disappointed with the optimization in FFXIV. I mean, it's a graphically attractive game, but honestly, there are far more graphically intensive games (AoC, EQ2, and Vanguard just to name a few) that have all ran just about flawless for me at at least close to the max settings. I just can't figure out why FFXIV is such a resource hog. I've heard that there were some compatibility issues with Nvidia cards, but I'd assume they have that all ironed out by now. My rigs just simply not beefy enough it would seem.
That being the case, I'm glad I decided to wait until the OB before pre-ordering - as it stands now, I'll probably just get the FFXI deal going on over at Steam (the game, plus 4 expansions and a free month for 10 bucks, not a bad deal). Speaking of which, anyone playing on an active server with a newbie friendly link-shell recruiting? I was thinking Asura, but I don't mind going somewhere else as long as there's a pretty healthy population.

Plus three mini-expansions--you get the Crystalline Prophecy, Moogle Kupo d'Etat and Shantotto Ascension expansions as well.
Same problem here. My computer is unable to run FFXIV and I never really got into FF11 due to money reasons and inability to find a good linkshell to join. But now, I am myself wanting to come back to FF11 and play the whole game.
I just started a little over 2 weeks ago on Bahamut server, see quite a few lower level people roaming around still. Other servers should be about the same. Granted when FFXIV launches there will be somewhat of an exodus, but a lot of the people leaving will still be playing FFXI as well, and I guarentee a good few of them will lose interest in FFXIV quickly.
Sure the new factor will entce people for a while, and the casual nature will hold some interest, but after a while it will just be too casual, and the WoW factor will kick in, and a lot of people will quit and return to FFXI. The casual style of FFXIV might garner attention from a lot of people, but most FFXI gamers will come home and lose interest.

Obviously you haven't palyed the FF XIV beta. There's nothing casual about that game, particularly after level 10.
