The era of great wait is upon us...

... And the question is, how will you spend your time while waiting?!

Many nice mmos are showing up 2011. My two personal favourites are GW2 and Rift. Can't wait!

What are you guys playing at the moment? My two latest mmos that I play are Fallen Earth and Eve online. I like them both, although when any of the two mentioned earlier gets released its bye bye to Eve and FE. I think .:P

Now, I can't seem to figure out which one of FE and Eve I will stick with! Eve seems like such a big... investment, and to play it only to know that I'll probably stop playing it next year seems a little weird.

So help me out guys!

a)WHAT are you playing, and WHY?!

b) Fallen Earth or Eve while I wait?! What would YOU pick and why? =)

PS. I have only recently joined a clan/corp in both games, so I have no strong attachment whatsoever to any of them. Yet.

Adios !

I'm not playing any mmos at the moment. I play Guild Wars from time to time but that's about it. Right now I play mostly single player games. I might play AoC again but the expansion grind really turned me off from it (even if I do love the combat).

I am playing a bit of EQ2, mostly because my buddies play it and my Dirge is one of the guilds best chars so they need me at times. And it is nice to do something with my friends but I don't PUG or solo anymore and play just occasionally.

I think I vote Eve, it is less buggy and have some interesting things. Fallen earth is one of those games with great potential but needs a lot of work still.

Personally will I buy CIV V as soon as it get out and enjoy some classic strategy for a while, I think it will be even more fun if I havn't played so much MMOs in a while when the bunch come out. I have however thought about FF XIV, not impossible if it becomes a cold winter or my job fires me when we lose 30% of our customers soon, always good to have a backup plan. ;)

Id on't think any of the MMOs we know about will be any good.

The next great MMO will be done by Blizzard most likely.

Well i've been waiting since 2000, damn you Trammel...

    Playing: Starcraft II.
Played: Tibia, Ragnarok Online, Ultima Online, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft.
Wanna play: Guild Wars 2, SW:TOR, Final Fantasy XIV, Diablo III.

I think I am in a similar boat. I am waiting for Guild Wars 2 with uncomfortable anticipation ^^.

I am playing quite alot of Guild Wars one at the moment trying to fill in some gaps I never finished. Also the Guild Wars Beyond content is quite good and quite challenging too definitely worth playing through.

Alot of my friends have gone back to play WoW but I am not a fan of that game. I am not sure I will play another MMO until GW2 I just keep thinking how much better it will be than any current offerings. I know I am putting alot of faith in GW2 but there we go I suppose.

I don't see how the upcoming MMOs are better than what we already have.

I think there is alot of MMOs out now that will be much better than the new MMOs will be at launch.

But I guess people here are all about hype and the next shiny thing!

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

TBH, i played both those games FE and EVE at the suggestion of somebody else, and found them both to be extremely lacking and boring. So I wouldn't play either one of them, but I guess Eve???? I dunno man they are both equally boring, but at least eve could be a good space game while the other is just a terrible game no matter what way you look at it.

After playing mmos for more than a decade, I am taking an extended break.  Mostly I am reading these days.  I just can't take another connect the dots to "end game" instance lobby for ez epics WoW knock off.  Hopefully something better will come along.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Currently playing Eve, WoW and AoC... only problem is, havent actually seen any games on the horizon that will change this, so its more a case of, carry on as usual image

The wait was much worse at the beginning of the year when STO launched and it was the worst MMO I had ever played. Since then I've been playing WoW and EQ2 and some single player games. This month I've gotten hooked on Guild Wars in prep for GW2 and will be heading back into LOTRO as well as playing FFXIV well into next year. So the wait, for me, is over on the 22nd when I step into Eorzia.

Isn't guildwars a single player game anyways :3

Hopefully they don't discourage group play in GW2.

No, Guild Wars 1 is a cooperative online role playing game. And by the way it seems you know nothing/very little about GW2 also.

Having played FE and EVE both to some fair extent, I'd go where your social circle is. Lacking that, and truly comparing game against game - Eve is deeper and has more endgame. Fallen Earth is more my personal style, but you'll run out of things to do.

I'm not playing anything right now, but I'd play something if I found something worthy of some wasted time. Nothing that I'm aware of right now is.

I'm not really playing anything now.  I'll log into GW now and then and play for an hour or two, but nothing regularly and I honestly don't miss it that much.  I'm going to wait for GW2 and beyond that, I see nothing on the horizon that I'm even remotely interested in.

That's not a big deal to me either.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
    Now Playing: None
    Hope: None

I frequently search for an mmo to fill my time with, whether client p2p, browser f2p, whatever. I've tried a ridiculous number of them, but I'm still searching.

  • gurugeorgegurugeorge Member UncommonPosts: 481

I'm waiting for SWTOR, but GW2 also looks interesting.

Since a 3 year addiction to City of Heroes fizzled out, I've been monthly-rotating between a few, including FE and EVE, but also LOTRO, CO, AoC, DDO, Vanguard and latterly CoX again.

FE was a surprise.  I wasn't expecting much (just trying out the free trial), but I found myself instantly gripped by it.  In some ways it's almost more of a spiritual successor to the Fallout heritage than Fallout 3 was (though F3 was a great game).  The devs seem to be active and responsive, despite a recent cut in numbers - I dunno, I think FE may creep up on people, like EVE did.

EVE, atm, I just keep subbed while I can afford it atm, alongside my "main" MMO, and just dabble in it, meanwhile raising skills.  It's almost more exciting playing the skill queue than the game itself, sometimes (but that varies - get in a good guild and the game makes more sense, I'm just not in one atm).

The games do share some element of sandboxiness, or at least a sandboxy feel.

But FE's PvE is miles ahead of EVE's, that's for sure, so i guess that should tip your decision - whether good PvE is important to you or not.  FE's quests are mostly very well written, funny, quirky, poignant, etc., and give a solid feel to the questing.  EVE's PvE is fine so far as the combat gameplay goes, but something about the way they're written and the levels designed, is a bit "by numbers".  There's story there, but not much good writing.  I don't PvP much, so I can't speak to that side of things.  (CO's PvP is quite good fun though :) )

Thanks guys for the responses so far! It seems many share my position, so I hope you get some help from this thread.

Hmmm. Starcraft 2, nope. :) Don't like RTS. Strategy should be turnbased! Civ... and Europa Universalis 3!

I've always been a lonely wolf in mmo. Sure, I join guilds, but I don't spam the chat. I ask for help, and help others now and then. That's all. Heh, right now I'm playing EVE with my one man corp. So the social part ain't my biggest concern. Weird for a MMO player perhaps but.... =) Also, NONE of my RL friends are playing a mmo atm... :/

Sandbox, that is a feeling you get with both FE and Eve, and I like it!

PVP? Sure, I remember playing warhammer a few years ago. Loved the RvR.

I kill zombies in Left 4 Dead 1&2. Sometimes I get into a small locked "safe" room with a crazy dude named Cannibal who kills me, heals me, then keeps killing me but then again that's pretty much the best online multiplayer has to offer right now.

I'd be playing WAR cause it's decent but a cock-up during GOA-EA transfers required me to type in my "activation code"... and the only one I have is from the botched EU open beta (remember that crap?). Well even tho WAR is now free to purchase but with a sub, I still would have to explain my situation to CS (WTF you need my activation code when the game itself is FREE, and besides it's GOA who made mess of that situation way back) in order to get my account back. But it's too much bother so I'm killing zombies, unless I stumble into Cannibal's room that is.

That's pretty much it. I YEARN for a decent open world PvP game right now! (and no, gankers in the bushes (DFO EVE) don't need to apply, I'm talking about red-blooded, blood-for-the-blood-god RvR game!) GW2's Mists are my only hope!

To answer the questions asked by the OP:

    a) Been playing CoH since late July. See my recent "20 reasons" thread in the Paragon City Hall section of MMORPG's CoH forum for my reasons.

    b) Fallen Earth got a 6/10 from GameSpot and Eve is a glorified hurry up and wait Zynga/Facebook game so I can't recommend either.

    GW2 and Rift? pff....

  • KyleranKyleran Member LegendaryPosts: 44,069

I'm playing EVE, its the only thing like it out there, and not many of the new titles on the horizon are likely to get me to cancel my subs. (though I will take some breaks to try them out)

So that answers you're 2nd question as well.

Unfortunately, most of the highly anticipated games next year are going to go the way of FFXIV, lots of people hoping its the next big thing, most of them being disappointed that its not the game for them leaving it to its more devoted fans.
