What is Blade & Soul all about?

RajenRajen Member Posts: 689

I just checked out this game today on the site.

I haven't heard of this game until now, I watched the first half of the trailer video but i'm a bit confused about something.

What kind of MMO is this? Is it a fighting MMO? PvE focused? PvP focused?

Peace

It's a "Martial Arts MMORPG". Not much information has been released about the game, but we do know that the gameplay will be very unique.

You'll be able to interact with other players on an entirely new level. Trip them and make them fall, jump on top of them and pund their face in, it seems limitless. If you continued to watch the new video you'll see a Destroyer (warrior like class) completely toss someones dead corpse across the zone!

The games combat has a fighter type game feel to it. There seems to be active blocking in the game, and unlike most MMO's you can easily dodge an attack just by moving out of the abilities range. For example, someone tries to strike you with a vertical sword slash, simply dodge to the left or right and avoid complete damage! I've got a feeling that you'll have to actually aim your spells in the game as well, much like TERA Online.

It will most likely be a PvP oriented MMO.

it's basically about the beating the shit out of everything you come across, or so it seems, which is totally fine with me tbh =D

Sounds great from a 1 on 1 pvp perspective. As long as they focus more on complex dungeon mechanics as shown on the trailer balance the classes and reduce the grind to a minimum this should be a great game.

It would be exceptionally great if they designa massive open world that uses mechanics such as wall running and other zeldaesk mechaincs.

Martial arts focused around 1 v 1 fights and centered around your character as an individual makes you feel like a hero and unique from someone else in the game and all this stuff...

    Sounds good :)

You guys are dreaming, it's no coincidense that the game looks like Aion, it's the same company making blade & soul, you think there will be less grind here than Aion?..

Wrong. Team Bloodlust is the developer, NCSoft is the publisher.

I think they are both interesting, and if someone put a gun on my head I'd choose Blade & Soul.

Actually they have different concepts, but I'll most probably be playing TERA untill Blade & Soul comes out.

When it does, there is no return.

Well like in the video we watched, for those who want to smash ncsoft, which i basically already do, aion was a complete failure, but for blade and soul, which they say will be based on some new mechanics, visually what we saw, were some funny but great attack moves, and the martial arts style of air/wind running/jumping. and from what i see, their doing a fable style of quest and character development type of thing (every choice matters).

For those speaking about tera in here... Yep Tera will be a great game and I will be playing it.. yet a few things i saw promising is the races / classes, story, and the aiming, which will make it difficult for the occasional nukers, who like to button mash lol, and the graphics, which is seen in most great mmorpg's today.

Each game has their features, and demographics,  most people who enjoy this game will enjoy the type of game it is a martial arts type of game.

I see Blade & Soul game just as a greater 9dragons (free mmorpg by acclaim) with all features upgraded.  Although what I hope is that NCSOFT, lives upon their word and actually creates new mechanics, rather then just sourcing the game on the previous mmorpg, and just changing the story, character details etc...

We all look for certain features in a game, this game will be focusing on its Story and PVP, which will be awesome.. Although its not a game for people who are looking for Guild/Quest/Dungeon driven game, as from what we have seen so far. Most of the gameplay it overviewed was from single sided. So we dont know how the party play will be yet :P. but those who like to run solo, love martial arts, and love PVP, and great graphics this is a great game to look forward too. ETA: Q3 2011 ( Korean Release Date) USA Mostlikely Q1-Q2 2012.

Is anyone here truly aware that NCsoft doesn't even make games?

They are a 'publisher'... in other words, they throw money at development teams and own the rights to the content when finished. They are also well known to cut a game when it's not making their money back, but that's unrelated to this.

If a game sucks you can blame NCsoft only for not giving the appropriate timeframe to stop sucking during development.

BTW ~I find B&S more interesting than Tera atm.

does anyone know about the fight system? will it be arcade-styled or just another point mouse and press skill ?

It's all about lobbies and instances based on everything I've heard.  Certainly not lobbies like an FPS, but lobby towns like GW1.  This game appears to be a p2p version of Vindictus.  I'm not saying any of this is a bad thing, but it's what I've heard.  The combat does look great.

This site has a lot of useful info on the game:

    http://www.mybladeandsoul.com/component/content/article/73.html

Most importantly, for anyone wondering, it is NOT turn based, even though it kinda seems like it in the videos- they just took turns attacking each other so it would look better when they filmed it.

    :D

Anyone find it weird that B&S only has 60 developers but gw2 has like 150... That's a heck of lot of money in regards to yearly salaries to put into a b2p mmo especially when you have p2p that has less than half of that... I suppose NCsoft doesn't really care about Korea anymore since Aion was such a massive success and are probably funding gw2 with a slightly more than average p2p mmo budget to try and crack the western marker but it still seems weird...
