So I just did a format-C on my computer and it was running like a charm about 4 days ago, then all the bad patches for this game appeared. The 94.6% error, the patch freezing from today. So I listen to people and go to the websites and download the patches and it works great at the time, but all the sudden my computer is running at a snails pace, it takes 5 minutes to load anything. So I run a scan, nothing, I go into safe mode, run a scan again, a slew of things appear. I have viruses, and they're not the kind you can just zap and kill, they are the kind that you have to reformat your computer for. Oh, not to mention motionjoy came with a copious amount of viruses as well. The malware that is on my computer right now is unbelievable; it's hardly functional. I am extremely upset and I think I've almost given up on this game; I immensely enjoy it, but if it means I have to go through all this crap just to play it I don't think it's worth it.

I downloaded the entire client, and all applicable patches, through the Megaupload links on FFXIVCore and my system is clean.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck, not sure what to suggest.
I hope on the 22nd when i install from disk and patch i have no problems , if i do will take it back to gamestop and slap it on the counter and say give a none broken one please, if it does not work then return my money 2 coll ed please and ask SE for your money on a none working patcher.. but lets hope it will work then . this is not to be a darkfall or mortal online , where i must chase down or find away around a bug i paid now let me in..
Sorry to hear that your download experience for the beta, has deterred you from purchasing the release which comes on disks.

i agree with bel here, wait to buy until day or few hours after launch to see if people have problems with the disk if not the go get it or open it . you can return a unopen box, unless you order online then o well i see your problem i hate not having a boxed copy.
Gamestop doesn't support returns or refunds for opened software.
If you are on the fence, then just wait and see what launch players are saying when the time comes, rather than making a hasty purchase and then complaining about it afterwards when Gamestop rejects your return.
Motionjoy/ds3 tool thing is a pain and just not worth it.
You can get a cheap PS2 like controller or a wired Xbox 360 one without the hassle.
As for the patches I just you utorrent from the launcher created torrents... and haven't had a isse.
The official patcher isn't that bad if you open the appropriate ports. I've been using a 360 controller and the regular patcher and been doing fine.
I used motioninjoy and it was just too problematic for me.
I've been running motionjoy for a long time and I've also updated the game VIA uploaded files and I've never run into your problem, I'm sorry but I have to call BS on the motionjoy having viruses... as for the files you downloaded for FF XIV I can't say anything because maybe you DL'd tainted files.
Lesson here is be careful of what you download.

That is not really true, i have had bad keys before and returned them and got a new box. was told if this does not work i can get a refund or credit. but only if it is really not working. not because you do not like the game. patcher not working and i can not get in the early days is void of a coll ed. since it is why you buy it.
Bah! You got my "special" face before I aborted him. :P

You do have the option of virus checking everything when you download it.

OP should really stop downloading all that porn
kidding, all the megaupload patch links I got from FFXIVcore are good. I've downloaded every single one, because that's the only way I can get the patches.
I can't comment on motionjoy, as I uninstalled right after I saw ads.
I dunno google went to the red warning page of doom when I downloaded the things that said the file I was downloading was infected with malware. I tried to doing it like 5 times and people said just go ahead cause theirs was doing that too, so I did. And bammo, got a virus. Yeah I think the game itself is one of my favorite games, I got motionjoy up and running before i formatted my computer and my computer jogged down to nothing, so I format ced it, and now when i reinstalled it it started over.
Why you dont simply downlaod the patch with a torrent client? If you do it with the torrent file that the FFXVI beta client create you will not get virus since these files come SE. Why bother finding patch on website?
Agreed. Looking for patches off 3rd party websites is just asking to get hacked.
I got them from Megauploads and had no problems. 0 viruses, etc so I am sorry the OP had that happen. That being said to the posters above, not everybody is experienced with torrent clients, nor should they have to be if the patcher worked even remotely. People turned to 3rd party sources as recommended work arounds by the community.
Just about everyone here pointed to the site that recommended Megauploads as one of the main solutions. The poor guy was just taking advice and following it becase of the POS that is the launcher.
You might think that after a completely failed patch or two SE would have done something to remedy that. This close to release the patcher itself should not be a huge break and it is.
hmm ive gotten patches from a few games that had problems with the updater and never had problems.
The trick is to get patches from places YOU CAN TRUST , make sure you are not the first person from that sitre to try them out, read the feedback and get information on the patches from various sources (patch size etc ) then before using ANY patches u have to scan them yes . its like any thing on the net wether it be movies programs etc etc anything u Click on can cuase it to get infected . so are u sure its the patches , have u been surfing to any naughty sites or have u perhaps clicked where u should have not ?
im not saying its not the patches u dled but it might be from other stuff , if u have as MANY bugs as u say u do hmmm
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Yes sure SE should have fix the client updater but that not the point here, downlaoding patch from unffocial website is a risk plain and simple. For the torrent they is plenty of tutorial how to do it I even explain it 2 on other post here on this forum. So if someone want to use a third party sources to downlaod it and be safer torrent is the solution so doing some little reading here and there to know how it work is no big deal if you ask me.
Though I do not doubt that the OP's rig indeed got infected when ("when" as in "at the same time", not necessarily "because of") downloading those patches, both websites that he mentions are quite secure and 99% of the time virus-free. The torrent sources used to share the patches are quite clean too.
So, I'm no IT expert, but from what I know, there are much more chances that OP got infected more insiduously than via the patches themselves. OP, do you use a lot of 3rd party addons or programs when surfing/downloading? Is your computer behind a router or hardware firewall in some way? Is it on a shared network, and if so can you vouch for the safety of its elements (comps and users)? Is the Wi-Fi, should it exist, safe too?
Downloading stuff from various websites may open backdoors or exploits, during the process, for other third-party menaces to get through, just my point. Same thing would happen with every website/protocol that's not secured.
I really don't think SE is to blame in any way here, for theirs is well-secured. Besides, it's true the patcher is utter crap, but at least it's torrent-based and we can easily use a better client. Which is great imo, Torrent protocols are quite secure and reliable.
I'd have to say that OP has really brought this on themselves by not using the SE downloader. My advice when dealing with malware is to try a good AV product, but if that doesn't sort it out clean install of OS will. In future only get games through the official vendor website and be vey very careful of third-party stuff. As for download speed, well retail box would get you most of the client for launch, then just whatever launch day patches are present. Might want to tweak your network and consider opening some ports on router or upgrade the speed of your internet connect with your ISP.
By your comment I can tell you have not used the SE downloader for FF XIV. It is broken, borked, hangs, hosed, F*d up, don't work as it should, if at all. You MUST use a work around in order to get the client installed. Using a torrent client and getting the original files is probably best but other solutions have been suggested by those in the know.
The OP used one of the solutions listed at a semi-offiicial fan site that worked for most people problems free.
I agree with most that the viruses are likely coinsidental or all of us who pulled a file from Mega Downloads would be suffering the same fate.
I would most likely catch it if a file had a virus as I have-PCcillin, Malware bites, Windows Defender, Zone alarm, and Spybot search and destroy running whenever I venture to the internet. OP, I suggest you do the same or similar. At the very least get Malware Bites anti malware installed.
