Anyone have 5970?

I have had trouble with my 5970 in starcaft 2 and now this. I have lines and flashes anyone have there 5970 running good?

What driver setup should I use other tips.

I am thinking about buying a cheap video card and trying it out.  Not sure if my problem  is the duel  communication or what.

Any advice would be nice.

I have a new computer i7 12g ram ect  I have just not seen any game I have tried look great yet.

I just got the Asus G73 with the 5870 and every game I have put on it had runs awesome. I'm thinking that you may have a bad card or something else in the rig is jacked up.

I have XFX 5970 BE and have had no issues at all with it in this game or any other.  Are you sure it isn't defective?   Can you warranty it?   There have been reports of people getting cards in which the heatsinks and pads were not touching the GPU and circuits properly thus causing overheating and artifacts.

    Are you overclocking it?

Never overlock a 5970 on air cooling...the VRM circuits can not handle the heat which can get over 120 degrees!

For those using a 5970 or 2 Radeon cards able to confirm that Crossfire is/is not working in FFXIV full screen using programs such as MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision?

Skully202, you may be having problems with your Radeon 5970 in FFXIV because Crossfire might not be supported and thus essentially you are running a 5850 to render the game. I'm not in the open beta so I'm unable to test my 4890s. You can however, run MSI afterburner to display your GPU(s) activities during the game. If for example you see that one GPU is running at 100% and the other PGU is running at 0% then you can conclude that your 5970 is only using half of its potential.

Are your XFX 5770s running Crossfire in FFXIV or did you disable them?

Both cores on my 5970 are working in the game.   No issues with FPS here.

    @vkareoke

i just checked using msi afterburner and had  spikes on both gpu1 and gpu 2 when i had the client runin, i couldnt get in game tho as it seem to be down (same lobby error as when they doing maintenance, i gather we will have another patch to dl ) to test it in game but if client is using both gpu before getting into servers  i dont see why it would stop after  loggin in .

btw i was in fs , and yes runnin em crossfire

On my 5970 in game monitoring with MSI afterburner shows that both cores are being used and jump around 70% to 100% usgae on each and sit at roughly 75 degree's each with fans at 30%

5970 here. the game is pushing both of the cores to aroun 70-80% load. Im using catalyst 10.8 with the newest CFX profile

Im playing at 1920@1200 and im getting really bad fps with everything on max (except aa).

try tpo use v-sync to see if your problem will be fixed

No issues on 5970 here - but over the years I have been through several card failures. Lines or texture distortion were always a sign of death throes.

    - Do you ever see lines at boot or just in game?

    - Any crash or BSOD? If so what do Windows Event Logs say about it?

    - Are there any mainboard updates you need? Bios, chipset drivers... Careful with BIOS update as always, though easier these days than before.

    - Does mainboard have onboard video? Is it disabled?

    - Did you build system? If so did you tweak any AGP or volt setting out of default? Any overclocking?
